CleanEpisode 54 – Previewing Pandaria Part 2! | This week, Majik and I finish up our talent overview for Priests, Rogues, Shaman, Warlocks and Warriors and talk a bit about the Ironman Challenge and a variety of other things. The new Apotheosis recruitment video! Warlocks are like mushrooms. Dev Watercooler on stat changes in Mists of Pandaria. Theck of Sacred Duty talks about the block changes. (It astounds me that we have brilliant people like Theck playing the same game as a random death knight who thinks they can best improve their character by wearing spellpower cloth.) Mists of Pandaria Talent Calculator. Remember, Apotheosis is recruiting! Warlocks, an enhancement shaman and a feral druid tank (must be comfortable doing kitty DPS!) especially, but we’ve recently opened up recruitment to all kinds of DPS, so please do check us out! CleanEpisode 52 – Reviewing Rated Battlegrounds | Our topic for this 52nd episode is rated battlegrounds! What are they all about? How many people can play at once? What are some good strategies and tips for your RBG group? Our guest this week is Merkavah, a raider in Apotheosis who has taken charge of the Apotheosis RBG team. Some helpful addons: BattlegroundTargets – a basic enemy raid frame to show you names, roles and specs of the enemy’s team. Healers Have to Die – an addon that points out enemy healers and also shows when your healers are in trouble. DeadlyBossMods – an addon with many PVE functions, this will also show you timers for flag captures and the like in BGs and RBGs. Remember, Apotheosis of Eldre’Thalas is recruiting! Warlocks in particular, but we’d also look at a resto shaman, an enhancement shaman and other ranged DPS classes. We’re 3/8 HM in Dragon Soul and would love to see some apps! As always, please rate us up on iTunes and shower us with love in your review — and you get a shoutout on the podcast in return. CleanEpisode 49 – A Raid Retrospective | Over the last seven years, there have been quite a few raids released and boy, the format of and entry into those raids has changed substantially. From crazy attunement chains to ones that were much simpler, from 40-man format, to 10-man format, to 25-man format, raids have changed a lot. We examine them in this episode! My Spoon is Too Big/I am a Banana video. Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest chain. On January 21, 2012, four-plus years AFTER the patch that removed the old quest, our buddy (and melee officer) Daey got the Hand of A’dal title on his paladin alt. The comments here are quite interesting. An amusing tale of Kurn, Majik and Fog zerging Sarth 3D 10-man. A similarly amusing tale of Kurn, Majik and Fog playing with Halion. We asked Twitter what their favourite raid instance was. Thanks to everyone who responded and please do follow them! @Technophobia: Karazhan. It’s just the most thematic raid zone, imo. With Ulduar a very close second. @Jezi_Belle: Probably ICC, though mostly for non-design reasons. It was the first raid where I really felt like I was saving the world. @SturgarHawkwind: @Technophobia @kurnmogh You’re going to hear this one [Ulduar] a lot. I second this notion. @zomgAro: Black Temple. Tons of unique, interesting mechanics and environments and epic quest chains. Ulduar is a close second, for story. @matticus: Sunwell. @Restoisepic: karazhan, it’s the only thing that makes me wish I had played BC. I love that instance, the different bosses, rambling old house @azerothapple: Ulduar! basically, it’s a mixture of lorelove for all of storm peaks, the utter beauty of it, and nostalgia for the run I did w/ apoth. @WJRez: Kara. It was my first raid, which I did with my first guild, when we were in our prime. It always brings back nice memories. @DSatt57: BWL for me, so many memories. Made great friends. Great fights at the time. @Serrath_: Serpentshrine Cavern. It was amazing from the elevator all the way to Vashj. @GottaHaveFaythe: Kara. No debate. I wish they would give us another haunted mansion raid! @MathiasSchnell: Ulduar by far. It just seemed to have the best mix of difficulty, atmosphere, lore, and mechanics in it. @35yards: Karazhan, hands down @Jasyla_: Black Temple. Atmosphere and amazing boss fights. @Sylaurian: To be honest Kurn, Molten Core, because it got me started on raiding and it was the one I had the most fun in. @Kadomi: Ulduar. I loved the atmosphere and the lore, and Yogg-Saron was one of my absolute highlights. Beautiful raid. @kenakabones: of all the raids.. its extremely close for me between Karazhan and Ulduar. Mainly because of the variety of the fights and for ulduar; the exponential growth of hard modes and the methods to unlock them. /wanders off looking at the shiny red button @hestiahdruid: Kara and Ulduar, though I never saw either when it was current content, they were still fun as hell. @HoneyTrap2: sunwell, and also BT @MMOSprinks: Definitely SSC as my favorite raid instance. The bosses were both challenging and felt like fresh mechanics after MC, BWL & AQ40. @sarlalian: Ulduar, and anyone who says differently is wrong. Don’t forget to check out Jasyla’s blog, Cannot Be Tamed! And of course, you can also follow us, @kurnmogh and @Majjity and even @ApotheosisET for our guild (apotheosis-now.com! CleanEpisode 48 – Nerfs and Power Outages | Ladies and gentlemen, Episode 48 comes to you today with a few changes to its normal quality. Partway through the Loremaster segment, Majik lost power at his place and so, after much scrambling, we finally managed to get him, myself and our guest, Gina (of healbot.net) on to Skype. The audio quality isn’t great at first, but does improve, though it’s still not at our normal levels of clarity, for which I apologize, and I encourage you all to blame Majik. (#powerisacrutch) That said, we did get through the whole episode, which came in at almost two hours in duration! Our General Chat topic was… the Dragon Soul nerfs that are forthcoming next week. The official Dragon Soul nerfs announcement. To answer DangFool‘s questions in our MOLL-E segment, check out our raw boss kill videos over on YouTube, such as Heroic Alysrazor and Heroic