| 12 | CleanVideoDynamics PowerCards Make Your Credit Card Smart | The credit card is getting an upgrade. It also won the CES 2012 Innovation award. Jeff Mullen, CEO of Powercards joins us to talk about the Dynamic Credit Card. They just raised over 40 million dollars to create one of the smallest devices ever developed. 70 electrical components in the size of a credit card. This is the world's first card re-programmable mag stripe. Push a button and the card will re-write the data to the magstripe. You can then swipe your card into the reader. It feels like a regular credit card. You can bend it, and put in your wallet. The cards are completely sealed, so they can get wet without issue. The battery will last for up to four years. If you have multiple accounts (personal, business), then you can push a button and your card is a business credit card. Push the other button, it is your personal credit card. After a while, the card can clear off your mag stripe, so you are forced to chose your card type again. Another use of these cards would be Reward points. Push a button, and your card is using your rewards points. There is another card that has a pin code on it. Enter your pin code and the system will put your card info on the mag stripe. After use, the mag stripe will clear, so your card becomes a blank piece of plastic. Finally, Jeff showed us a medical card that will show emergency numbers and other medical information medical professionals may need to keep you alive. The card comes with a card holding case that you put in with your drivers licence. During emergencies, medical professionals look for your ID, then pull out the life card. They get a number which they put into their computers and get important information. The cards do not have a price point. The cards will be announced later in 2012. | 2/29/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

| 14 | CleanVideoPerch: Solution for Chargers Left Behind | Don't Lose Your Charger Road Warriors are famous for multi-tasking on the run. One of the consequences is that they often run out of their hotel rooms or airline business clubs with a variety of chargers left behind - either behind drapes, under desks or in the out-of-the-way places that outlets live. Perch has developed a device that sounds the alarm whenever you depart. It very simply reminds you to take your charger for mobile phone, GPS, radar detector, laptop or other device with you, instead of leaving it behind and coming up short on juice a few hours later. | 17 | CleanVideoGazelle | If you have old gadgets lying around your house, there are a couple things you can do with them, keep them, throw them in the trash, try to sell them on Ebay or Craiglist or you could use Gazelle. Option one isn’t very practical. Option two is bad for the environment and is illegal in most states. Option three can be a hassle. The best option to me is option four, Gazelle. Whenever I have an old gadget I want to sell or get rid of I go to Gazelle. Currently I am waiting for the box to ship my iPad version 1 to them. I am going to get $140.00 for it, which will go toward the purchase of an iPad 3. Gazelle has been around 2006. You can trade in your old gadgets for money or recycle those that aren’t worth anything. Around 95 percent of all items they receive are worth something, the other 3 percent they will recycle properly. They handle products in 23 different categories everything including cellphones, gaming consoles, laptops and mp3 players just to name a few. Gazelle takes data removal very seriously any data that is on the device is removed using the most secure method. Gazelle gets most of their business from people who wanted to get the latest and greatest and trade in their old device. Since the release of the iPhone 4s in Oct they have received over 150,000 iPhones in trade in. They are currently getting ready for the release of the iPad 3. The thing I didn’t know about Gazelle is they have a store, where they sell the items they receive that are in good working order. So when the iPad 3 comes out you maybe able to pick up a iPad 2 for a good price. In fact many people will buy a device from the Gazelle store and then later sell the same device back to Gazelle to get some money. In case you haven’t noticed I am a big fan of Gazelle, so if you have old gadgets you are trying to get rid of you may want to check out Gazelle. | 18 | CleanVideoTVman Wireless DTV Tuner by Dediprog | Do you want to watch over the air TV on your laptop or tablet while traveling, then the TVman Wireless DTV Tuner by Dediprog maybe what you are looking for. It is a digital TV receiver that allows you to watch over the air TV. It transfers the signal to any computer or tablet by Wi-fi. So there are no extra wires to carry around. The cord is the antenna. Because it doesn’t depend on 3G connectivity you get a full high def signal. Unlike other options available now which depend on the 3G signal and are often compressed. Dediprog distributes the product themselves and also through other vendors. They expect to sell it in the US for around $100.00. It is available now in Japan and South America. They hope to