CleanA-OK Mixcast Fourteen: 10 Best Shows of 2011 | It's been quite a year in the A-OK. Some people claimed local music has taken a step back, but it could just be the tall trees have lost their leaves giving the saplings a chance to emerge and grow. ExplicitA-OK DJ Mixtape: 30 minute Ballista Mix | Believe it or not, Kelowna is on the world map for Electronic Dance Music due to its vibrant Dubstep scene. Locals Excision & Datsik have enjoyed massive global popularity in the past two years. Acts like Nero, Rusko, and Skrillex have taken the genre into the mass media and Dubstep is now a household name. Keeping an ear on what is exploding today in Kelowna's Dubstep scene brings us to up-and-comer producer Ballista who has put together a 30 minute mini-mix for us. About a year ago, he made the switch from Heavy Metal drummer to DJ and producer. This mix is a collection of his favorite tracks he has produced over the past few months and is not for the faint-hearted. Expect awesome tunes with heavy sub-bass to bang your head to. October showers mean it's getting colder, but also means we're 9 days away from Pop Okanagan, the music festival replacing BreakOut West. To get you excited about the acts coming through, we spent hours going through the line up, painstakingly narrowing down who to play on this Mixcast for you, but I think we have it! CleanA-OK Mixcast Eleven | Happy September friends! It's normally that type of year we start to throw on pants, maybe a sweater or hoody at dusk, but not here in the Okanagan. We've been blazing the trail with 30 degree weather, unusual even for here. As a September baby myself (26 on the 16th, a-thank you) I'm not complaining, I don't know if I can remember a year when it was this warm for my birthday. As a child, I'd hated when my birthday came around, it felt more like a celebration of school than an actual give-me-gifts kind of thing. I couldn't have the awesome birthdays my July & August friends could; Atlantis Waterslides would be closed for the season, as would Bedrock City, the old Flintstones themed amusement park I still have nostalgic memories of and miss to this day. ExplicitA-OK Mixtape: Big Wet Canadian Summer | Hello and welcome to our most ambitious mix yet! Just in time for May Long (and by that logic, summer) I am proud to present the A-OK Big Wet Canadian Summer Mixtape. Yes, mixtape, just like those of us born in the 80's or earlier used to make for our crushes. This one even comes with two sides, as I'm sure you've put together by looking at the artwork. Now, these songs aren't the newest or latest, but every one of them has felt the delicious kiss of Canadian talent. There are only four non-Canadians on here but it's A-OK because their remixes are!