Beth’tilac to get an idea of how we tend to chat in Apotheosis. Kurn’s post on the nerfs. Gina’s post on the nerfs. WoW Insider’s Matthew Rossi on the nerfs (includes some numbers). Many other linked posts, from MMO Melting Pot, including Fannon‘s. An interesting graph of WoW’s subscriptions (all based on officially released numbers and reliable sources). It’s interesting because Burning Crusade came out in January of 2007, Wrath of the Lich King came out in November of 2008 and Cataclysm came out in December of 2010. World of Warcraft got up to 10 million concurrent subscribers before Wrath ever came out. It’s been since Wrath came out that subscriptions initially peaked at 12 million and then dropped off, before a slight uptime in Cataclysm, followed by a decrease. Keep up to date with Gina at her blog, healbot.net (no, she is not the author of that addon!) and on Twitter, @healbot! Speaking of Twitter, I asked folks about the nerfs and if they’d use them or not and a few people had things to say. Be sure to follow them! @Stelshadow: Sovereignty US-Turalyon. 10 man normal. We are making progress on Spine and will probably go with the buff turned off. @piercingshots: Casual (2 nights/week) 10s guild, we’ll definitely keep the debuff on. I am hoping for a guild-1st heroic boss kill this week tho. @fannon451: Our raid will use it as there is no point in turning them off. I reserve the right to complain bitterly, tho. http://t.co/9LMXapim WTSHeals: Mixed bag. Some of our raid wants it off. People like me don’t really care since it’s just for personal gain and not achieves. If there was an achieve for NOT using the buff, it might motivate us to not use it, otherwise we’re likely just gimping ourselves. @BloodyGneisha: I see no problem with turning it off and seeing how far we can go. Our issue isn’t ability, it’s timing – everyone’s schedule sucks and it’s difficult to get everyone together. @_Rades: We’re working on Madness, so if we don’t get him in our 2 nights before the nerfs hit, maybe we’ll be glad for them. Maybe not? : I imagine we’ll do without until we get him, unless we’re making no headway and it’s really stressing us out. And of course, you can also follow us, @kurnmogh and @Majjity and even @ApotheosisET for our guild (apotheosis-now.com!). Please rate us up on iTunes and leave us a review for a shoutout! CleanEpisode 47 – LFR & You | Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to Blessing of Frost! Episode 47 is now out for your amusement and enjoyment, so sit back and relax as Majik and I discuss stuff from Monday, January 9th, including all about LFR, our General Chat topic of the week. 4.3.2 notes from MMO-Champion. The crazy baby carrots commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bhq_NL6jL0 The dog at my parents’ house: http://twitpic.com/858zin Some links and thoughts from listeners who tweeted us — follow them! @Restoisepic: LFR so far: pros: easy way to get T13 if lucky and 50% of weekly valour in 2 bosses, Cons: the overall attitude seems to stink additionally, there are not enough sad mooses in there @xmolder: I think it’s great, but loses its sheen after you’ve seen regular mode mechanics. Not that mechanics matter. @RandyLite: LFR I despise it wholeheartedly, I have completed it on 5 alt’s and my main goes weekly for possible upgrades. Reminds me of the trollroics grind for slightly better gear. It teaches bad habits and really brings out the loot w***e in ppl. 500 valor is nice but it feels like 3 or 4 trollroics rolled into one 2 hour endeavor. @thereadycheck: i did a short write up on LFR conflicts. lot of bloggers talking LFR i know, seems like many within the last 2 or so weeks. http://www.thereadycheck.com/?p=1500 @WoWMiri @_vidyala @matticus had a great LFR posts as well! WoWMiri: http://wowmiri.wordpress.com/2011/12/24/pitfalls-of-lfr-and-ideas-for-improvement/ Vidyala: http://manalicious.wordpress.com/2012/01/03/looking-for-community/ Matticus: http://www.worldofmatticus.com/2011/12/12/11-raid-finder-personalities/ @Derevka: You think its undertuned to the point where it fosters poor raiding habits? Not “too easy” per say, but poor habits not assisting the tank, not DPSing the strategic target, heroism/lust timing, standing in the proverbial fire… @e_man41: lfr is a pointless exercise in being mad at people you don’t know over gear you don’t really need @GottaHaveFaythe: LFR has caused me to lose interest in our progression raids. I no longer get that special feeling of seeing a new encounter and then finally getting the kill. No joy or adrenaline rush. It just feels… Blah.. It’s sad! Our 25m team hasn’t been able to pull together a FULL team since it released. We’ve been doing 22-24m kills. CleanEpisode 46 – The Fall of Deathwing Bosses | Welcome back, everyone! Here’s hoping your holidays were wonderful and you’re all set to come back and kick some Dragon Soul ass! In this episode, we cover Ultraxion, Warmaster Blackhorn, Spine of Deathwing and the Madness of Deathwing. It’s a pretty hefty episode, so I hope you’re ready! Hotfixes! There were some minor hotfixes that came out over the break and we also cover the ones that came out shortly after we recorded the podcast last time. The winner of our contest was JoeEgo812! He made us an awesome MOLL-E bumper, which you’ll hear in this very episode. He chose a Lil’ KT as his prize, courtesy of Serrath! Again, thanks to Serrath for providing the prize and thanks so much to Joe for participating in the contest. The rest of you could, you know, submit stuff! The I Took an Arrow in the Knee meme comes from the new(ish) game Skyrim, which both myself and Maj had the opportunity to play over the holidays. (In particular, this YouTube video – which is loud and NSFW – is pretty amusing.) Tips from Twitter folks about the back-half of Dragon Soul — follow them! @xmolder: Please, for the love of God, kill the tendon. #brotip @BeruHeals: Don’t fall off the dragon! @JoeEgo812: On Blackhorn, your raid only NEEDS to soak the Twilight Onslaught (large swirly). / Regenerative Bloods are easier to burst down on later platforms if you let them stack up & regen