Its Good!
Certainly one of the better local radio talk shows, especially during these hours in Vancouver. Good's panel guests, such as the previously mentioned "Cutting Edge of the Ledge" is informative stuff and handled with the sort of level headed thought that other talk radio shows you may have heard don't have. The show's segments usually stick to a half an hours worth before they jump to another topic but it never feels rushed. Good himself is a more than able moderator and appropriately doesn't sit on the fence, especially when he's accused of playing sides by a confused or irate caller.
Rick Forchuk a longtime CKNW personality I'm sad to say seems like the only stale inclusion on Good's show. Callers may ask on his weekly appearance if certain films are available or questions about television programming and one sense's that he's flipping back and forth between IMBD.com and google. In fact, in one recently show when asked if the Ian Dury biopic would be available in Canada he recommeded to the caller he just "google it" because that's what he does. In the days before the internet Forchuk's knowledge or tips may have been helpful, now that we see the wizard behind the curtain has no special knowledge than we do and all he's doing its googling, one is left to wonder why he's still around or if they can't find another blogger or film buff who's got a little more accurate and insider information when it comes to these things. I can only suspect because he works for chicken feed or that he's a nice guy the gang at the station like to keep him around.
Thankfully Good's audience is mostly bereft of the breadheads who can occasionally call into these shows. (Ottawa listeners who know of Lowell Green's show know they can surprisingly experience a solid array of poorly spoken local yokels who phone into Green's show)
This rates 4 stars as four stars mean "its Good" on iTunes ratings. Which seems apropos. The podcast version of the show does not get uploaded as timely as it should but that may be iTunes fault more that Corus Radio's for all we know.
Bill Good Show - Excellent Listening, Particularly for Political Coverage
I love listening to the Bill Good Show. My favourite show is Friday morning's "Cutting Edge at the Leg". Vaugh Palmer, Keith Baldry and Bill Good together are excellent, unbiased political commentary and listening. I have yet to find another pair and host who review political topics so well without choosing sides, truly just reporting on the events. My second favourite show is Friday morning's "Rick's Picks". I love how honest and fair Rick is about his reviews. He'll tell you a review with some real meat on it, why he liked or did not like something, and what I really respect is how he'll let you know a film is not his favourite genre but that he thinks someone who enjoys that subject will enjoy it or not. That, to me, is the mark of a good journalist.
Great show...when it
Quality show! Cutting edge of the ledge, Rick's Picks, Monday Morning Quarterbacks, Civil Affairs...and Bill good himself. All quality information and worth listening to.
But for some reason the people at CKNW are very poor getting their own word out. It is often behind a few days, labeled incorrectly, uploaded incorrectly (wrong episode), short changed on time, or just not at all there. In a business that operates a on strict time schedule where the next news story comes "when it happens" and "being the first with the information" is king...they drop the ball big time on this one. 4 out of 5 stars.
Please fix it!
**UPDATE**
It has been a year later now and things have not changed much in re: to the podcast. Great quality... IF you can download it.