have it available in Europe within 3 months and the US by end of the year. Dediprog also showed off a second item which combines the wireless DTV tuner with 3G. The device can be used as a mobile hotspot or a digital TV receiver. Dediprog is trying to build partnerships with various mobile service providers which would provide the 3G connectivity. They also need to get FCC approval for both devices. Both products are small enough to fit into a man’s front pocket. You carry them with you and as long as there is an over the air signal available you can watch TV. Not sure how long the battery last or how far the wi-fi signal travels. I expect you need to be in the same room as the device, but that is an assumption on my part. Both products will works with Android, iOS and Windows. I would love to get a hold of the device to test it, to see what kind of signal it picks up Interview by Todd Cochrane of Geek News Central and Steve Lee of Wave of Tech | 2/26/12 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 19 | CleanVideoFulton Innovation’s Wireless Charging | The great thing about CES is that every now and then an unknown shows off something cool. I'd never heard of Fulton Innovation but they have smart products based around wireless power transmission. Todd learns more about eCoupled from Dave Baarman. Fulton Innovation have developed an inductive coupling solution that scales from simply making a magazine cover light up as you walk past to being able to charge a whole bag of devices without taking them out of the bag. Electric cars could be recharged by parking in the right spot and not by plugging them in. Not all of these products are ready for market just yet, but inductive charging efficiencies are on a par with plug-in chargers though economies of scale are needed to bring the prices down to a point where it's built-in as standard. Palm's Pre range of smartphones used inductive charging with the Touchstone and the Motorola Droid 4 has inductive charging as an option. As a Pre 3 owner, it's brilliant not having to fiddle with cables and I hope more devices come to the market with inductive charging in 2012. | 20 | CleanVideoRocstor AES 256-bit Enctypted Hard Drive | Rocstor has unveiled a new portable external hard drive that practically guarantees that your data won't be stolen. The hard drive, which comes in capacities up to 1 TB, has a slot for a smart card. Enter the card, punch in your code (which you choose), and you unlock the drive and all of the data you have stored on it. The drives are FIP certified and ship with multiple cards. For users that need additional cards, they can be purchased blank and inserted into a unit to be programmed to work with it. PIN Numbers can be changed an unlimited number of times as well. These hard drives are probably not for average consumers, but more for business and government. They are designed to protect highly-sensitive data and eliminate those stories that are always in the news these days about stolen laptops filled with account and credit card information. The drives retail in the $400-600 range and are available now from Rocstor. Interview by Todd Cochrane of Geek News Central for the TechPodcast Network. | 2/26/12 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 21 | CleanVideoSkifta by Qualcomm | Qualcomm which is known for its silicon and wi-fi technology for handsets and tablets is spreading into software and service. One of the consumer products they are currently developing is called Skifta. It is a media shifting platform which works through DLNA-certified and UPnP -compatible devices. DLNA protocol has been around for about eight years. Most TVs today which are over 36 inches and Internet enable are DLNA capable. The Web site of your TV’s manufacture should let you know if your TV is DLNA capable. DLNA is a nonprofit trade organization which enables the sharing of digital media between various consumer devices by defining interoperability guidelines. Because DLNA is a nonprofit organization they don’t have the money to spend on advertising and promotion, so its adoption has been slow but steady. The growth of the Smart or Connected TV market has help to increase its popularity over the last 12-18 months. Its biggest rival is Apple’s Air Play. Qualcomm was showing off its software platform Skifta at CES 2012, which works with the DLNA platform. Think of Skifta as Airplay for Android. Once Skifta is installed on your Android device, it will go out and find any DLNA enabled device including TV’s, computers and the Playstation. You can then sending any media that is available on your network to that device. Skifta also gives you access to various Internet providers including Revision3, Ted Talks, Facebook and others. Qualcomm is also developing a Skifta audio adapter which you attach to a receiver that is not DLNA enable and enable it. They are also making a DLNA platform that can be installed easily by the manufacture into a receiver. I installed the Skifta application on my Android phone and it almost immediately connected and found the media on my network. Once I set up an account it also let me pick up media from Revision3 