ExplicitLAMBcast #116: Franchise look-back: Jurassic Park | From Steven Spielberg to Joe Johnston, from Jeff Goldblum to Vince Vaughn, from the Park itself to San Diego (thank god that music was there the whole time, right?) - it's another franchise look-back here on the LAMBcast. Dan Heaton sat in the host chair for the first time, leading the discussion of the trilogy, and was joined by Fogs, Lindsay, Mike and Ryan. Also on tap: * Rants of the Week * Raves of the Week * Last LAMB Standing A couple notes: * The show can be found, of course, via iTunes - just do a search for "LAMBcast." Also, I always post a link to the show on the LAMBcast's Facebook page, and there's a player there if you'd like to listen online. * Shows will eventually make their way to the LAMBcast Archives. If you'd ever like to catch up on back episodes, go there. * If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums. Music provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service. Opening song by Cake. The LAMBcast loves feedback, too - if you'd like yours read on a future show, leave it in the comments section at the LAMB. Please visit and like our Facebook page, and finally, we're on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it's a bad one. Thanks for listening! | 5/26/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitLAMBcast #115: Roll Your Own Top 5 | What's your favorite superhero movie moment? What's the best depiction of God onscreen? Do you know who Clifton Collins, Jr. is? Have you heard of and/or seen 8 Women? These questions and many more were asked and answered on this episode of the LAMBcast, as Dylan, Nick, The Vern and Max got together to compile some (hopefully) interesting Top 5 lists. ExplicitMovie of the Month/LAMBcast #114: Heathers | Released in 1988, Heathers was not only a product of its time but perhaps a bit ahead of it as well. The pitch-black comedy starred Winona Ryder (soon to hit the big time with Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands) and Christian Slater (also early in his career) as a pair of young lovers intent on creating some chaos at their high school. Although it wasn't a hit at the time, it was a unique enough vision to gain a cult following over the years, though strangely enough, it's creators ended up doing much more commercial work-for-hire jobs thereafter. The LAMB's own The Vern Championed the film to a bravura performance at the MOTM Polls last month, and as you'll be able to tell from his words on the accompanying LAMBcast, he's quite the fan. But first, here's the IMDb summary for the film, for those that aren't familiar with it: "Veronica mingles with Heather I, II and III to be as popular as them, even though she hates them. She hates them enough to wish they were dead, though she would never want to be their cause of death. When she starts dating Jason Dean, however, she finds herself involved in the murders of most of her enemies, covered up as suicides. " Now, let's see what your fellow LAMBs had to say about it. Thanks to all of the LAMBs that sent in their posts for this edition of the MOTM. * Cinematic Paradox * Foolish Blatherings * No More Popcorn * The Warning Sign It's also time to vote on next month's movie. Once again, I put out the call for MOTM Champions. The gist is this: I ask for volunteers - people to select a film to be placed on the poll (up to 10 per month, as usual), then promote it on their site, Facebook, Twitter, whatever. Should their film win, they are guaranteed a spot on the LAMBcast episode where we will discuss said film. As a bonus (?), they will also get to host that segment of the show. Also, Joel likes me to mention that if you happen to campaign for your selection on your blog, he'd be happy to put up a Plug for it on the LAMB. This month, we had seven Champions - the sites are listed along with the films in the poll below. You have one week to vote (and promote your movies!). I'll be putting out the call for the next MOTM in a few weeks, so stay tuned. As we do every month, the LAMBcast is tied in with the MOTM. This month, as mentioned, our Champion The Vern from The Vern's Videovanguard hosted the Heathers discussion (on his first-ever podcast, no less!) in which we talked up and down the film, covering (we hope) all of the important themes and talking points. He were joined by LAMBcast host Dylan, as well as Fogs and Sam. Also on tap: * Rants and Raves of the Week * Last LAMB Standing A couple notes: * The show can be found, of course, via iTunes - just do a search for "LAMBcast." ExplicitLAMBcast #113: LAMBpardy! #5 | "This....is...LAMBpardy!" Once again, Kai puts on his Alex Trebek hat (that's a beautiful visual if you know the man) to play host for our version of Jeopardy. Back in the champ chair is Dylan, being challenged by the two head honcho (honchettes?) of French Toast Sunday, Lindsay and Jess. Did they take his title? Listen and find out! LAMBpardy episopdes are a semi-regular feature of the LAMBcast, so if you'd like to be a player in the future, keep an eye out over at the Forums, as demand is high and there's a max of three contestants per show (and one of them is the returning champ). Also on tap: * Rants of the Week * Raves of the Week * Last LAMB Standing A couple notes: * Due to Podomatic bandwidth calculation, I've gotten rid of the embeddable player that is usually included with these posts. The show can be found, of course, via iTunes - just do a search for "LAMBcast." Also, I always post a link to the show on the LAMBcast's Facebook page, and there's a player there if you'd like to listen online. * Shows will eventually make their way to the LAMBcast Archives. ExplicitLAMBcast #112: Whatcha Been Watchin' Lately? | My apologies to Jessica, Tom, Steve, and Nick - they've probably almost forgotten that we even recorded this episode, it feels so long since we did it (if some of the Rants or Raves seem a bit outdated, now you know why). Anyway, our feature discussion is one that can't grow moldy, as we each took a look back at a recent viewing that we wished to discuss. On top of that, we present you with one of the lengthier and more spirited Rants sections that we've had in some time. Lots of anger to be dealt with! Also on tap: * Rants of the Week * Raves of the Week * Last LAMB Standing A couple notes: * Due to Podomatic bandwidth calculation, I've gotten rid of the embeddable player that is usually included with these posts. ExplicitMovie of the Month/LAMBcast #111: Inglourious Basterds | Time for me to eat crow. From the onset, I wasn't such a big fan of Inglourious Basterds as a choice for the Movie of the Month - it seeming to be a too recent and too popular film for my particular MOTM tastes. In the end, the die-hard battle between it and Citizen Kane had me more than supporting it as the eventual choice, and I couldn't have been more wrong about my preconceptions of it being chosen. If I do say so myself, it made for an excellent MOTM, leading to a spirited LAMBcast discussion - led by Lindsay and Nick of French Toast Sunday (our MOTM Champions for the month) of the various themes, high points, low points and legacy of Quentin Tarantino's multilingual, multi-genre "masterpiece." As usual, I give you the IMDb summary for the film, for those few unfortunate souls that aren't familiar with it: "In Nazi occupied France, young Jewish refugee Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the slaughter of her family by Colonel Hans Landa. Narrowly escaping with her life, she plots her revenge several years later when German war hero Fredrick Zoller takes a rapid interest in her and arranges an illustrious movie premiere at the theater she now runs. With the promise of every major Nazi officer in attendance, the event catches the attention of the "Basterds", a group of Jewish-American guerilla soldiers led by the ruthless Lt. Aldo Raine. As the relentless executioners advance and the conspiring young girl's plans are set in motion, their paths will cross for a fateful evening that will shake the very annals of history." Now, let's see what your fellow LAMBs had to say about it. Thanks to all of the LAMBs that sent in their posts for this edition of the MOTM. * A Swede Talks Movies * Cinematic Corner * Cinematic Paradox * Commentary Track * Foolish Blatherings (review) * Foolish Blatherings (Hans Landa character study) * French Toast Sunday (5 Favorite Things) * French Toast Sunday (Movie Drinking Game) * Is It Better Than Avatar? * The Stop Button It's also time to vote on next month's movie. Once again, I put out the call for MOTM Champions. ExplicitLAMBcast #110: The Hunger Games | Obviously, The Hunger Games needs way more catchphrases, because I'd like to start off this little summary with one of them, but there's really only one, and it's way overused as it is. So I suppose I'll just say, "I volunteer as, uh, host of the LAMBcast!" Anyway, I was joined by Nick, Rachel and Dan as we dissected the blockbuster literary adaptation, from the casting to the effects to everything in between, with a heavy emphasis on the adapting of the novel itself, seeing as how all of us had read the book and therefore had no one to offer the non-book-read point-of view. Also on tap: * Rants of the Week * Raves of the Week * Last LAMB Standing A couple notes: * Due to Podomatic bandwidth calculation, I've gotten rid of the embeddable player that is usually included with these posts. ExplicitLAMBcast #109: Films You Love But Can't Recommend to Others | The title more or less says it all for episode 109, doesn't it. Be they uncomfortable to sit through (by yourself or with others) or embarassing - whatever the reason, the films that make up the lists we came up with share the titular common trait. Thanks to Courtney of Big Thoughts From a Small Mind for the topic idea. Sharing their lists were Dylan, Nick, Brian, Stevee and James. Also on tap: * Rants of the Week * Raves of the Week * Last LAMB Standing A couple notes: * Due to Podomatic bandwidth calculation, I've gotten rid of the embeddable player that is usually included with these posts. ExplicitMovie of the Month/LAMBcast #108: Blade Runner | Once again, our Movie of the Month pick comes from the early 80s - specifically 1982, as discussed on the accompanying LAMBcast, a a banner year for sci-fi films the likes of which we probably won't see again. The choice this time out is Blade Runner, the Ridley Scott-directed, Harrison Ford-starring ensemble piece that delves into some of man's largest questions: What does it mean to be human? To have a soul? And how many versions of a film is too many? As usual, I give you the IMDb summary for the film, for those few unfortunate souls that aren't familiar with it: "In a cyberpunk vision of the future, man has developed the technology to create replicants, human clones used to serve in the colonies outside Earth but with fixed lifespans. In Los Angeles, 2019, Deckard is a Blade Runner, a cop who specialises in terminating replicants. Originally in retirement, he is forced to re-enter the force when six replicants escape from an offworld colony to Earth. " Now, let's see what your fellow LAMBs had to say about it. Thanks to all of the LAMBs that sent in their posts for this edition of the MOTM. * 1001plus * Cinematic Catharsis * Cinematic Paradox * Defiant Success * Fogs' Movie Reviews * GlamAmor * missemmamm * Surrender to the Void * The Stop Button It's also time to vote on next month's movie. ExplicitLAMBcast #107: Franchise look-back: Alien | For the 107th episode, we