Description
Artemis is a digital directors viewfinder for the iPhone. Designed with both cinematographers and directors in mind, Artemis works in much the same way as a traditional directors viewfinder, though much more accurately.
Select a camera format, aspect ratio and lens type, and use Artemis to simulate the lens views you can expect when you come to shoot. Use the zoom function to view a full frame representation of your selected lens. Line up your shot and save the image, complete with focal length, GPS data and shot information. Perfect to send to the storyboard artist or for use in iPhone apps like the truly fabulous Hitchcock.
For lenses wider than the iPhone field of view Artemis adds screen space. While this is not an ideal solution, it provides some idea of how wide lenses can be used, especially on the wider aspect ratios.
Artemis has been field tested and tweaked with every camera in our database to make sure that the field of view is correct. With digital film cameras we found that relying on the information from camera manufacturers was not always wise.
Field of view is measured from the "nodal point", roughly mid way down the length of the lens, in keeping with the method used by lens manufacturers. Not all ground glass markings are consistent between cameras. Variation in field of view between camera systems exist, especially in Super 35mm where standard and "big" image areas are sometimes loosely defined.

Pricey but...
Useful app for quick easy visualization. Works great with Hitchcock. Could go for a few sutble interface improvements. Perhaps the ability to use the tap focus feature of the 3G S camera. Wish the on board camera was a higher res for the longer lense simulation, but that's nit their fault. Still, I don't think many will go for the $30 price tag.