and Ted Talks among others. Unfortunately I don’t have a connected TV, so for me its use is limited, but I love its possibilities. | 22 | CleanVideoYale Locks Brings High Tech to the Common Door | Yale has new home door locks that bring a high-tech flare to your house. These aren't your average doorsets - they have touch-screens and smartphone apps. You can buy the locks alone from many retailers, like Amazon, however, they are big with custom installers of home security systems. Now they have introduced NFC (near field communication) to their locks. That means you don't need a key or a code. Your phone alone can unlock the door just by being close to it. If you are worried about your phone being lost or stolen then you can set up a secondary line of security such as a pass code. You can also revoke a mobile key via the web site if a phone gets lost. In addition, you can assign a separate code to each person in your home and even have the lock send you a text when someone passes through the door. Yale Locks are available on the market today, and the ones with NFC technology will be arriving soon. Prices and availability have not yet been determined. You can find out more at Yale. | 23 | CleanVideoVertix Wireless Helmet Communication | Wireless communication has been around for several years in the sport of professional bicycle racing. Team managers use it communicate back and forth with their riders during races. Vertix has it's own wireless communication solution, but this one is added into motorcycle helmets. The Vertix hardware comes in a couple of different styles so that it can be used with both full-face and open-face helmets. Both the speaker and microphone can be easily mounted to almost any helmet. | 24 | CleanVideoDuracell is Bringing Wireless Charging Everywhere | Duracell is starting in one the mecca's of sports, Madison Square Garden, in their pursuit to build a network of wireless charging everywhere you go. They will be partnered with some 2013 cars and envision a future of airports, coffee shops, and more where your devices will just charge wirelessly simply by being there in that location. Partnered with Proctor and Gamble, Duracell is perhaps the first to tackle this market, and they are in it in a big way with lots of expansion plans. Your phone won't just magically charge by being present in a location, though. There will be Powermat stations available in locations where you will likely spend an extended period of time, like coffee shops, bars, and the like. They also plan a Google Maps app that will show you charging locations in your area. In fact, eventually they envision the Powermat technology built right into new devices with no case necessary. | 28 | CleanVideoMobile Content Venture: Live TV on the Go with Dyle | Somewhere in the back of a closet in a box, I have a portable TV. I use to carry it with me when I went camping or to a ball game. If I wanted to watch TV would simply turn it on and pull out the antenna and I was ready to go. Unfortunately when everything went digital, the TV became useless. Mobile Content Venture has joined with Samsung and Metro PCS, the 5th largest wireless carrier to bring mobile live TV back to the US consumer. The handset is made by Samsung and has an embedded mobile E. DTV tuner. Mobile Content Venture created the software application called Dyle which allows you to watch live TV over the device. Once the device is released in the US it will be available in 14 cities. They hope to expand to up to 32 cities. Depending on your location you can receive up to 6 channels including ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS and ION. You can also use Twitter, Facebook on the device. If you already have a iOS device, then you might want to consider a Belkin accessory. This is a small dongle which connects to your iOS device using the 30 pin connector. Normally you would need an antenna to watch live TV however Belkin and Mobile Content Venture have developed a way around that problem by making the headphones the antenna. When you are ready to watch TV, just hit the Dyle application and you are ready to go. At this time there is no pricing or availability date for the US for either of these two devices. The Dyle application will be free and available from the iOS store. Interview by Todd Cochrane of Geek News Central and Interview by Jeffrey Powers of Geekazine | 2/24/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

