Solid

Not bad for a sophomore album. However, impossible to get close to their great debut in 2008 with the self-titled album "The Script". What we get to listen to are 10 easygoing, lighthearted and simple pop rock songs. Nevertheless, there are still some experimental factors in their music. "Science & Faith" is not featuring striking ballads as "The Man Who Can't Be Moved", "Breakeven" or "The End Where I Begin", which made this band popular in countless countries, this record sounds much more focused, though. While "The Script" was a record with some great songs accidentally put together, "Science & Faith" has a start and an ending, and everything between tuned to a fine record. Therefore, 4 out of 5 stars for this sunday afternoon record.

The Script's Sophomore

Even though it seemed clear that the follow-up of the Script's self-titled debut album might not match the previous achievement (simply because "The Script" was so brilliant), their sophomore "Science & Faith" does seem rather disappointing. While the band came across as honest and natural with songs such as "Before The Worst" and "Talk You Down" or even funky with "Rusty Halo", I can't stop thinking that while recording "Science & Faith", they tried a little too hard. Especially "Dead Man Walking" and "Exit Wounds" come across overdramatised and exaggerated.
The album as a whole however seems solid and features some catchy tunes such as "You Won't Feel a Thing" and "For the First Time", so despite the disappointment described above (and due to the resonance "The Script" still provokes in my mind), I'll give it 4 out of 5, also because I'm pretty sure this is one of those records which get bettter and better with time and repetition.

A self-described "Celtic soul" trio, the Script were founded by guitarist Marc Sheehan and vocalist Danny O'Donoghue in 2001. The two musicians had previously performed together in Mytown, an Irish-based boy band that enjoyed moderate success at home but failed to generate international acclaim. After the group disbanded, Sheehan and O'Donoghue spent several years in Los Angeles, where they worked as producers alongside the likes of Teddy Riley, the Neptunes, and Rodney Jerkins. They later relocated...