once before starting AOE. @thereadycheck, re: Ultraxion: noticed so many 10 mans still 3 heal it when 2 healing is simple with good crystal use. @miss_pewpew, re: fights where you should stack: Stack tight. I see soo many ranged sitting out of healing aoe circles *pulls my hair out* Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter, too: @kurnmogh and @Majjity for us and then @ApotheosisET for our guild (apotheosis-now.com!). CleanEpisode 42 – Awesome Anniversary | Ladies and gentlemen, one year ago, we embarked upon a crazy adventure that has led to a lot of laughter, some bleeped profanity, many late nights, a few early mornings and, well, a LOT of time talking about WoW together and with various guests. Episode 42 is our one-year anniversary episode and it is totally packed with awesome and clocks in over two hours in length, but it’s absolutely worth it. Why’s that? It’s because we contacted some of our guests from our most-downloaded episodes and somehow convinced three of them to make their returns to the show! Beruthiel – You know her as the raid leader of the Horde guild Monolith (US-Llane) and the resto druid blogger behind Falling Leaves and Wings. She’s also on Twitter as @BeruHeals. She was previously on Blessing of Frost for Episode 23 – Legislation for a Legendary. (She may also now be nicknamed “Bloodlust”…) Stoneybaby – Known primarily for being the guild master of the Horde guild Big Crits (US-Sen’jin) and the creator/producer of the Big Crits web series, Stoney was last with us on Episode 11 – Progression Pointers. He can also be found on Twitter as @stoneybaby. Vidyala – Guild master of the Alliance guild Business Time (US-Moonrunner), Vid is also known as the Pugging Pally and the blogger behind the blog Manalicious. She was a guest with us for Episode 13 – 10s vs. 25s (and was also a guest with Kurn for Episode 13 of My Epic Heals!). Most recently, she’s been busy releasing new comics over at From Draenor With Love every Wednesday. You can find her as @_vidyala on Twitter. Here’s a link related to Episode 40 – The Corpsegrinder Controversy, shared with us by Luke, who sent us a great email for our MOLL-E segment. This link offers a compelling (and very personal) argument as to why homophobic language should not be tolerated. Please consider yourselves warned, it may have potential triggers for some readers. http://vorpalbunnyranch.wordpress.com/ Apotheosis of Eldre’Thalas is a 25-man 6/7 HM Alliance guild and seeking a retribution paladin and a hunter, so check us out and apply now! Monolith, a 25-man 7/7 HM Horde guild on the US-Llane server, is seeking a DPS death knight. Business Time of Moonrunner is a 10-man 6/7 HM Alliance guild, seeking two quality players, preferably on the Conqueror token (priests, paladins, warlocks!). #sadmoose shoutouts! A bunch of people tweeted us with the #sadmoose hashtag and got shoutouts on the show. Here they are on twitter — follow them! @Technophobia: Why is #sadmoose sad? @FFPMMarc (MegaCode): #sadmoose @RandyLite: Do previously tweeted #sadmoose count? @YAWoWB (Rooster): what kind of #sadmoose ? Any #sadmoose or a very specific #sadmoose ? Does the #sadmoose have to be WoW related or IRL? @JoeEgo812: The sweet bleating sound of the #sadmoose @DangDangFool: Sinuses? #SadMoose @PotatoeWoW (extra shoutout for #craw!): Nerfs ftw. Heroics out of reach for my guild. Heroic Ragnaros? Impossible anyway, so idc how hard he is. #sadmoose #craw @gumhead: I love the #sadmoose podcast…. errrr….. I mean the Blessing of Frost podcast. @facemauler: just to irritate Majik even more… #sadmoose And we also got a tweet after we recorded the show: @badtauren: was a #sadmoose till I found BoF on stitcher. Its about time yay! And @DSatt57 sent us a Tip of the Week! “When doing the Harvest Week quests the first day, get 25 of each main ingredient. Start in SW, go to IF, back to SW, then Darn.” Please do follow us on Twitter as well! @kurnmogh and @Majjity for us and then @ApotheosisET for our guild. Also, please rate us up on iTunes and leave us a review for a shoutout! Once again, thank you to all our listeners for your support, interest and interaction with us over the last year. CleanEpisode 41 – The Repeated Routs by Ragnaros | Welcome to Episode 41 of Blessing of Frost! This week, our topic is Heroic Ragnaros. With just 2.5% of Firelands raiding guilds at 7/7 HM (according to guildox.com as of this recording), does this constitute a problem? What about the fight itself, are the mechanics just that challenging? Majik and Kurn explore the concept and design of Heroic Ragnaros this week. Of course, we’re not the only ones talking about this. Last week, Lore from TankSpot addressed the issue in Episode 107 of The Weekly Marmot. Beruthiel, of the guild Monolith on the Llane server, who was our guest here for Episode 23 of Blessing of Frost, posted her thoughts about Heroic Ragnaros in late October on her blog, in a post called “Are 400 Pull Kills Good Design? Are They Fun?“. It was talked about over at MMO Melting Pot as well (read the comments on both posts! @Pliers1 makes some great points on the MMO Melting Pot article) and Borsk (who raids with Beru) posted a response blog about it as well. Beru’s guild got Rag down last week, so she and Borsk both had things to say. So, what are your thoughts on Heroic Ragnaros? We’d love to hear what you have to say. podcast [at] blessingoffrost.com Follow us (and tweet us!) on Twitter (don’t forget to tweet with the #sadmoose hashtag for a shout-out next week!): @kurnmogh and @Majjity for us and then @ApotheosisET for our guild. And don’t forget to check out Majik’s blog: Majik’s Missives — he’s got a few posts up already and enjoys comments. CleanEpisode 40 – The Corpsegrinder Controversy | That’s right, folks, Episode 40 of Blessing of Frost is here (albeit a few days late!) and we tackle the once-current topic of Corpsegrinder’s homophobic rant that was played at BlizzCon 2011. First, a little background on George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher. Next, the full video in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW_Lv0r-l4c (NOT SAFE FOR WORK!) Note that the contents of this video are not condoned by Kurn and Majik. We do not approve of this kind of language and are merely linking it so that you have context. A variety of blog posts on the subject from MMO Melting Pot: http://www.mmomeltingpot.com/2011/10/the-homophobic-corpsegrinder-rant-at-blizzcon-explodes In particular, Pewter’s posts: 1) http://mentalshaman.com/2011/10/27/blizzcon-this-is-about-homophobia-not-horde-v-alliance/ 2) http://mentalshaman.com/2011/10/28/blizzcon-a-much-better-apology/ We want to hear what you have to say! We want to include your stuff in our brand-new MOLL-E segment! Send us your thoughts, mp3s, bumpers, tips, whatever! CleanEpisode 39 – BlizzCon Banter! | Episode 39 shows up (a little late in the day) and discusses the happenings of BlizzCon 2011! No, Kurn and Majik weren’t there, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a lot to say about the weekend’s events! MMO-Champion has everything you need to know about the upcoming WoW expansion and BlizzCon coverage. MMO Melting Pot has a great breakdown of all the new talents for each class. CleanEpisode 38 – Happy Hallow’s End! | Another holiday is upon us and, yet again, Kurn and Majik tackle the various achievements related to the holidays. Of course, shortly after recording the episode, Wowhead came out with a guide that shows that the holiday has changed to remove the majority of the randomness from it! But we still cover the holiday fairly well anyway. Some links and images: From October 18th, 2007 (!), Toga, Tia (as Tweetybird) and Kurn (as Madrana) take down the Headless Horseman! And afterwards, in Shattrath, with Toga on his fancy new broom, Tia as a leper gnome and all of us with pumpkinheads: Some awesome people who shared their Hallow’s End stories: @SturgarHawkwind: Just before WotLK hit, during Hallow’s End, I tried transferring my main. Got stuck in limbo for two weeks; missed most of the event as well as all of the end of the Scourge Invasion. I still curse myself for not getting a Vampiric Batling. @Seraph1337: I killed that bastard 400+ times when the mount was a drop. Never saw it until bag loot, and then everyone had one. @FFPMMarc: We getting any epic loot from it this year”Hallows End”?? @TiaofET: Isn’t that when you me and toga three manned the boss for our pumpkin heads and CANDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! @SerrinneWoW: Here’s my Hallow’s End story: I have 3 headless horseman mounts. @TikariOfET: One time I was minding my own business in Stormwind, and Kurnmogh pumpkin-headed me. And here’s the Shade of Aran Chant from YTMND: http://shadeofaranchant.ytmnd.com/ Still pretty awesome after all these years. We want to hear what you have to say! We want to include your stuff in our brand-new MOLL-E segment! Send us your thoughts, mp3s, bumpers, tips, whatever! Our address is: podcast [at] blessingoffrost.com Follow us (and tweet us!) on Twitter: @kurnmogh and @Majjity for us and then @ApotheosisET for our guild. Also, please rate us up on iTunes and leave us a review! And, finally, Kurn got nominated for a Stopie Award! While Blessing of Frost did not, sadly, get enough nominations for best podcast or anything of the sort, Kurn got nominated for “Loudest Voice on Twitter“! Please head over to vote in the Stopies and vote for Kurn! We also recommend Convert To Raid in the categories they’re nominated in — Zhug, Koltrane and the others put together a great show every week. CleanEpisode 37 – Triple M Edition: Mylana, Majik and Madrana | Episode 37 is here, complete with obscure references to the movie Clerks, as well as some talk about burnout as it pertains to WoW. Our special guest this week is Mylana, a combat rogue from Choice of Skywall (currently 3/7 25-man HM, looking for DPS and healers!). Pliers (@pliers1) from Edge of Garona (also home of @Derevka and @MelOfEdge) had some really interesting things to say about burnout on Twitter: “(Burnout is) caused by a lack of tangible goals, and not meeting your expectations.” “You need something to work towards, and something to reward your effort, or the lack of purpose starts to weigh heavily.” Causes of his own personal burnout: “1) Guild taking a break 2) Being in a leadership position and dealing with all the problems 3) WotLK release and only Naxx to raid. 4) Mid-tier content repeatedly being dailies and heroics, when you don’t care about dailies, and don’t do heroics. 5) Feeling burnout, but also feeling like you’re committed to helping a group of people, so you keep going, and burnout gets worse. I’ve experienced all of those over the years, and probably more. But I’m still here, and not feeling too shabby at the moment.” We also had a bunch of other people chime in: @Holynightt: “honestly 4.1 was my burnout phase. I took thr troll heroic tier off. Came back 2 weeks before 4.2 and my guild was totally different cause a lot of raiders left after 2 tiers of bwd and bot. I got my taking spot handed right back to me but some of members still grudge me that I had my spot handed back.” @walkstweets: “Burnout: placing far too much emphasis one activity as a method of interaction, personal fulfillment, or mask for deeper troubles.” And later, “I had to switch guilds when I was raiding with a PST-based guild (while living on the East Coast). It was awful.” @_vidyala: “I avoid burnout by delegating, taking occasional short (3-4) day breaks, and playing non wow games when it starts to be a chore.” @e_man41: “see: profile pic. Any physical activity is good for stress/burnout relief.” (Pic is him playing hockey.) @rhyane: “I take at least one, maybe two days off during the week to do crafty stuff or play non-WoW games.” @stellery: “biggest cause of my burnout is the fact that I didn’t communicate what I was feeling to my officers. and that of course snowballed into a bigger monster and led to my eventual disconnect from the game!” @Sense_Andrew: “For me, it is only being interested in one facet of the game. I raid. Everything else is a grind to me and burns me out.” @Technophobia: “I burned out mid-BC from raiding on an EST server while