| 30 | CleanVideoNothing But Nets – A surprising visit to our booth | Todd and Steve get a surprise visit from a funny bug with a serious message. Even though it was Friday afternoon, and everyone was a bit punchy (including the tricaster operator in the studio) they managed to get the word out on this very important issue. Nothing but Nets is a charity that sends mosquito nets to people in Africa. In Africa 1000's of people die of mosquito-born illness. | 31 | CleanVideoIEEE Gives a Look Behind Today’s Tech | IEEE, the commonly used abbreviation for the Institute for Electronics and Electrical Engineers, dropped by the TPN booth last month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to chat a bit about what is going on with the organization right now. IEEE.org looks at all aspects of today's technology, but also helps to set standards for some of it. You may have seen their logo on some products, but they have their hands on a lot more than you may realize, like 3D for instance. They also offer a lot of conferences on a broad range of topics and a large digital library that is open to the public. In addition, they also work with people to ensure the technical accuracy of papers and documentation before publication. The video below is a fascinating, but technical, look behind the scenes. If you are interested by how this industry works, though, it's worth checking out. Interview by Todd Cochrane of Geek News Central for the TechPodcast Network. | 2/24/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

| 35 | CleanVideoSnoball: Set Triggers to Donate to Non-Profit Charities | If you are a non-profit, this is a great way to get donations. People would log on to Snoball and integrate giving tp charities of your choice. For instance, if you set a goal, you can donate to a cause. These triggers will act when something happens. For instance. I could say: I'll donate $100 if my Twitter followers reach 1,000. When that happens, the trigger is tripped and your account will send the money. This can work with a business - after so many Foursquare check-ins, a business could donate to their charity. There is also a cap, just in case the Snoball goes viral. You don't want to break the bank. There are over 1.6 million nonprofits to send donations to. These are 501C and 170C non-profits, as registered by the government. Start a Snoball, Share a Snoball and see the good. For instance, there is a Snoball right now that when Jeremy Lin scores, someone is donating 5 cents to Garden of Dreams Foundation. They are working on defined categories, but you can definitely search for local charities to give money to. There is no "random" option, but Snoball does feature charities that you could get behind. This is all tax deductible. You can get a report at the end of the year who you gave money to. | 41 | CleanVideoGunnar Digital Performance Eyewear | Gunnar's digital performance eyewear is a range of spectacles designed for people who spend too much time in front of a screen. Typically stylish and yellow-lensed, Todd occasionally wears a pair of Gunnars while doing the GNC show. Joe Croft dropped in to show off the latest specs and Gunnar currently has a four-way line-up with Advanced Computer, Advanced Gaming, Premium 3D and Advanced Outdoor eyewear. As you might guess, three out of the four are primarily for indoor use only. The Advanced Computer eyewear is for those people who use computer screens all day and the glasses help with the typical symptoms of prolonged computer use, such as a lowering in the blink rate leading to dry eyes, tired eye muscles from short range focussing and poor light quality from fluorescent lights. The technology in Gunnar glasses addresses each of those issues to make the eyes more comfortable while using a computer screen. The new Spring 2012 collection is now out at Gunnars. Prices from $80 - $300 for standard lenses. Budget up to $700 for custom prescription lenses from Zeiss. | 42 | CleanVideoGuardian Trace for Your iOS Device | Guardian means security, but a new company called Baytan labs is taking that security into the mobile world with the Guardian Trace for iOS devices. It works with your device's contacts list and can be set up to send easy alerts if you find yourself in a bad situation. A countdown is begun if you fail to deactivate with your PIN and when it reaches 0 an alert is sent to the contact(s) of your choice via both email and text stating that you have failed to check in from whatever event you enabled, such as a jog or date. The alert will also include your last known location. The app can also be used on an iPod, which, if you are going for a run, is useful, since that is a common device to carry along. The app also has a simple "Send Panic Alert" button so if a situation unexpectedly arises you can quickly send a message for help. The app is currently free, although that will apparently change later when some premium services will become available. It is currently only available for iOS devices and you can find out more by visiting Baytan Labs. | 43 | CleanVideoDiamond Wireless Range Extender and Set-Top Box Preview | I remember building a PC many years ago and at that time, Diamond Multimedia was one of *the* graphics card companies. I even seem to remember that it was VL-bus card, so that dates it to a pre-Pentium era. Anyway, it's great to see that Diamond is still around when so many others have fallen by the wayside. Todd interviews Louis Kokenis from Diamond Multimedia on the latest products. The Diamond Wireless Range Extender has three functions in one. First, it's a wireless repeater that eliminates deadspots in wireless coverage. Second, it's a wireless bridge that will connect a wired network device to the wireless network and third, it's a standalone wireless access point, creating wireless hotspot from a single network point. With regard to the