VideoTravers: Josh Brolin Is Amazing in 'Men in Black 3' | Peter Travers went into Men in Black 3 convinced that it would suck, but as it turns out, it's pretty good. Most of the fun comes from Josh Brolin's performance as the young version of Tommy Lee Jones' character. Brolin channels Jones' laconic vibe brilliantly, and he has an easy rapport with Will Smith that is more entertaining than any of the movie's special effects. "I'm having more fun than I've ever had on a job," Van Der Beek says of Apt. 23, on which he plays a skewed version of himself that stars in freaky sexy tapes, goes on Dancing with the Stars and has his own line of absurdly tight blue jeans. The Beek from the Creek looked back on his career, and gamely entertained all of Travers' commands to display particular emotions, resulting in this series of bra | 5/18/12 | Free | View In iTunes
VideoPeter Travers: 'The Dictator' Is Inconsistent, But Funny | Peter Travers says that Sacha Baron Cohen's latest movie The Dictator is not consistently funny, but when it's good, it's absolutely hilarious. One joke, in which Cohen's ruthless despot extols the virtues of dictatorship in way that closely mirrors the One Percent versus the Ninenty-Nine Percent rhetoric of the Occupy movement, delivers the kind of laughs "that stick in your throat." It may not be as good as Borat, but the inspired moments are worth it. | 5 | VideoPeter Travers: 'Dark Shadows' Is Luscious, Yet Boring | Peter Travers says that while Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are one of the best teams in movies, their remake of the Sixties vampire soap Dark Shadows is only entertaining for about 40 minutes. Burton delivers luscious visuals and Depp is typically freaky and funny, but ultimately, the plot spins its wheels for well over an hour after the novelty wears off. Dark Shadows marks Burton and Depp's eighth movie together (the full list is: Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, Alice and Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride and Dark Shadows), a | 5/10/12 | Free | View In iTunes
VideoPeter Travers: 'The Avengers' Has It All | Peter Travers says that Joss Whedon's The Avengers "has it all." Not only does it bring together superheroes from other Marvel Comics movies like Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America and Thor, but it is a genuinely great and fun movie made by a guy who understands the characters and how to craft a good story. Everyone in the cast gets their moment to shine, but Mark Ruffalo stands out as the best cinematic Hulk yet, and Tom Hiddleston makes being a villain really attractive as the demigod Loki. Black also picked one of his earlier movies to toss in the Scum Bucket, and explained why he proclaimed "Rock is Dead" on Tenacious D's new record. | 8 | VideoApril Scum Showers: Peter Travers on the Month's Worst Movies | April is over, so it's time for Peter Travers to toss the worst movies of the month into the Scum Bucket, the disgusting repository for Hollywood's foulest junk. There were a few good movies in April, like the Jack Black vehicle Bernie and Joss Whedon's hilarious horror movie The Cabin in the Woods, but the month's films were mostly awful. In this segment, Travers tosses The Raven, Safe, The Five-Year Engagement, Lockout, Detention, Think Like A Man, The Lady, Darling Companion, The Three Stooges and The Lucky One in the bucket. Do you agree with these picks? Did Travers leav | 4/25/12 | Free | View In iTunes
Video'The Lucky One' Another awful Nicholas Sparks movie | Peter Travers is fed up with Nicholas Sparks, the author behind sappy tearjerkers like The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, Nights in Rodanthe, Dear John and the new movie, The Lucky One. Travers admits that he cried while watching the film, but it's because he weeps for the future of movies if Hollywood continues to make these awful pictures based on Sparks' dopey romance novels. If you're seeing The Lucky One, Travers wants to know why. Let him know in the comments below, on Twitter or via e-mail. | 4/18/12 | Free | View In iTunes
Video'The Cabin in the Woods' A genuinely scary horror movie | Peter Travers says that The Cabin in the Woods, a new film co-written by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, is a horror movie that is genuinely scary and funny. He can't share many details without spoiling its twists and turns, but rest assured that it's a "real barnburner of a horror movie" and "you won't know what hit you." Travers says this is the first really scary movie to hit theaters in a while. Do you agree? If not, what scared you in the last year? Let Travers know in the comments below, on Twitter or via e-mail. | 11 | Video'Titanic 3D' and 'American Reunion' Nineties nostaglia weekend at the movies | The late Nineties will return to movie theaters in a big way this weekend with a surprisingly good 3D version of James Cameron's mega-hit Titanic, which Peter Travers says emphasizes the horrific elements of the movie over its epic romance. Travers is also pleasantly surprised by American Reunion, the latest in the American Pie franchise. The previous sequels may have sucked, but this one reconnects with the sweet, yet raunchy spirit of the 1999 original. Are you taking a trip back to the Nineties this weekend? This time around, Travers trashes Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie, A Thousand Words, Seeking Justice, The Intruders, Mirror Mirror, Wrath of the Titans and Dr. Suess' The Lorax, which he says is the worst movie of the month. | 3/29/12 | Free | View In iTunes