living in PST. Also I was in a guild with delusions of being way more hardcore than they were. I quit raiding, been much happier since.” @MiniMorvel: “The lack of motivation. I had no goal. It all felt pointless. So I quit but my friends kept dragging me back. Aaaand repeat. I feel like Blizz is trying to make every player have this long-term goal but it’s failed with every expansion.” @FFPMMarc: “My burnout is controlled with PVP.” And don’t forget to nominate Blessing of Frost over at The Stopies! You can nominate us for Best Podcast! Nominations close on Sunday, October 16th, so definitely submit us over there. Thanks again to Mylana from Choice for coming on the show. CleanEpisode 36 – Nassi Natters | Today’s episode of Blessing of Frost has a special guest from the guild Choice on the US Skywall server. Nassi, the recruitment officer from Choice, joins us to chat about different sorts of personalities being drawn to different types of roles in the game. (Choice, 2/7 on 25-man heroic Firelands, by the way, is seeking a hunter, an elemental shaman, a mage, a moonkin and a holy paladin. Check them out now at choiceguild.com!) For those of you who are as uneducated as Majik is about who Athene is (hint: The Greatest Paladin in the World!), here’s his very first video. It starts out slow, but picks up around the third and especially fourth minutes and is absolutely hilarious to watch if only for the “whoosh, around the corner” thing or the “You’re pro or you’re a noob. That’s life,” sentiment Athene expresses. I’m not particularly a fan of his, but this guy can be hilarious. http://youtu.be/cLYrFR9RT_U Once again, we shout-out to The Daily Blink! Nassi talks about the Aggro Challenge Accepted comic, located here: http://www.thedailyblink.com/2011/08/aggro-challenge-accepted/ And I lament the perpetual nerfing to the ground of paladins, as seen here: http://www.thedailyblink.com/2011/09/pay-no-attention-to-the-man-behind-the-server/ Awesome job to the Daily Blink folks, keep the awesomeness going. Thanks again to Megacode from the Knights of Tranquility over on the Scryers server for sending in his thoughts about the Firelands nerfs! Apotheosis took down Heroic Beth’tilac this week as well as Heroic Alysrazor. Check out our kill videos! Heroic Beth’tilac: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3ywX1W1700 Heroic Alysrazor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGn_-MlFNQg And don’t forget to nominate Blessing of Frost over at The Stopies! CleanEpisode 35 – Nerf News and Reactions | So the nerfs have arrived and boy, is the blogosphere opinionated about this! We sort of have a guest this week. Katarnas (aka Kat) from the guild Otaku on the Chamber of Aspects (EU) realm and the blog Resto Is Epic asked us via email (at podcast [at] blessingoffrost.com!) if we’d be interested in his views on the nerfs as a very casual 10-man raider. We said sure, but because he’s in the UK, he’s five hours ahead of us and recording times this week just didn’t really pan out, so… he sent us an epic audio file of himself talking about the nerfs, chunks of which you’ll find included in this super-long episode! Like, very long. As in, nearly two hours in length. Don’t say we didn’t warn you! At any rate, that was a new way of having a guest sort of on the show and we really appreciate Kat taking the time to record his thoughts and send them along! Soooooooo many links… First up, Choice of Skywall is still recruiting! A moonkin, a holy paladin, a holy priest, a mage and an elemental shaman would all be welcome additions to a fun raid team that is currently 1/7 25-man HM in Firelands. Check ‘em out! And now… blog reactions to the Great Firelands Nerfs, which are detailed in the Blizzard Hotfix notes: Jasyla at Cannot Be Tamed: http://www.cannotbetamed.com/2011/09/13/to-the-ground Marks 365: http://marks-365.morynne.com/2011/09/firelands-nerf-so-soon http://marks-365.morynne.com/2011/09/september-20th-firelands-nerfday I Like Bubbles: http://forthebubbles.wordpress.com/2011/09/13/welcome-the-nerf-bat-overlords/ Kurn: http://kurn.apotheosis-now.com/?p=2032 : first reaction. http://kurn.apotheosis-now.com/?p=2054 : talking about our first night with the nerfs. CleanEpisode 34 – Brewfest Babbling | Episode 34 is here and while it contains no bleeping, unlike last week, it does contain a bunch of information about Brewfest, which starts today! Here’s a link to Kurn’s angry blog post about the nerfs. And here’s a link to Kurn’s much more positive and helpful Holy How-To Guide! Here’s a WoW Insider post that links a couple of other posts talking about the nerfs, which includes a link to Beru’s post. You may remember that Beru was our guest on Episode 23 of Blessing of Frost, Legislation for a Legendary. MMO Melting Pot had a few different round-ups of nerf-related posts. Of note is the link to Jasyla’s blog post about it. Jasyla, of course, raids with us in Apotheosis and she was a guest on Episode 28 of Blessing of Frost, Feeling Out Firelands. And here are some handy-dandy Brewfest resources: Wowhead’s guide to Brewfest – don’t forget that the comments on the individual achievements are almost always really helpful! CleanEpisode 33 – Nerdraging About Nerfs | Right smack dab in the middle of recording Episode 33 of Blessing of Frost, I saw this on my Twitter feed: And so Majik and I decided to talk about the upcoming Firelands nerfs in this week’s episode. Here’s the original post: With the final showdown against Deathwing approaching, we’ve been keeping a close eye on players’ progress through the current Firelands raid content. Before patch 4.3 is released, we want groups who are working on Heroic-difficulty content to be able to get as close to Ragnaros as possible, and we want players who are tackling normal progression to be able to experience as many of the encounters as they can. To achieve these goals, we’ll be toning down the difficulty of both normal and Heroic raids through hotfixes in the coming weeks. In general, we plan to reduce health and damage of all raid bosses in both normal and Heroic Firelands by around the same percentage we