This is still another pick-hit for the many electric guitar fans. While less intense than Zazen and Joaquin Lievano's solo efforts or the rock leanings of Paul Speer and Jan Hammer, the guitar work on Blue Desires is no less compelling. And there are "hooks" galore in this fine effort on Canada's Chacra label. The talented and ambitious young guitarist is named Tino Izzo, playing a smorgasbord of styles and moods, with plenty of melody and a lot of heart. Each all-instrumental piece has textured arrangements with flowing, guitar orchestrations, seductively luring us into the rhythmic river that winds through its aural world.