Video'The Hunger Games' Hollywood doesn't screw up hit book | Peter Travers is happy to say that Hollywood did not screw up The Hunger Games, the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' hit novel about a dystopian future in which teens compete in brutal televised matches where everyone but the victor gets sent home in body bags. The true hero of the movie is Jennifer Lawrence, who turns in a spectacular performance as teen fighter Katniss Everdeen. The violence is a bit mild, but appropriately so – it is, after all, meant for a young audience. | 15 | Video'21 Jump Street' TV remake is surprisingly hilarious | Peter Travers assumed that 21 Jump Street would be an egregious piece of crap based on its trailer, but as it turns out, this update of the old Eighties TV show starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum turns out to be silly and fun. Tatum, who is typically pretty dull on screen is hilarious in this, and Johnny Depp is sharp in a cameo in which he reprises the character that made him a star. | 16 | Video'John Carter' Bad buzz, okay movie | John Carter, the new sci-fi adventure film starring Taylor Kitsch, may have terrible internet buzz, but it's actually a mildly entertaining take on the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic, says Peter Travers. Kitsch looks convincingly wounded and soulful as a man who lost everything in the Civil War before getting zapped to Mars, and the action sequences are genuinely exciting. It's a bit confusing and the 3D isn't so hot, but it's a lot better than most of the junk in theaters right now. That said, there's plenty to look forward to. Peter Travers is especially psyched for The Hunger Games, but he's also curious about Wrath of the Titans, Mirror Mirror, American Reunion, The Cabin in the Woods, The Three Stooges, Bullet to the Head and The Lucky One. | 20 | VideoIndie Travers Vs. Hollywood Travers Duke it out over the Oscars | Hollywood Peter Travers and Indie Peter Travers have very different ideas about who should walk away with Oscars at this year's Academy Awards. The very earnest Hollywood Travers is all about The Artist, Viola Davis and Christopher Plummer, while the bratty, relentlessly cynical Indie Travers is still very bitter about Drive getting snubbed by the Academy. | 2/16/12 | Free | View In iTunes
Video'Rampart' Woody Harrelson shines as crooked cop | Peter Travers has spent a lot of time bashing movies recently, but this week he's got nothing but love for Chronicle, a movie about super-powered teens that is actually fresh, new and scary, and Rampart, an excellent movie in which Woody Harrelson plays a totally despicable cop with a touch of humanity. Travers trashes Underworld: Awakening, Contraband, A Joyful Noise, One for the Money, Red Tails, Man on a Ledge, The Devil Inside and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, a deeply horrible film that is somehow up for Best Picture at the Oscars. | 23 | Video'The Grey' Liam Neeson faces off against wolves | The Grey, a new movie in which Liam Neeson faces off against ravenous wolves, may not be deathless art, but it's an exciting tale of man vs. nature. Neeson really chews on his part, too, which adds to the thrill of a scary movie that will likely convince you to never head out into the wilderness. | 24 | VideoDamn You, Oscars 2012! Peter Travers is outraged | Peter Travers has no shortage of material for this special Oscars edition of Damn You, Hollywood! Though the Academy has expanded the Best Picture category from five to as many as ten films (they chose nine), did the crowd-pleasing Bridesmaids make the cut? Nooo! How about Drive, which is Travers' pick for the year's best film, or The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo? Nope. Suddenly the Academy has cold feet about anything that hints at controversy, he fumes. And they wouldn't know good acting if it hit them in the face. Soderbergh's film is gleefully violent, and Carano kicks the crap out of male co-stars Michael Fassbender, Ewan MacGregor and Channing Tatum. | 26 | Video'The Devil Inside' Awful horror flick goes in Scum Bucket | Peter Travers typically waits until the end of the month to toss the worst movies into the Scum Bucket, the disgusting repository for Hollywood's foulest junk, but this January is so awful that he already has two films that need to be thrown in immediately. First up is Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah in the excruciatingly dull gospel comedy Joyful Noise. Then there's The Devil Inside, a horror movie so terrible it may end up being the worst picture of 2012. | 1/12/12 | Free | View In iTunes

