Customer Reviews

Who cares about the price in an orbital garage ?

True that this album should'nt be sold 9.99, even if you consider the duration of it, which is about the equivalent of 10 average 4 minutes songs... But the price should not influence the appreciation of this music, which maybe sounds like if it had been made in a garage, but then it was in an orbital garage. Another great variation of the Montreal Sound.

great addition

Hard to say if some of the other reviews got lost here on the way to the Limp Bizkit section, but this early Besnard Lakes production is a great addition to the collection. Shows off their big sound and vision in an instrumental package. First-time buyers might start with BL's latest, The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse.

Amazing Look at the Embryo of The Besnard Lakes

As suggested by previous comments, this album is not an ideal introduction to The Besnard Lakes.
Their other two albums "...Are the Roaring Night" and "...Are The Dark Horse" are much more developed in terms of traditional song structure and more apt for new listeners to get into their sound.
Volume I shows a slow brewing collections of songs that merge together perfectly.
An amazing glimpse of what The Besnard Lakes becomes.
I'll admit I was hesitant on purchasing this album at first (listening to the samples numerous times over weeks). When I finally purchased it, I was truly impressed at how this album grows with each listen.
Not a single bad track on this album.
It is ideal to listen to start to finish to get a better appreciation of The Besnard Lakes.

If you like them, check out their side project "The Soft Province".

Biography

Formed: 2001 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

The Besnard Lakes raise immediate comparisons to the Arcade Fire, but those are primarily due to accidents of geography and band chemistry: like the Arcade Fire, the Besnard Lakes are from Montreal and led by a married couple. That's largely where the similarities end, because if this Quebecois collective resembles any of its Canadian counterparts, it would be as an unexpectedly effective combination of the Dears' psychedelic pop hooks and the languid space rock ambience of early Broken Social Scene....
