This is just BEAUTIFUL.

the boy's got SOUL

The first time I heard Sam play live back in April 09, I literally got goosebumps when he played. Now, with the release of his second EP Zuni, I'm certain that others will experience the same profound feeling of connection to the songs that I once did (and still do!). There is more strength, soul and reflection in Bradley's songs than ever before, but old fans can expect the same great quality, depth and humour we have all grown to love and expect from all music that Sam shares with his listeners.

Genuinely Pleasing to the Ear

I am by no means the type of person who hands out praise 'willy-nilly', in most cases one can expect a steady barrage of criticism (all constructive I can assure you) to explode from me with the force of a 1000 suns. HOWEVER, this is not how I reacted when presented with this delightful yet powerful presentation of a medium that has been brutally raped since Handel's gimmicky "Messiah".

Irrespective of the imprecations (which do serve a purpose; to show the vehement anger and pain of the author), "Lights" could easily be song of the year for anything from an unnecessarily over-the-top awards ceremonies to the quiet boy listening to his headphones in the rain while waiting for the bus to take him home after another tortuous day of schoolyard bullying or the mother of six who just lost her husband in a tragic fence collapse.

"Scared" is the most heart warming of the all the glorious tracks. It starts off so simply and builds to a climax the likes of which one can only find in the bedroom. The strong but reserved piano harkens to a time when it was king but weeps for today it is but the weekend chef and the string arrangement is as beautiful as the winner of a garden show (not the local one).

The biblically grand third track "Details" is another that begins modestly but grows and grows until it dwarfs us all and we beg for it to have mercy on the pathetic little pustules we are.

"Wide Open" is a curious song. It's hypnotic... ... ... ... I simply adore the bass which is completely unrelenting and the drums which are simple but strong, almost tribal. It's a mix of both civilization and the wild, the future and the past, style and functionality.

My favourite song on this greatest hits of my new favourite songs is easily "No One and Me". I have never in my whole life as a patron of music been so satisfied by a song. More often than not I'm left either unfulfilled or bored when it's over but not in this case. The lyrics, the melody, the changes, the bass, the drums, the guitars, the piano, and the vocals are all flawless. This is perfect. To honour it I wrote a little poem. 'I want it when I wake, I want it when I bake/ I want it in the car, I want it in the bar/ I want it here and there, I want it everywhere/ I want "No One and Me" for you, It's what God is listening to'.

The other three are also good but since they have been previously released I will not go into it here. I will say that they have been greatly improved with remastering.

So, in conclusion, Zuni is the best release of the year. The most discerning tastes can't live without it, therefore, if you don't give this a try you are a fool and the universe will rectify your mistake at the cost of great anguish.