last mode, the WR300N's small size means that it's great for travelling and creating a wireless network in a hotel room. On-sale now for around $60. Diamond will be introducing an Android-based TV set-top box that combines web browser, media player, ebook reader, game console, anything that can be downloaded from the Android Market. It won't be tied to any particular media provider as it will either be able to download an app, e.g. Netflix, or else it will be able to browse to any website and play media directly. Sounds cool, especially if it runs ICS. Interview by Todd Cochrane of Geek News Central and Steve Lee of NetCast Studio for the TechPodcast Network. | 2/19/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The VioSphere is a touch-screen monitor that has a built-in web-cam and microphone to allow you to video-conference while you are watching that big game on the other half of your screen. It's like the old picture-in-picture TV features, which allows you to watch both or go full-screen with one or the other. It functions like an all-in-one PC with a DVD burner also built-in. While it runs on the Windows platform they also are partnered with Bluestacks to include Android apps as well. It also comes with a wireless keyboard and built-in WiFi. As for the TV end of things, it just takes a normal coax input. The VioSphere comes in a wide range of sizes spanning 21" (although their website states the low end at 32") all the way up to 65". A price point isn't given in the video, but you can learn a lot more info on the product. You can also visit Nyxio online for additional information. | 52 | CleanVideoMWE Lab – The Emperor Strikes Back | Geeks the world over would have left CES this year with tiny holes in their artificial hearts if we here at F5 Live had not stumbled across something like the Emperor 1510 to plug the hole and thankfully MWE Lab delivered. With the growing dominance of mobile technology that suggests you have places to go and things to do it's always nice to find gadgets that make you not want to leave your home or office. Here's why the Emperor 1510 does exactly that. Gianni Martinez was nice enough to talk to us and give us a hands on demonstration despite the fact that he was about to keel over from exhaustion (just like me). Designed to be an ergonomic work station, it's purpose it straightforward. Create an environment where the user has easy access to the technology they require and allow them to leverage its use in a way that maximizes the user's performance. I had a chance to try it out myself and even though I was only able to experience it for a short time, it does seem that 10-12 hour shifts would pass by rather quickly and comfortably. Take into consideration the amount of time and energy we invest into using our computers and a $6,200 investment in yourself is a small price to pay over the long run. Check out our video below and as always leave your questions and comments so we can sure you stay as plugged in as possible to this years CES 2012 news! | 53 | CleanVideoCorsair – Classic Gaming Peripherals Done Right | Visiting the Corsair booth gave us a look some powerful gaming peripherals that will certainly have your opponents rage quitting in no time. Corsair had two new keyboards, two new mice and three new headsets for us to play with this year at CES. The key thing to note at Corsair is that the devices are designed by gamers for gamers. Everyone at Corsair has the passion and drive to make gaming a better and more enjoyable experience for the consumer and everything that the designers do and put together at Corsair is done with honest care. It's something you rarely see in manufacturing anymore and was certainly refreshing to see when we got to talk to some of the designers. Starting with the 90 Series, they are optimized for MMO and RTS games that require a lot of actions per minute or macros recorded to specific keys. The 60 Series are designed for first-person shooters. Both sets of keyboards have the Cherry MX Red keys, which allow very light, precise touches and triple taps for the hardcore gamers. Each of the mice also come with 5700 DPI, however feature adjustable, on-the-fly DPI options for your needs per game. The cool thing about the M60 is that the mouse has a "sniper" button, which drops your DPI immediately to 800 (default) in order to scan, acquire and then take out your enemies. It gives you the option to keep your movements natural and not have to be twitchy when you play your FPS. On the M90, it has 9 macro programmable buttons, however the buttons are placed in a way so that your thumb does not hit them or accidentally trigger a macro. This allows you to not have to disengage some of them because they are simply in the way. Now, while you can have the best keyboard and mouse on the market, you still need to hear what's happening around you and Corsair has crafted some gaming headsets that do not overwhelm you with over-enhanced bass. The Vengeance 1100, 1300 and 1500 are here to offer several options for gamers that have different budgets. With Corsair, all you need is motherboard, CPU and video card and you can get everything