brought difficulty down for the original Cataclysm raids when Rage of the Firelands (patch 4.2) was released. We’re looking forward to seeing more groups of players face off against the firelord in the weeks ahead. However, before we make these changes, we want to give everyone a final shot at the bosses at their current difficulty level — so this is a heads up that we’re planning to apply the difficulty hotfixes beginning the week of September 19. Stay tuned to the Patch 4.2 Hotfixes blog for these and other live updates to the game as they happen. What do you think about the nerfs? CleanEpisode 32 – Kaleri’s Crohn’s and Sara’s Sclerosis | Episode 32 is here and brings with it some, er, “engaging” news in Majik’s life. We also have our first-ever show with two guests, Kaleri and Sara (who was previously on Episode 21 of Blessing of Frost) and we discuss chronic diseases (in particular, Crohn’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis) in the context of World of Warcraft and how players with these conditions are affected by WoW or how their WoW playing is affected by their conditions. The Dev Watercooler post with the signoff: “Greg ‘Ghostcrawler’ Street is the lead systems designer for World of Warcraft and he probably listens to your podcast.” This spawned the new segment we call “Dear Ghostcrawler…” Apotheosis of Eldre’Thalas is seeking a tank! CleanEpisode 30 – 4.3 Forecasts | The 30th episode of Blessing of Frost is out! Our guest is X, also known as the warlock formerly known as Dreadsinger, a raiding warlock in Apotheosis. In today’s episode, we discuss Transmogrification, Void Storage and touch a bit on 4.3 and Deathwing being the last raid of the expansion already! On Sunday, August 21, Kurn was a guest on the My Epic Heals podcast, which is hosted by Eade and Wolf. The other guest on the holy paladin-centric episode was Vidyala from the blog Manalicious and the guild Business Time. You might remember that, back on March 17th, Vid was our guest here on Episode 13 of Blessing of Frost: 10s vs 25s. Hotfixes from August 16. CleanEpisode 29 – Feeling out Firelands – Part 2! | Picking up where we left off last week, Majik and I talk about Baleroc, Majordomo Staghelm and Ragnaros in the Firelands. Episode 29 already? How did THAT happen? Hotfixes from August 10th As promised, we said in the podcast that we’d update you guys on how Sunday’s raid went. Majik totally jinxed us. We spent 3 hours wiping primarily in P2 of Ragnaros. We 5-healed it the whole time, which was a great challenge and we were up to it. It was just positioning and mechanics that we need to work out. CleanEpisode 28 – Feeling Out Firelands | Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Episode 28 of Blessing of Frost! Today’s special topic: Feeling Out Firelands! Okay, not quite. It’s more of a run-through of Shannox, Beth’tilac, Lord Rhyolith and Alysrazor. Baleroc, Majordomo Staghelm and Ragnaros are coming next week! (We VASTLY underestimated our ability to talk, so ignore us when we say we’re covering Baleroc in this episode. We’re not! And yet, we’re still over 90 minutes on this sucker.) Our guest this week is Jasyla, a resto druid raider in Apotheosis, who was also recently on the Twisted Nether blogcast. Of course, immediately after recording this episode of Blessing of Frost, Blizzard decided to release a minor patch. You can find the official notes for 4.2.0A here. As well, here are some hotfixes from August 4th. Here’s Kurn’s blog post about Ragnaros that Majik was talking about: Ragnaros, Version 2.0 And here’s a link to the comment on Kurn’s blog that Jasyla made about female night elves! http://kurn.apotheosis-now.com/?p=1012#comments Here’s a link to Kurn’s video for Alysrazor tornadoes: Kurn’s Guide to Alysrazor Tornadoes And here’s Jasyla’s post about her trouble with the aforementioned tornadoes: http://www.cannotbetamed.com/2011/07/18/illusory-superiority/ Jasyla’s blog can be found at: http://www.cannotbetamed.com/ And you can find her on Twitter at: @Jasyla_ Kurn likes to tweet, too, and will occasionally tweet questions to her followers with regards to the podcast. CleanEpisode 27 – Tikari Talks! | It’s time, yet again, for another episode of Blessing of Frost! Our guest this time around is the newly-promoted-to-officer Tikari, a rogue who joined us in Apotheosis just before Cataclysm launched. Our General Chat topic consists of a discussion of the various hooks Blizzard uses to get us to keep playing, followed by why we’re still playing so many years on. As noted in the post for last week’s podcast, Blizzard went out and immediately added Valor Points back into T11 content, shortly after we recorded the podcast. Hooray for being out of date? More hotfixes: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/3019413 Follow Apotheosis, Kurn and Tikari on Twitter: @ApotheosisET @kurnmogh @TikariOfET Don’t forget to rate us up on iTunes! Please note that due to Majik heading to Maine with his girlfriend and her family, there will be no podcast for August 2nd. We’ll return on August 9th, 2011! In the meantime, feel free to keep up to date with all the latest Apotheosis-related happenings at the Apotheosis website or Kurn’s blog. CleanEpisode 26 – Various Valor Point Vexations | After a mistakenly extended vacation from the podcast, Majik and Kurn are back with episode 26 of Blessing of Frost. Today’s show discusses the many issues with the Valor Point system and Kurn clearly has a lot to say on the matter. Please bear in mind that this podcast was recorded before Blizzard announced they would put Valor Points back into Tier 11 content normal modes. CleanEpisode 24 – A Foggy Fire Festival | Episode 24 brings with it a familiar face, er, voice, in the form of Fog, who was our very first guest on the podcast, way back in November. We also take cheap shots at Pat Sajak, mock people who make Kurn rich and take an in-depth look at the Midsummer Fire Festival, which launched today! Some notes before we give out a bunch of links: 1) The Orgrimmar Fire has moved. It is not horrible to get to. But it’s still not a good time. 2) Honoring and desecrating fires gives guild rep! As a human, wearing the Illustrious Guild Tabard, in a guild with the 10% reputation bonus, I am getting about 35 rep per fire honoured and 70 rep per fire desecrated. 