Video'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' 4th movie is the best of the series | Fresh installments of two familiar franchises hit movie theaters this weekend - Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Guy Ritchie thoroughly botched the latest Holmes by ditching the witty banter of the first movie in favor of generic action that doesn't play to the strengths of its funny, charming stars Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. Mission: Impossible, however, is fantastic. Tom Cruise has grown into his role as a super spy, and the result is the best film in the series. | 30 | VideoHoliday Movie Spectacular Six great new movies | Peter Travers gets a lot of criticism from readers who say he's just knocking movies left and right, but this week he's celebrating all the great films arriving in theaters in time for the holidays. In this week's At the Movies, Travers raves about War Horse, The Adventures of Tintin, The Iron Lady, Albert Nobbs, Young Adult and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and gives special shout-outs to Andy Serkis, Hugo and Drive, his favorite movie of 2011. | 12/8/11 | Free | View In iTunes
Video'New Year's Eve' Star-packed rom-com is total trash | New Year's Eve, like Valentine's Day before it, is a fluffy, shamelessly bad movie overstuffed with big stars out for an easy payday. It's bad enough to see Oscar winners Robert De Niro, Halle Berry and Hilary Swank sully their reputations in this garbage, but somehow it's worse that Zac Efron is actually pretty good in it. "To me, any movie in which Zac Efron gives the best performance is its own worst enemy," says Travers. Jack and Jill, Son of No One, Immortals, London Boulevard, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, Happy Feet Two, Tower Heist and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 all get tossed in the bucket, making for a dire Scumvember. | 33 | VideoOff the Cuff: Jason Segel 'I cried when I met Kermit' | How I Met Your Mother and Forgetting Sarah Marshall star Jason Segel stopped by Peter Travers' office at Rolling Stone recently to chat about his latest movie, The Muppets. "They were my first exposure to comedy," Segels says of the Muppets. "They taught my what kind of comedian I wanted to be. They never get laughs by making fun of anybody, but there's a sense of controlled chaos, that they could bubble over at any minute, but never at anyone's expense." Segel's passion for the Muppets has led to a few embarrassing moments, including the time when he started crying upon meeting Kermit the Frog for the first time. "It sounds very sweet, but it was really strange, like 'Is this guy really gonna be capable of being in charge, or is he gonna cry constantly?'" | 34 | Video'Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' The worst 'Twilight' movie yet | The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 is the worst Twilight movie yet, says Peter Travers. The picture is actually hurt by having a good director – Gods and Monsters and Dream Girls filmmaker Bill Condon – who focuses the camera on the faces of the actors, who are all far too blank and seem helpless in close ups. Taylor Lautner is the worst of the bunch, often looking less like a sexy werewolf and more "like a petulant five-year-old." | 35 | Video'Jack and Jill' Adam Sandler is a drag in drag role | Both of this week's big movies feature a major male actor in drag, but only one of them is worth seeing. Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar is the better of the two, but Leonardo DiCaprio ends up fighting his own prosthetics and makeup to deliver a great performance as the eccentric director of the FBI. The other drag movie is Jack and Jill, a stupefyingly awful and unfunny comedy starring Adam Sandler as a man and his twin sister. Sandler's performance is infuriating lazy and overly dependent on fart jokes, and the movie overall is utterly despicable. This Week's Reviews:J. Olsen, the younger sister of Mary Kate and Ashley, is utterly captivating in this film – it's almost impossible to take your eyes off her when she's on screen. He also loves Felicity Jones' performance in Like Crazy, about a woman who struggles with a long distance relationship. Footloose, a new version of the 1984 hit starring Kevin Bacon, is unsexy and dull, and the stars lack chemistry entirely. The Thing, a prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 movie, starts off well but tedium sets in after 15 minutes and it's all downhill from there. Peter Travers genuinely doesn't get the trend of remaking all of these old movies, so his question for you is this: What Eighties movie would you really want to see remade? But as fantastic as Clooney is here, his co-star Ryan Gosling is arguably even better, and his performance makes a good case for him becoming the next George Clooney. But for now, movie theaters are a dumping ground for the worst Hollywood has to offer. | 48 | Video'Our Idiot Brother' Travers on the Curse of Paul Rudd | Peter Travers is concerned about the Curse of Paul Rudd. Few actors out there are as likable or as talented as Rudd, and yet the guy is stuck being the best thing in a series of otherwise lousy movies. Our Idiot Brother, his latest picture as a lead actor alongside Zooey Deschanel, Elizabeth Banks