else you need for your computer from them. For all our gamers out there, Corsair is definitely worth checking out for your gaming needs. Interview by Nicholas DiMeo of F5 Live for the TechPodcast Network. | 2/16/12 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 54 | CleanVideoZimri Speakers – Small and Mighty | Ever wanted a small and compact Bluetooth portable speaker for your smartphone or MP3 player but always found that they came up a little short when it came down to how loud or powerful they were? Zimri Speakers has solved that problem. The smallest speaker rocks not only the Bluetooth option but also an 1/8" input and can pump the tunes for 6-8 hours on only a 2 hour charge. The sound volume is very amazing for its size, too, and it's something you have to hear to believe. We also got to see a prototype of a larger Zimri speaker with a microSD slot and a much larger and louder bass response that is meant to act as a standalone MP3 player if wanted, but can also still connect via Bluetooth. Finally, a cube speaker we saw rattling across the table was explained and we learned that it has a super-enlarged bass driver yet still does not have the distortion you'd expect in a device of its nature. This one, too, has a microSD slot and volume controls on the bottom of the device and they are recessed. We also got to see a charging solution battery pack, in both 3,000 and 6,000 mAH capacities. These chargers have two USB slots, with one being a rapid charger and go hand-in-hand with the speakers that they have. Take a look at the video for a Bluetooth test on the little speaker that goes over 40 yards across the convention hall without losing signal! | 55 | CleanVideoShogun Bros – A Twist on PC Gaming | Shogun Bros. was nominated for a CES Design & Engineering Award this year for their X-1 combination mouse, gamepad and demonstration device. Only using 1 AAA battery to power it, you can switch between the optical mouse pointer, gamepad and thumb control-based laser pointer with ease. Other than the fact that this thing will control three important parts of your life all in one tool, the other cool thing here is that they have partnered up with Assassin's Creed to deliver customized versions of their X-1. These premium mice are available in Altair White & Ezio Grey and sport a genuine leather look. In other nifty gaming products, a keyboard and mouse set is sure to tickle your taster as the keyboard is compact, yet still comes with everything you'd expect on a full-size keyboard and the mouse supports an option for quick trigger as well as 5700 DPI. | 56 | CleanVideoSennheiser – High Quality Headphones | We couldn't go to CES this year and not catch up with our pals from Sennheiser and talk to our good friend Eric Palonen for another session of what's happening in the audio world. Eric, although not decked out in the Adidas gear this year, talked with us about three products that were unveiled this year. Starting with the product that was being slowly uncovered on Facebook in the month leading to CES, the audiophile in all of us let out a cheer when Sennheiser announced their HD 700. They are bringing a brand new sound to you by having the sound hit your ears at an angle, which provides a wider sound stage. By adding a noise-dampening frame across the entire headphone, they are able to bring pure, natural noise to your ears like never before. The HD 700 is perfect for the mastering engineer or the person who wants audio playback that is actually a representation of what was recorded without bass or mid-range enhancements. We then got to see the HD 800, which looks like something out of Tron but with every design element being functional and purposeful. The 56mm transducer is the largest in a production headphone, is placed inside a larger, yet thinner earcup. The thinness does not mean the set is uncomfortable, though, as the headphones come with two sets of swivel points and microfiber cushions. These are perfect for the audiophile who has $1,500 to spend on a set. On the more affordable side, for $350 Sennheiser has the Imperior series, based off the HD 25. The Imperior is made for the portable audio market, in that it enhances the music the best way with the loudest output without the need for a battery. It comes with an Apple in-line remote and mic adapter but is still made to work on any smartphone and MP3 player with a standard 1/8" terminal. All in all, good stuff out of Sennheiser this year and we're excited to see them making headphones for all types of people and price ranges. | 57 | CleanVideoPrize Monkey – Rewards for Fun | Seeing a big, yellow vending machine in the middle of the convention floor is sure to make anyone stop and wonder what it is. Upon closer review, a large LCD screen with a monkey on it further peaked my curiosity. Naturally, we had to talk with Brad Thorne, co-founder of Prize Monkey to give us some insight on what the project was about. Prize Monkey is based off the idea that people love free stuff and the instant gratification that goes along with it, specifically when you use your mobile device. Using their "un-kiosk" and the cloud, users can interact