Description

Here it is. The most anticipated ski film of 2010. MSP takes you into the action with “THE WAY I SEE IT.” This work of epic proportions features top-shelf skiing and cinematography swirled around an eclectic soundtrack. The winner of Powder Magazine’s 2009 “Movie of the Year” brings you the best athletes on the planet, doing what they do best – skiing faster, spinning while flipping and grabbing, and of course, stalking the deepest stashes of snow in the world. The MSP team scoured the globe in search of what makes this sport so special… the adventure, the passion, the camaraderie, and the fun. Featuring the skiing of: Mark Abma, Sean Pettit, Eric Hjorleifson, Henrik Windstedt, Bobby Brown, Colby West, James Heim, Richard Permin, Cody Townsend, Rory Bushfield, Ingrid Backstrom, Gus Kenworthy, Jacob Wester, Russ Henshaw, and others.

The Way I See It

If technology like fatter skis has changed the sport of skiing, then I think we can agree that technology like phatter cameras is changing the art of ski movies. The scale of the skiing in this latest offering from Matchstick is just as massive as in last year’s “In Deep” but their use of the Cineflex gyro-stabilized camera for the heli shots delivers the goods with icy cold clarity and incredible depth. If there was ever a ski movie to see on Blu-ray or HD, this is it. Check out the scenes from Girdwood, Alaska and Bralorne, BC that give you a shot of adrenalin and then make you lose your stomach as the helicopter drops off right in front of you, nose down to the foot of the mountain. “Awesome” is an overused term in this business but those shots are truly awe-inspiring. And then to see the way these athletes turn those mountains into their own personal playground is insane. Yeah, I know this has been the plot of every ski movie since Jesus was in short pants but the footage never dropped free-skiing into your lap with this much sense of the possibility of what could be done out there: Bobby Brown's progression in his aerial work shreds the screen and Sean Pettit's sense of enthusiasm leads to lines that continually make your jaw drop. Matchstick’s team of skiers aggressively attack any line or jump placed in front of them making “As I See It” run like an ESPN highlight reel. Saving the best for last, the movie-stealing segment and possible Powder Magazine Best Male Performance of the Year has got to go to Henrik Windstedt and Cody Townsend ripping Alaska in the film’s final chapter. It's funny in parts, it's got amazing, full-throttle skiing and it’s kinetically edited to the Wolfmother soundtrack. You’ll find yourself hitting the back-a-chapter button over and over. Great ski movie.