and Emily Mortimer, isn't as bad as some other flicks he's been in recently, but it will leaving you wondering why he can't find better material. | 49 | VideoDamn You, Hollywood Peter Travers rails against bad movies | Peter Travers is furious at Hollywood once again. In this rant, he rails against studios, who are all confused as to why their big movies this past weekend flopped – Spy Kids in 4D, Conan the Barbarian and One Day – even though they all sucked horribly. "The reason that you're not making any money on bad movies is because they suck!," Travers shouts. | 50 | Video'Fright Night' 3D movie is tacky and hilarious | Peter Travers loves Colin Farrell in Fright Night, a remake of a 1985 horror movie that rises above the glut of terrible horror movies hitting theaters in the dog days of summer. Farrell plays a vampire named Jerry in a way that is both hilarious and genuinely scary, and the tacky, over-the-top 3D is a welcome treat in a time when filmmakers try to be "subtle" in their use of the technology. It's not a great movie by any stretch, but it's definitely fun. | 8/17/11 | Free | View In iTunes
Video'Glee: The 3D Concert Movie' Live show is painfully awful | Peter Travers is admittedly not a member of the Church of Glee, though he does like the hit Fox show. Even still, he absolutely hated Glee: The 3D Concert Movie, the cinematic version of the cast's summer arena tour. The movie is excruciating mainly because its stars, who all play misfits on the hit show, are off-putting as they strut around the stage like visiting royalty. Even worse, the backstage interviews and footage of fans is overly triumphant, to the point of turning show creator Ryan Murphy into a sort of messianic figure. It's just gross. | 52 | Video'Captain America: The First Avenger' Great hero, mediocre action | Peter Travers is full of faint praise for Captain America: The First Avenger, a super hero movie that isn't at all the disaster he was expecting. Though Chris Evans gives the title character a surprising depth, the film stumbles in its second half, where the plot gets a bit boring and the action is merely "standard issue." Despite its flaws, it's a reasonably good time at the movies, though you should avoid seeing it in 3D, as those effects were added afterward and look terrible. | 53 | Video'Harry Potter' 'Deathly Hallows 2' is one of the best | Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the final movie in the series, is about to hit theaters this weekend. Since the Potter series is now mainly for the franchise's legion of superfans, Peter Travers decided to sit down for a chat with Rolling Stone's resident Harry Potter fanatic, Assistant Editor Erica Futterman. Though Travers wasn't crazy about the first half of Deathly Hallows last year, he was totally satisfied with this installment, to the point of choking up at certain moments. Though Futterman is sad that the movie series has come to an end, she is certain that Potter will stick around in pop culture for years to come. "The Harry Potter generation is the generation that grew up with him for the past ten years," she says. "It's going to be hard to wipe that out." | 55 | Video'Harry Potter' Matthew Lewis on the 'Potter' directors | Matthew Lewis, the actor who plays the bumbling Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films, stopped by the Rolling Stone office to reminisce about his experience will all of the directors who have worked on the series over the years. Lewis says that Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two Potter movies, was "dealt the shortest straw," because he had to work with all the actors when they were very young and inexperienced, and that Alfonso Cuarón and Mike Newell pushed the cast toward becoming more professional in their respective installments. Lewis says he can't pick a favorite, but he seems rather partial to Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows parts 1 and 2 director David Yates, who he says is "the loveliest human being to ever exist, like a puppy crossed with a rainbow." | 56 | Video'Horrible Bosses' Great cast, boring script | Peter Travers is very disappointed by Horrible Bosses, the new comedy starring Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia scene-stealer Charlie Day. The cast - which also includes Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Aniston - is terrific, but the script isn't up to their level. "They're all primed, they're ready to rock, and nothing happens because the script is afraid of having an edge" says Travers. "You just pray for something to happen to make you excited." Travers rages against 'Transformers 3' | Peter Travers is furious that Transformers: Dark of the Moon has broken the record for the biggest 4th of July weekend gross of all time despite being the worst movie of the year so far. In this "Damn you, Hollywood!" rant, Travers tears into director Michael Bay, but heaps the most scorn on the people who paid to see the third picture in the Transformers franchise. | 58 | VideoThe Worst Movies of 2011 Vote for most the terrible film so far | Peter Travers is celebrating the halfway point of 2011 by giving out awards to year's worst movies. Why