GI Show 111: Spec Ops: The Line, Dragon's Dogma, Ghost Recon | The GI Show kicks off with an interview with Spec Ops: The Line writer Walt Williams, who discusses the game's ambitious storytelling which gives players a wide range of moral choice. Williams and the team were inspired by such cinematic classics as Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket, and hope Spec Ops will provide a darker, more conflicted view of modern-day war. In the second segment, host Matt Helgeson is joined by Jeff Cork, who reviewed Dragon's Dogma, an interesting take on the action/RPG genre. The game's combat is more complex than you'd expect and there are a few other interesting design elements worth discussing. Finally, longtime series fan Matt Bertz stops by to talk about his review for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, the lastest in the storied tactical shooter series. GI Show 110: Diablo III, Max Payne 3, Minecraft | Two of the biggest releases of 2012 dropped this week. Listen in as we break down the latest from Blizzard and Rockstar, and stick around for Minecraft 360 impressions. In the first segment, Adam Biessener and Matt Miller join host Matt Helgeson to discuss Diablo III's troubled launch and amazing gameplay. While our review hasn't posted yet, suffice it to say that the gang is pretty excited about this one. Next up is a discussion of Max Payne 3, the return of Rockstar's venerable noir shooter. Andy Reiner, Tim Turi, and Ben Reeves sing the praises of the game's expert storytelling and finely honed gunplay. Finally, as promised, reviewer Jeff Cork is back in the office so we break down last week's release of Minecraft on Xbox Live. Joe Juba, Dan Ryckert, and Jeff Marchiafava also drop by to give their impressions of the latest version of Mojang's phenomenon. Host Matt Helgeson is back to defend his title, and is joined by judge Ben Hanson, Tim Turi, Ben Reeves, and a special appearance by GI bigwig Andy McNamara. The game doesn't quite go as planned, thanks to a stunning performance by one of the contestants. Who's the secret trivia genius at GI? The answer may surprise you. These trivial antics are followed up by a more serious segment, in which reviewer Jeff Marchiafava drops in to break down his review of Starhawk, a new PS3-exclusive spiritual sequel to Warhawk. GI Show 107: Trivia Challenge, Apple Console, Trials Evolution | This week's Game Informer podcast is something a little different: our first Back Cover Blurb Trivia Challenge game show! Our resident video auteur Ben Hanson came up with idea and takes the reins from host Matt Helgeson to referee this raucous contest. Here's how it works: Ben selected a random assortment of games from the GI Vault, took pictures of the back covers with his iPhone, and then reads off the back cover blurb (censoring out any proper names or references to the title). Contestants Matt Helgeson, Kyle Hilliard, Dan Ryckert, and Tim Turi then buzz in and try to guess the name of the game. It's something different for the show, so please let us know if you like it in the comments below. The next two segments are a bit more traditional, give or take the contributions of Ben Reeves. In segment two, Andy Reiner and Ben stop by to discuss the Apple console rumors with Matt, followed by a one-on-one session with Dan Ryckert, who gives you the inside details on the XBLA hit Trials Evolution. GI Show 106: Captivate 2012, Fez, PAX East | This week, the Game Informer Show weighs in on two major game media events and a groundbreaking new platformer. First up is our reaction to Capcom's Captivate 2012 press event. The venerable Japanese publisher debuted Lost Planet 3, and showed some new footage of the Devil May Cry reboot and Resident Evil 6. Host Matt Helgeson is joined by Andy Reiner and GI's Capcom nut Tim Turi. Listen in to hear a fully nude Tim break down the byzantine backstory of the RE series from memory. It's impressive! Next up, Matt Miller stops by to talk about Phil Fish's Fez. This might look like just another retro, downloadable platformer, but it's far more than that. This game's perspective-shifting puzzles are truly mindblowing, making this one of the best downloadable games to come down the line since Braid and Super Meat Boy. Finally, Dan Ryckert checks in with his impressions of the PAX East convention. PAX has become a major event, and there were a lot of high profile releases on display at the show. Dan runs down all his impression (and details some of his hijinks at the show and his terrorizing of the greater Boston metro area). Respec Radio Ep. 29: Guild Wars 2 With Designer Jonathan Sharp | Two things make this a very special edition of Respec Radio: our guest, Guild Wars 2 designer Jonathan Sharp of ArenaNet, and the last appearance of Phil Kollar as an editor at Game Informer. You'll have to do without Andy McNamara's customary ranting this week, but we like to think that Sharp's commentary on every corner of Guild Wars 2 from character creation to the unique event system and the epic "world vs. world" battles that pit entire servers against each other in open world PvP makes up for it. Check back to gameinformer.com later this week for a video preview of Guild Wars 2 featuring Sharp taking us through a never-before-seen PvP arena and more, and head to the Respec Radio hub or our iTunes RSS feed for more MMO-related snark than any one person really needs. Happy trails, Phil. (Please visit the site to view this media) | 4/10/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

GI Show 104: Mass Effect Controversy, Review Round-Up | It's not often that we revisit a recently released game on the GI Show, but with the furor over the ending to Mass Effect 3 raging throughout the Internet, we thought we should weigh in on fans' complaints about the game's ending, the recently filed FTC complaint, and BioWare's statement that it will be addressing player concerns with new content. Sitting in on this segment with host Matt Helgeson is Phil Kollar and Joe Juba, who have some strong opinions about these recent events. In the second segment, Dan Ryckert, Tim Turi, and Jeff Cork stop by to talk about a trio of new releases: Kid Icarus: Uprising, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, and Ninja Gaiden 3. GI Show 103: Silent Hill, Journey, Japanese Game Industry | Another week, another show, and we've got a good one. In our first segment, we've got one of the year's most critically acclaimed games -- thatgamecompany founder Jenova Chen's Journey. It's not like anything you've ever played before, and this dreamlike game is generating a deep emotional response from those who experience it. Matt Miller, who's been following the game and reviewed it for Game Informer, stops by to tell host Matt Helgeson why this is a title you should not miss. Next up, Tim Turi breaks down a pair of interesting games, Silent Hill: Downpour and I Am Alive. While he's a bit disappointed in Silent Hill, it sounds like Ubisoft's I Am Alive has overcome its troubled development cycle to become something really special. Finally, we have a small roundtable featuring Phil Kollar and Matt Bertz to discuss the state of the Japanese game industry. After some controversial statements about the country's game industry were made at the Game Developer's Conference, many are question the future of Japanese game publishing. Can the country stage a comeback? We delve into the reasons behind its slump and the possible ways out of it. (Please visit the site to view this media) | 3/15/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

GI Show 102: Mass Effect 3, SSX, Street Fighter X Tekken | It's been Mass Effect 3 week around the Game Informer offices, and our podcast follows suit. Host Matt Helgeson is joined by Joe Juba, Matt Miller, and reviewer Andy Reiner for a lengthy discussion of BioWare's Mass Effect 3. What follows is a (mostly) spoiler-free discussion of the game's incredible depth, dramatic storytelling, and surprising co-op multiplayer. Next up was a game we neglect last week because of our Naughty Dog special edition podcast -- EA's reboot of the SSX franchise. Longtime SSX fans Phil Kollar and Kyle Hilliard have mixed feelings about the game, and break down its strengths and weaknesses in an interesting segment. Finally, reviewer Jeff Cork and GI's resident fighting game expert Jason Oestreicher have an enthusiastic discussion about Street Fighter X Tekken.
