A Must Hear For Anyone Who Likes Movies

One of the best current sources for reviews. Adam and Matty - two guys who love film - provide pointed and in-depth commentary that's also incredibly fun to listen to. It's one of those podcasts where you keep clicking refresh waiting for the new episode. The back and forth between the two hosts periodically veers into comic territory as well, so it's listenable for those who just want to know if a film is worth their time. And one of the coolest things about the podcast is the sense of community attached to it. I'd guess most listeners would find themselves hooked on Filmspotting after only an episode or two. In summary - smart, fun, must-hear stuff...

So good that I'll listen even if I don't care about the movie they're discussing

Matty and Adam are good film critics because they're both highly attuned to their own tastes, prejudices, and emotional reactions. It's a pleasure to hear them discuss even movies I don't plan to see because as much as the show is about specific movies, it's also an ongoing study in how to watch cinema. They take film and film criticism very seriously while remaining quick to laugh at themselves and one another. They clearly have a good time doing the show, and it gives the production a friendly, easygoing vibe that sustains even through their most heated disputes. The show's become a significant influence on the movies I see (and how I see movies).

Best Amateur Podcast Going

I listen to a lot of podcasts from NPR, KCRW, the Guardian etc. and the quality of this podcast stands shoulder to shoulder to them. Their film reviews are honest, subjective, personal and entertaining. If they hate or love something, they say so and why they felt that way. It's a nice unique middle ground between the Pauline Kael/Anthony Lane film criticism and the Roger Ebert school of 'thumbs up/thumbs down', # of stars type film review.
