Setting up a model that would be followed by Daughtry south of the border, Hedley came into being following the success of its frontman on Idol. Singer Jacob Hoggard won an audition wager of $151 from his mates by appearing on the Canadian version of the global talent show, and wound up finishing third, pulling in the necessary exposure to launch his Vancouver band into the pop-punk stratosphere. The first single from their self-titled 2005 debut, "On My Own," proved a fine statement of intent and paved the way for another highlight, "Streetfight" (2007), which dealt with the same subject matter (celebrity in the 21st century) that would crop up again on "Cha-Ching" — a standout from third album The Show Must Go On. The band's signature blend of power, melody and cheeky wordplay continued through 2009 single "Don't Talk to Strangers," which unravels the mind of a sexually voracious middle-aged woman.
