iTunes Review
Sleigh Bells' debut Treats proves that Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss can deliver in the studio as well as on the stage, especially where volume is concerned. “Tell ‘Em” opens sounding just as gigantic as their sternum-rattling live act (nobody since Jimmy Page has made a Danelectro guitar rock this hard). Demonically distorted beats are blown up to Hindenburg-sized proportions while twin guitarmonies that recall Scott Gorham-era Thin Lizzy as Krauss croons like a honey-voiced chanteuse from shoegazing’s early-‘90s heyday. Much of Sleigh Bells’ chemistry is built on contrast. “Riot Rhythm” rubs inflated drumline beats against blistering indie-rock guitar leads and Krauss’ stuttered phrasing simultaneously contributes both rhythm and melody. On “Infinity Guitars” the juxtaposition of “You Really Got Me”-era Kinks guitar with raw hip-hop beats is pure genius. “Rill Rill” samples Funkadelic’s “Can You Get To That” under thunderous beats while Krauss’ inflections sound inspired by M.I.A. (who actually signed Sleigh Bells to her label).
Customer Reviews
Gimme that BASSSS!!
If you like phat dance/rock out beats, then this is definately for you. Very M.I.A. like, mixing hip-hop and rock, but still have their own orginal sound. One of the best new "up and coming" duos out there.
treats
when did loads of distortion become a tool for hiding lack of talent....my ears hurt.....
