Broken Social Scene & Friends

Broken Social Scene began with Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, both veterans of the Toronto music scene. An ambitious project between friends soon enough escalated into a ten-person outfit that knocked college radio for a loop with the release of "You Forgot It In People." One part rock 'n' roll circus, another part unstoppable creative energy, Broken Social Scene is a homegrown indie-rock phenomenon.

Broken Social Scene is a collective of likeminded individuals sharing their seemingly boundless ideas and talent. Many of the group's collaborators are acclaimed artists in their own right: Leslie Feist, Emily Haines (Metric), Jason Collett, Amy Millan (Stars), and Murray Lightburn (the Dears) all have contributed mightily to the BSS canvas. Broken Social Scene can blast through a pop song and just as quickly settle into a hypnotic ambient groove. The family behind this sonic spectrum has also contributed to other notable bands, including Valley of the Giants and K.C. Accidental.

Broken Social Scene is a Canadian indie-rock phenomenon both in size and scope of material, encompassing various sub-groups and the Arts and Crafts record label. From its core of six members, the group has been known to grow to as many as ten people in one sitting. Embodying an extended family of musicians stretching across three Canadian cities and two continents, Broken Social Scene has created a network of likeminded artists who create some of the most innovative sounds in alternative music.