the worst movies? Sadly, this has been such a dismal year for cinema that the bad stands out stronger than the good. Travers presents awards to stars such as Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage, January Jones and Matt Damon, but is leaving the biggest prize up to you. | 59 | Video'Cars 2' Sequel is as good as underrated original | Peter Travers doesn't care if you think the Cars movies are the runts of the Pixar litter – he loves Cars 2, which he says is just as dazzling and action-packed as its predecessor. Also, Travers is disappointed by the Cameron Diaz comedy Bad Teacher, an overly predictable movie that doesn't go far enough with its premise. It's fun to watch Diaz behave badly, but you're much better off going to see Cars 2. "It is awful, it is bad, it is comic book movie hell," says Travers. "Michael Bay in a couple weeks is going to have to strain himself hard to make Transformers 3 bad enough that it can beat the Green Lantern." Though most everything about the movie is a mess, Travers does approve of Peter Sarsgaard, who turns in the picture's only good performance as the mutated villain Hector Hammond. | 6/15/11 | Free | View In iTunes
Video'Super 8' JJ Abrams' new movie is scary and sweet | Peter Travers says that while you shouldn't know too many plot details going into J.J. Abrams' scary new movie Super 8, you should know that it's a movie with a lot of sweetness and heart. The story, which follows the adventures of a group of kids making a homemade zombie movie in the Seventies, is a joyful celebration of innocence and imagination. | 6/7/11 | Free | View In iTunes
Video'X-Men: First Class' Mutant heroes get some Sixties swagger | Peter Travers was almost certain that X-Men: First Class would suck as much as X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but as it turns out, it's actually one of the better movies of the summer so far. The film, which follows the early adventures of Professor X and Magneto in the Sixties, is a bit too overstuffed with mutant characters, but James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are both excellent and the picture has a charming Bond-like swagger. | 6/1/11 | Free | View In iTunes

VideoAt The Movies With Peter Travers: 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' | It's 4th of July weekend, the centerpiece of the summer movie season, but there's only one movie that the youth of America has on their minds: Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third in the beloved vampires and werewolves series. | 130 | Video'Knight and Day' and 'Grown Ups' At The Movies With Peter Travers | The Grown Ups trailer (with its pee-in-the-pool scene) has led movie critic Peter Travers to use his Get Out of Jail Free card and skip the screening. So what's good At the Movies this weekend? Not the Scum Bucket-bound Knight and Day , the "incredibly stupid" romantic action flick that is totally devoid of sexual chemistry. See why Travers can't take Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise in their new team-up in his weekly video review. Peter Travers picks the season's can't-miss films and the ones with a bad vibe in his summer movie preview. | 6/24/10 | Free | View In iTunes
VideoAt The Movies With Peter Travers: "Toy Story 3," "Cyrus" and "Jonah Hex" | It's been a yawn-inducing summer blockbuster season, stocked with duds like The A-Team and Sex and the City 2, but Rolling Stone's Peter Travers is here with good news as two must-see films are out this Friday At the Movies. | 138 | Video'MacGruber' At The Movies With Peter Travers | Two new summer blockbusters will attempt to knock Iron Man 2 out of Number One this weekend At the Movies: Shrek Forever After and MacGruber. This is real deal 3-D, however, and Shrek Forever After improves upon Shrek the Third, the low point of the series. Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy once again lend their voices as Shrek travels to an alternate reality after making a deal with the trickster Rumpelstiltskin. Robert Downey Jr., Rolling Stone's current cover star, is back as Tony Stark, the egomaniacal arms tycoon who flaunts his alter ego Iron Man. Peter Travers says Downey Jr. is the best of the unmasked big-screen superheroes, playing a "narcissistic bastard" who captivates audiences. Despite boasting one of the worst Russian accents in cinema history, Mickey Rourke is delightful as the villain Whiplash, who causes mass destruction with electric whips. | 5/6/10 | Free | View In iTunes

Looking to cash in on the 3-D craze, producers quickly transformed the Clash of the Titans remake from a "ridiculously stupid" 2-D movie to a "ridiculously stupid" 3-D movie, turning the 1981 special effects classic into a P.O.S., Travers says. | 4/2/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

As always, it's a pleasure to see Downey Jr. on the big screen. Unfortunately, director Guy Ritchie is at the reins of this film, and he dumbs down the Sherlock wit into a period piece that's more like an action caper a la Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels than The Hound of the Baskervilles. | 2/18/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
