Nation Radio - May 26, 2012 | Hands up anyone who picked an LAK/NJD Stanley Cup final heading into the season. Anyone? Bueller? It's been an especially odd post-season, with favorites falling and previously apathetic fanbases awakening suddenly to their team's unexpected success. If the Kings win the cup, as they should, will that victory be met with a bang or a whimper in Los Angeles? To be fair to that city, it has been so long since their team enjoyed any notable success that they can be forgiven if they forgot about hockey for awhile. Allan discussed this and a variety of other topics with Kent Wilson, David Staples, Kirk Luedeke and others on this week's show. This is Nation Radio. Our first guest was David Staples of the Cult of Hockey. David and LT go over Tom Renney's tenure in Edmonton, Anton Lander, the upcoming draft as well as some new area talk. Next up is Nations overlord Kent Wilson. The Flames under Brent Sutter is the main focus and whether he would be a good fit for the Edmonton Oilers. The cup finals and whether Luongo would be a good fit in Toronto are also discussed. Oil Kings PbP voice Corey Graham joined LT to wrap up Oil Kings impressive season and memorial cup performance. Jim Byers of the OKC Barons stopped by and shard his thoughts on the Barons extended playoff run as well as the recent performances of MPS and Teemu Hartikainen. Our final guest this week was Red Line Report's Krik Luedeke. He shares his insights on draft prospects in the New England area including Jimmy Vesey. Nation Radio - May 19, 2012 | In Alberta the off-season has become a question of coaches with both the Flames and Oilers looking to fill vacancies behind the bench. With the NHL playoffs winding down and the Memorial cup firing up, attentions are turning towards prospects and the impending free agent season as well. The guests this week include Jonathan Willis, Tom Lynn and Corey Pronman. They joined Lowetide to talk the above topics and others including hedge fund management strategy, the importance of sustainable lifestyles in the 21st century and the best places to find a good sandwich in Western Canada (not really). This is Nation Radio. First up is Jonathan Willis of OilersNation and the Cult of Hockey. JW looks at the dismissal of Tom Renney, the possibility of Brent Sutter joining the Oilers, the upcoming entry draft and the launch of NHLNumbers. Next we invited player agent Tom Lynn to discuss players and teams heading to the draft as well as the NHL's collective bargaining agreement. Derek Zona, Kent Wilson and others stopped by to talk about how the new site came to be as well as what readers can expect from it down the road. TSN's numbers man and fantasy guru Scott Cullen joins Allan to talk the playoffs, Team Canada in the WHC and the Oilers potential draft choices. In part two, we welcome Oil Kings PbP voice and regular guest Corey Graham. He discusses the WHL finals, including Portland's firepower, the crowds in Edmonton and a "missed" goal call in game 2 of the series. Segment three features an open session and reader emails. Nation Radio - April 28, 2012 | With Lowetide engaging in a hot air balloon race around the world this weekend (the queen herself shall drop the checkered flag!), OilersNation's own Robin Brownlee took the wheel in LT's stead. Joining him this Saturday were all manner of characters and celebrities, including David Staples, Jason Gregor and Oilers defenseman Ryan Whitney. Mr. Brownlee is also the Nation's record holder for banning trolls engaging commenters in lively debate, so give a listen as he braves listener/reader calls and emails. This is Nation Radio. Nation Radio - April 21, 2012 | Aside from the St. Louis Blues who are now home and dry, pretty much all of the favorites heading into the playoffs are on the ropes. It's been a wacky post-season for fans of playoff teams. Luckily the Flames, Leafs and Oilers faithful don't have to deal with such stress - all that's left for them is to sit back, await the draft and continue to pray for a Canucks first round upset (sorry Canucks fans). This week on program we welcomed draft gurus Corey Pronman and Kirk Luedeke to talk prospects, as well Nation regulars Kent Wilson and Jonathan Willis to get a feel for the Flames and Oilers off-season. Nation Radio - April 14, 2012 | As Canucks fans stare into the abyss of a potential first round upset, Oilers fans are left celebrating the only thing the team seems to win these days - the draft lottery. For the third straight year, Edmonton will select first overall in June, meaning the only thing left to debate is whether the club will pick Nail Yakupov or choose to plug other holes on the roster by trading down. To tackle this question and other matters, Allan talked with a number of notable gents yesterday, including player agent Tom Lynn, advanced stats guru Gabriel Desjardins and Oil Kings play-by-play voice Corey Graham. Nation Radio - March 31, 2012 | Because even Lowetide needs a break now and then, we decided to go with a bit of a "best of" clip show this week. Past segments featuring Sean Brown, Todd Nelson and Skip Krake are included. Fret not folks, LT will be back soon to talk about the MPS recall fiasco (amongst other things)... This is Nation Radio. We start things off former Oiler Sean Brown. He dropped by the Nation last fall to talk about his time as an Oiler, his experiences in Europe and what he's been up to recently. From an interview in January, OKC Barons coach Todd Nelson discusses the Oilers farmhands and how they've been doing this season. Famous Vancouver blogger Tom Benjamin appeared on the show back in November. He talked to Allan about Mark Howe, the impact of fighting and the trap. Former NHLer Skip Krake and Lowetide recall Ace Bailey, the WHA and early expansion. Right after the draft and during the early days of free agency last summer, Michael Spiedel dropped by to talk about the Oilers improvement. I enjoy the show. You can't have enough oiler talk. It's so nice to be able to listen to the full show. Thanks to 1260 for making the full shows available as podcasts, it's almost like they know it's 2011, unlike other radio stations.
