okay c.d

This c.d is perfect for tweens and has a lot of catchy tunes but could have a little more variety. You should probably just buy one or two of these songs or risk feeling like your hearing the same song over and over again with different music.

Okay, but needs more diversity...

I'll admit I bought the album mostly for Selena, I've been a fan of her acting ability and I was curious to see how her singing voice would pan out. While Magic and Disappear were quite good, with multiple listens each, the other songs she sang felt overproduced, almost like they had to make them fit within her vocal range. The rest of the tracks on the album were at least listenable, with two notable exceptions. First is "Magic" by Meaghan Martin. I can't tell if she's a competent singer or not because her the rendition of this song just felt flat and uninteresting, if she was trying to showcase her voice I don't think this was a good choice of song for her. I would strongly recommend people buy the superior, original, Olivia Newton John version from the Xanadu soundtrack and be done with it. Don't get me wrong Meaghan's version isn't bad enough to skip when it comes up on a random playlist, but it certainly wouldn't be my first choice to listen to directly. In order for a remake of a song to work, it needs to at least try to be *better* than the original source material. Speaking of skipable songs and the need to make a better remake, who told Mitchel Musso he can sing? His take on "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" is hands down the *worst* rendition of The Police classic I have ever heard, I quickly unchecked that song as I wanted to keep it from updating on my iPod. One should never willingly make a good song worse and words alone are simply incapable of expressing how badly Musso has mangled such a fun, classic, tune; Disney should feel at least some level of shame for even giving him that song to cover. The best cover on the album? I would have to say Drew Seeley and his rendition of America's classic "You Can Do Magic". By successfully changing it from a smooth, mellow, ballad to a fun and catchy dance tune shows his unique singing ability; I would have been much happier if they'd given Drew two songs on the album, perhaps with a stab at "Every Little Thing..." While nothing to write home about, the album is okay and will probably make your tween happy to get it. My only other major gripe, besides the two lackluster covers, is that the album was short as it only weighs in at 37 minutes. Disney should have taken the opportunity to fill out the disk by including the original source material, giving the kids a chance to hear the originals as well.

okay

This soundtrack may be good for tweens but I am kind of dissapointed with the whole soundtrack. I am a fan of Selena I mean she acts really well that's why I love her but this kind of music just dosen't speak to me.