3) Northrend fires are apparently NOT required for the meta, however, it’s in your best interest to do so in order to gather as many Burning Blossoms as possible. (Also, guild rep! Money! Fame — wait, no, not fame. But guild rep and money!) 4) The Ice Stone that melts is what starts the Ahune event. Ahune stops 90% of damage until he retreats into his Frozen Core. Focus adds, then switch to Ahune and pop Heroism/Bloodlust/Time Warp as soon as he “retreats”. Okay, on to some links! Lord Ahune’s new drop table is here at MMO-Champion. Wowhead’s excellent Fire Festival Guide. Fox Van Allen’s Gold Capped article. (@foxvanallen) Kurn tweeted: What do you love/hate about the Midsummer Fire Festival? These fine folks responded. CleanEpisode 21 – Summer Slowdown | Summer is nearly upon us in the northern hemisphere and that means the dreaded summer slowdown is a possible stumbling block for raiding guilds (PVP guilds, RP guilds) throughout WoW. Any kind of guild where group participation is required in some fashion could be affected. What can combat this? How does guild management deal with this? Our special guest this week is Serrinne (aka Sara), a raiding holy priest of ours in Apotheosis. Fortune Card that Kurn flipped: You are very fortunate! From first of june to last of august @Vosskah: we have a similar thread for planned absences. I also send raid invites a month ahead now to help with planning. @mageic: nothing, as we are coming into Winter here @matticus: with even more massive recruiting! @JoeEgo812: Fight the apathy with recruitment & gkicks. @Shetawy: Continue the show. it must go on after all! CleanEpisode 20 – Switching is Srsbusiness! | Our 20th episode of Blessing of Frost is out and our special guest this week is Srsbusiness, a shadow priest raider in Apotheosis. Our subject this week is about people switching mains — why they do it, as well as the problems it can cause or even resolve, particularly in a raiding guild. We cut the Hot Fix segment out this week because we rambled a bit and didn’t want to go as long as we did, but do check out the official Blizzard hotfixes: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/2690293#blog Switch videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvd5hpX2dy8 – Mage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5mD1n4v2JA – Paladin Kurn asked Twitter: Have you ever changed raiding mains? Tweet me the WHY, now! Here are some lovely people you should follow because they were awesome to respond to us! @restokin: I changed mains to a resto shaman for part of tBC because my druid’s idol wouldn’t drop in shadow labs. and also, resto shaman were way overpowered in tBC, lol. I went back to my druid when WotLK hit… @_darista_: Mage to Resto Shaman (duh) – bored with Mage, liked to heal, didn’t want to fight anymore over cloth gear hehe @Orithea: switched from a warlock to a paladin because I discovered I loved tanking and healing @Bindww: I changed from Resto Druid to Prot/DPS warrior for no particular reason, but maintained raider status anyway! @Szayel_: I went from a Resto Shaman in TBC/WotLK to Holy Paladin mainly for a change of pace. @Arydel_AD: Several times. And always because the guild needed it. Mage to Pally and then Pally to Priest in ICC. @SaltySlainte: Switched from Shadow Priest to Holy Paladin. BC into WotLK. My DPS sucked, that’s why. @TheWompage: switched from a DK to a holy pally because we needed healers. Levelled from 1 to 80 just to help out Dayden: Went from tanking in Wrath to Enhancement Shaman. Enjoyed the complexity and chaos over 969. @LynestaWoW: I changed raiding mains during EverQuest2 because my class got nerfed into the ground and our raid needed more healers. CleanEpisode 17 – Talking to Tiandrina (the Insane) | Episode 17 arrives with Tiandrina as our guest this week! We gripe about weird heroic lockouts and talk a lot about reputation with the Queen of Rep of Apotheosis! Remote Guild Chat Announcement Elections.ca – Canadians, go vote on May 2nd! Choice of Skywall – Looking for just about anything except warlocks and hunters, Choice is a great group of people who are 11/12 on 25-man (just Al’Akir up) and 12/12 on 10-man. Apply now! Prior to the show, I asked people to tweet me with their most hated rep grinds and the ones they thought were easiest. Follow these fine people! @DPShaw3: Earthen Ring is least favorite right now. Needs dailies! @TikariOfET: Timbermaw and sporeggar weren’t bad – herbalist rogue made the latter easy. Hate ogrila; aether rays at 80 or 85 suck @kenakabones: you say that implying any rep doesnt suck… but the most hated would have to be Hydraxian Waterlords just because its so limited @Bindww: Without question the guild rep. It takes too long of a grind and the random caps it puts on rep makes it nigh impossible to hit Exalted with a new guild. Deters people from leaving their guilds and hurts recruitment as a whole. @Hulrok: Favorite was the rep grind in Nagrand for the mount. Least favorite was Sons of Hodir, pre relics. @SerrinneWoW: Switching from Scryer exalted to Aldor exalted was my most hated but gave me an achivement. SOOO many dead spiders! hyjal rep was easy and fun @Technophobia: favorites = any Bronze Dragonflight related ones. Most-hated = Duke Wetnap and the Hydraxian Warlords. | 4/19/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Cho’gall tips: @xmolder: While taking down the adds in Cho’gall’s fight is important, demo locks need to cut out that Hellfire spam. Send your felguard in, but stand back and use Rain of Fire for the bloods. Immo Aura is totally safe for the eyestalks, though. @SturgarHawkwind: Re: Cho’Gall: Going into Phase 2, if there’s no fire on the throne, tank him there and clump up inside the skull. Gathers up the Creations in a small area (allowing for AoE). Also, if you’ve got SV hunters, Entrapment is HUGE. If you need blood help, get it. @Shathus: have a hunter spec w/Entrapment for 2 extra