Podcast Description
The Enthusiasticast is a weekly webshow (mp3 audio) by two guys mostly about books. Each week we talk about a book we think you should be reading. It doesn’t matter if it’s literary fiction, a genre novel, or non-fiction—it just has to kick a**. We also weigh in on related culture news, plus some movie and comics talk. Episodes are posted every Monday morning and run about 30 minutes. We do spoilers sometimes, but we warn you first. And we swear quite a bit.

ExplicitMax Brooks’ World War Z — Enthusiasticast Episode 81 | Mark endorses Max Brooks' World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. (A note on pronunciation: Mark and I are both Canadian and so pronounce the letter 'Z' as 'zed', however, that completely ruins the wordplay of the title of Brooks' book, so we played along and used the American pronunciation.) We also discussed: Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game (book) Moneyball (movie) Nate Silver Quants Bill James Boomerang by Michael Lewis Margin Call Brad Pitt eating Michael Lewis on Moneyball and Boomerang on The Daily Show District 9 Strictly Ballroom Errol Morris George Romero Milla Jovovich Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide | 4/11/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitChad Harbach’s The Art of Fielding – Enthusiasticast Episode 76 | It's the missing episode 76! Where have you been, young lady? Your father and I were sick with worry. We mention: The National Book Awards The Giller Prize Laura Miller at Salon, on book awards Who the Hell is Arcade Fire? It was the New York Times: when book awards tried to go mainstream. More Laura Miller: can we even agree what makes great literature? Amazon's Best Books of 2011. (In other news: 2011 - still not over at the time of this posting.) Keith Gessen's Vanity Fair article on Chad Harbach I meant Shoeless Joe. I called it The Field of Dreams because who's not more familiar with the movie version. I added the "The" because that's what all the cool kids are doing. The Rock. The God Damn Batman. Everybody. Death in Venice by Thomas Mann. (For the briefest of moments I thought the personal appeal from Wikipedia programmer Brandon Harris was Thomas Mann's author photo. Dissonant!) David Lodge A Separate Peace Paul Quarrington Our discussion of Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad. Evelyn Waugh Jason Kottke loves Gordon Korman's Bruno and Boots.
