THE TOWN PANTS' Weight Of Words takes Celtic Folk to new level!
This album shows an incredible amount of depth and creativity. The Town Pants' use of diverse instrumentation, and strong arrangements help create a musical journey that can only be enhanced paired with a tall pint of Guinness... not that you need alcohol to enjoy this CD. I was truly delighted by the lyrics, vocals, harmonies, and instrumental prowess that elevated this "Folk CD" to a permanent spot in my player. The only downside is I now unfortunately have to get "Piston Baroque" and "Liverdance" to complete my set!

Nie sądziłem, że kanadyjska kapela The Town Pants, to taki fajny zespół. Grają folk-rocka w stylu zbliżonym do starych nagrań Great Big Sea i Spirit of The West z lekkim tchnieniem The Pogues. Z resztą jednym z gości na płycie jest Hugh McMillan właśnie ze Spirit of the West. Nie znaczy to bynajmniej, że The Town Pants są kapelą wtórną. Nic z tych rzeczy. Po prostu muzycy dobrze wiedzą co wydarzyło się w celtyckim rocku przez ostatnie dwie dekady i w ich własnych piosenkach słychać echa najlepszych kapel w branży. Sporo tu smaczków, częściowo już wcześniej użytych, jak np. wykorzystanie didjiridoo ("Diggin' the Grave"), czy mieszanie Irlandzkich kawałków z lekkimi wpływami country ("Boys of the Old Brigade"), a nawet muzyki meksykańskiej ("Ships Made of Wood"). The Town Pants nie odkrywają może Ameryki, ale są w tym co robią na tyle dobrzy, by płyty "Weight of Words" słuchało się z dużą przyjemnością. Tematy tradycyjne mieszają się tu ze współczesnymi, tworząc miła, folk-rockową mieszanką. Sporym atutem zespołu są dobre wokale, Kanadyjczycy sporo i ładnie śpiewają. --Taclem (Folkowa)
Best effort of the bbunch
Definitely the strongest outing by the Town Pants, though closely followed by the latest offering, Shore Leave. Great harmonies, and added instrumentation bring more depth to a band that previously kept things extra simple and clean. Lots of high-energy, foot-tapping tunes here, though picturing Dave in character singing Rum Runner is a bit odd for those who have seen the band live.