slime stuns on Cho’gall Dayden: Prot paladins can make a macro to target an enemy player, throw AS, then target back to Cho. Works great to break worshiping! @BeruHeals: Make a power aura for when you are puking so you don’t throw up on your friends! @e_man41: IRL power aura needed RT “@BeruHeals: @kurnmogh Make a power aura for when you are puking so you don’t throw up on your friends! @TikariOfET: Cho: Hotkey *all* your interrupts and determine a priority order going in so you know which to fire next. @TikariOfET: Cho: smokebomb works wonders on tentacles. Smoke, they’ll target you, then cloak off. Lowers the raid damage. Nefarian tips: @Derevka: Lightwell on the Pillars for Nef. Glyph Psychic Scream on Chogal. @walkstweets: Nefarian: despite pillar assignments, everyone on the pillar (who isn’t assigned) who can interrupt should gun for the first! / Nefarian: On the pillars, a lightwell can be placed over the lava. It floats! @SerrinneWoW: 4Nef: click the lightwell while tail-whipped! useable while stunned also glyph your GS/PS if you are the p3 add tank healer @xmolder: Bane of Havoc and Shadowburn are a destro lock’s best friends in Nefarian! Use them on Ony (or Nef, if you’re on Ony-duty) and the pillar add to help keep Improved Soul Fire rolling without hard casting it. Plus, it pads the meters. @JoeEgo812: Glyphed Divine Protection + HoSac on a tank for a crackle works. Useful? Not sure. @Bindww: INTERRUPT!!!!! / for Nef p2. Jump up onto the platform at an angle so you don’t get stuck on the sides @OriginalOestrus: Body & Soul is great for helping the add tank kite adds in P3 and for your healers to keep up with them. @TikariOfET: rogue-specific: feint at 2s left on elec. cast and cloak (if up) at .5s. That way if timing is off on cloak, feint will be up / if you’re having trouble getting out of lava, try a different spot around the pillar. Tab-target before getting out. CleanEpisode 15 – Beating Down Bastion | Episode 15 of Blessing of Frost — how on earth did that happen? No guest this week, just Majik and Kurn chattering away about Halfus Wyrmbreaker, Valiona & Theralion and the Ascendant Council. And we are proven wrong once again… Hours after recording the podcast, MMO-Champion updated the ZA/ZG loot list to include: Bracers of Hidden Purpose. The purpose of which, I imagine, is so that Kurn can upgrade from 316 blue bracers relatively easily… Vidyala’s Gemming for Fire Mages post Blizzard’s April Fool’s Patch Notes Thanks to Selyndia who commented over on my blog about Al’Akir Halfus Schedule: http://www.halfus.info/ and http://www.wowpedia.org/Halfus_Wyrmbreaker#Drake_combinations Canadians, go vote on May 2nd! http://www.elections.ca/ Rate us up on iTunes! Tips and tricks from helpful people on Twitter (follow them!): @Hulrok: In Council trash, be sure you can tell which circles are bad and which are good. @walkstweets: You can sneak up the middle of the room to avoid trash between Halfus and the Drakes. / I suppose more seriously: the phase shifter trash can be LoSed and aoed down (the two packs before Halfus). / Hand of Protection is great for the stacks on Halfus, Hand of Freedom yourself after getting the grounded buff to axe the slow. @SturgarHawkwind: Do the Portal masters last, they create much wackiness. Also, on the faceless, split em up and ice trap preemptively. @bippy1990: be liberal with mana on the dragons as mana tide can be dropped more than once xx / my guild like blood lust to be dropped on the first drake on halfus. From a resto shammy on EU – Saurfang xx @TikariOfET: V&T – rogues should be feinting throughout the fight, redirecting between dragons, and using cloak for blackout/meteorite. / You should send someone you’re willing to sacrifice down the long stairs to eat the elementals. @JoeEgo812: Parachute cloak, slow fall, HoP, charge abilities, etc all prevent fall damage from Gravity Crush. | 4/5/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanEpisode 13 – 10s vs. 25s | Episode 13 makes its long-awaited debut after being interrupted mid-recording on Monday. Our special guest this week is Vidyala of Manalicious, who you may remember as The Pugging Pally. Vid is the guild master of Business Time, an Alliance 10-man raiding guild over on the US-Moonrunner server. Our topic this week is 10s vs. 25s! Thanks to everyone for tweeting at me with regards to our topic! Here are the various tweets I got, distilled down into the basics. Follow these people on Twitter if you’re not already. 25 issues: - more of a chance you’ll raid with someone you don’t like – Dahrla - harder to diagnose issues due to the larger group composition – Walks - more paperwork – Walks - 25s are much harder on your framerate – Fannon451 - more officers, more organization, “tends to feel more like a small country than a group of friends playing a game” – Dahrla - some people in 25s feel like strangers – Dahrla - not being able to find 15 more! – SaltySlainte 10 issues: - everyone needs to perform to their best ability/less margin for error – Vosskah, Shathus - you don’t have every class buff – _Rades, Mrhealthplan had to switch from holy priest to holy pally for the group to have might. - there’s probably no such thing as an “ideal raid comp” given the lack of bodies – Walks, Dayden - can feel less grandiose – Vosskah, Dahrla - zone-heal mechanics are not as effective in a 10-man setting (Light of Dawn and Holy Radiance in particular) – Walks Ranking sites: - WoWProgress - GuildOx - WowTrack Blessing of Frost on iTunes, rate us up! Awesome
Very entertaining podcast
A "good times" podcast
I'm Canadian so I'm biased towards Canadian content and since kurnmogh is Canadian, this is an excellent podcast. Best of all, the hosts are an old married couple. Well, okay. Maybe not, but they sure act like it! Power to the #sadmoose!
30 days of WOW
Just finished 30 days of wow. Avid podcast listener I am now up to 30 wow podcast now. So I had to give up some of my non related to wow podcast and many tv shows now. Late to the game. But enjoyed all your podcast info. Fun podcast to listen. I may not understand all info but catching up. Great job.