take a step in a new direction and open up a new recurring series for the show, in which we take a look at a popular series from film history. Over at the LAMB Forums, the participants in the show voted from a number of franchises and the winner was the Alien series. On hand for the show was host Dylan as well as Nick, Tom, Fogs and newcomer Mark of Green People Soup. ExplicitLAMBcast #106: Roll Your Own Top 5 | It was a conglomeration of shepherds (and other LAMB luminaries) as the latest LAMBcast found not only host Dylan (founder, former shepherd) but also recently resigned shepherd Rachel and the new boss man Joel on board, as well as Nick and James. This week, we each rolled our own Top 5s in a wide range of topics, from monkeys to wanted sequels to hidden gems to dystopian films, with a bunch of boobs and penises in between. ExplicitLAMBcast #105: Whatcha Been Watchin' Lately? | Nick oversees one of our favorite shows to do, and as it turns out, just about everyone was on the same page (wait'll you get to the Rants section). Also on hand were Steve, Dan Heaton, Stevee (making a return to the show after some time off) and first-time LAMBcaster Jessica of The Velvet Cafe, making this the most international show we've had to date, with LAMBs from three continents present and accounted for. I look forward to the day that we have four (or more) continents represented! Also on tap: * Rants of the Week * Raves of the Week * Last LAMB Standing A couple notes: * We can't seem to go a week without some technological issue, so this week I apologize for Steve being approximately 80% harder to hear than the rest of the participants. ExplicitLAMBcast #104: 2012 Academy Award Predictions | Once again, we here at the LAMBcast pull out our crystal balls and attempt to predict the winners for the upcoming Oscars. Or at least some of them. Rather than cycle through all 24 categories, we cherry-picked 10 of the big ones to prognosticate, while sprinkling in our commentary on snubs (like, say...Drive?) and thoughts on the production and nomination process along the way. On hand was your host Dylan, as well as LAMBcast regulars Dan Heaton and Mike, and then we brought in the big guns, in the form of two awards season experts, David of Never Too Early Movie Predictions and Ryan of Lord of the Films. Also on tap: * Rants of the Week * Raves of the Week * Last LAMB Standing A couple notes: * Apologies for the slight static issues you'll hear this week. I hope it's not too annoying. We didn't have the greatest connection all-around. * Due to the bandwidth issues I had with Podomatic last week, I'm getting rid of the embeddable player that is usually included with these posts. The show can be found, of course, via iTunes - just do a search for "LAMBcast." Movie of the Month/LAMBcast #103: The Shining | I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a movie fan, much less a movie blogger, not at least somewhat familiar with The Shining, but I give the IMDb summary every other time, so why not now? "A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future. This month, we introduce a new wrinkle to the selection of the next Movie of the Month - MOTM Champions. The gist is this: I ask for volunteers - people to select a film to be placed on the poll (up to 10 per month, as usual), then promote it, be that on their site, Facebook, Twitter, whatever. Should their film win, they are guaranteed a spot on the LAMBcast episode where we will discuss said film. As a bonus (?), they will also get to host that segment of the show. This month, we had six Champions - the sites are listed along with the films in the poll below. You have one week to vote (and promote your movies!). I'll be putting out the call for the next MOTM in a few weeks, so stay tuned. Online Surveys & Market Research As we do every month, the LAMBcast is tied in with the MOTM. For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums. Music provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website - thanks to Kevin for providing this service. The LAMBcast loves feedback, too; if you'd like your feedback read on the show, leave a note in the comments sections here. We're on Facebook as well. Finally, we're on iTunes, and would love a review, even if it's a bad one. Thanks for listening! | 2/11/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitLAMBcast #102: LAMBpardy (#4) | The LAMBcast's version of America's Favorite Game Show (or is that Wheel of Fortune? The Price is Right?) is back! If you don't know how this works by now, I'm not sure what I can do to help you there. To recap: I return as the reigning champion, Kai returns as our own Wink Martindale (seriously, he wouldn't stop winking at me, as we were recording together from my garage), and Joel and Danny came in to try as take my title. Did they succeed? Listen and find out! Note: due to Kai and I recording from the same space, there's a bit of an echo coming and going for much of the show. It's only mildly annoying (I hope), but I apologize nonetheless. And yes, just so you know, LAMBpardy episopdes will be a semi-regular feature of the LAMBcast, so keep an eye out over at the Forums, as demand to be a contestant is high, and there's a max of three contestants per show (and one of them is the returning champ). Also on tap: * Rants of the Week * Raves of the Week * Last LAMB Standing If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! | 2/4/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Should be contraband
I don't know how they can get away with piling up so much movie knowledge into a single show. Come and bathe in cinematic snarkiness and share in the laughs with a ragtag grouping of some of the members of the Large Association of Movie Blogs. Good times!