with the monkey on the screen and impact his actions based off of input from their phones or tablets. Prize Monkey looks to partner up with different companies who create different promotional products to appeal specific demographics. For CES 2012, Prize Monkey created a small demonstration of their product and by using an iPad, you go to the site, enter your email address and you will earn some "bananas" that you can then tap on to redeem a prize from the vending machine, in this case it was a small table hockey toy. Of course, the natural extension is making loyalty points important again and Prize Monkey looks to venture into supermarkets and even sports stadiums. There is some definite potential here if the right companies want to get on board and turn common social interactions into exposure for their brands. | 58 | CleanVideoFulton Innovation – Wireless Power Consortium | This was by far Nick's favorite thing at CES 2012. Fulton Innovation has decided to get ahead of the companies wanting wireless inductive charging and has joined the Wireless Power Consortium and has teamed up to create the Qi (pronounced "chee") Standard using their E-Couple technology to unite the world and cut that final cord that ties us all down. Motorola, Sharp, Energizer, LG and Samsung join the list of over 80 companies that will allow interoperability across their devices and chargers, which will allow consumers to charge essentially any compatible device (with the option to retrofit) on their desk, in their office or even in their car, because at the end of the day, it's all about convenience. The idea for wireless charging doesn't only extend to the phone sector. All mobility is looking to get some love as tablets and laptops can also be made to do the same thing. You can purchase an adapter module, bolt it under a table and you have wireless charging whereever you want it. Imagine setting a blender on a spot in your kitchen and it charges with no wires. Then, using the same spot on your induction range compatible top, cooking with a pan that can go from boiling to simmering using autonomous functions. For the ladies, you could have a designer bag with charging capabilities so your phone doesn't have to be taken out to plug it in. The possibilities are endless and we've mentioned it throughout our CES coverage on our shows which you can find here. | 59 | CleanVideoCanon – HD For All | Being avid Canon fans and users ourselves at F5 Live, you could imagine our excitement to see what cool camcorders were in store for us this year at CES. In speaking with Ben Thomas at Canon, we learned that six new Vixia video cameras have made their way to market, in both the M series and R series. The M series, the higher end of the two model lines, features built-in WiFi, severl new menu enhancements, a new image stabilizer called Intelligent IS and a 20% increased low-light performance than that of its predecessor. New this year to Canon is their driven focus on the ability to share the content you create. Before, it was extremely easy to produce content but getting it to your friends and family could sometimes be a chore. With Canon now moving to native mp4 support on top of its AVCHD file format, users can now get those files onto the web fast. Helping that cause is their new app called Movie Uploader, which is currently available on the computer and Apple devices. By using the app (or plugging it straight into the computer and hopping onto Canon's site), you can share and upload any video you'd like to Facebook, YouTube or as an attachment in no time. For the R series, these entry level models now pack a punch as they too include built-in WiFi. However, here's where consumers looking for a new camera need to pull the trigger. These little guys have a 32x optical zoom and still have the Intelligent IS so you can zoom to your heart's content. Oh, and it also has a mic jack, headphone jack and is DLNA capable. Add that to a pricepoint of $349-$549 and you have a Canon camera that become your best friend forever. Interview by Nicholas DiMeo of F5 Live for the TechPodcast Network. | 60 | CleanVideoCalifornia Audio Technology – Top-of-the-Line Speakers | High above the Vegas Strip in the Venetian Hotel during CES 2012, we found audio company CAT, or California Audio Technology. They are a high-end consumer audio company that has been in business for 22 years and recognizes that while there may be a decline in the economy, people aren't skimping out on good, professional quality audio components for their homes or recreational vehicles. What makes these audio products different from the rest in their market is the top of the line materials used in the components. President and Co-founder Brian Barr jumped into details and said that their loudspeaker enclosures are made of Corian, Avanite, stainless steel, concrete, marble and/or granite. These are the same materials you'd find in the aerospace industry or even in a race car. For the actual speaker components, these 120 pound beasts boast an high-grade aluminum cone, the largest neodymium magnet on the back of the driver and a solid copper faceplug, perfect for dissipating heat.
