Advanced Audio Blog #3 - Day Of The Dead (Mexico) | Learn Spanish with SpanishPod101! Don\'t forget to stop by SpanishPod101.com for more great Spanish Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Today Mexico begins the Day of the Dead festivities. This is a very colorful celebration. On the eve of the commemoration, many families raise altars where the orange of marigolds and multicolored paper flags shine, in addition to food and beverages which add a variety of hues to this celebration. In the same way, the pantheons wear their best, waiting for the visit of the loyal deceased ones, along with the thousands of people who travel to their hometowns to celebrate with their \\\"dearly deceased\\\". On November 1st, the "muertos chiquitos" are celebrated, the spirits of deceased children. Toys, candies, chocolates and honey are placed on the altars and the graves to sweeten their visit to the earth. The return of the adult spirits is anticipated for the following night, form whom a delicious snack is prepared. Among traditional the dishes, there is \\\"bread of the dead\\\" (a round bread covered with sugar), "pulque", "mole", "tamales"-, and "atole". This celebration is not at a loss for someone who may take their little cigars, and a bottle of Mezcal to the deceased. Days before this time, bakeries decorate their showcases with humorous scenes of skeleton families enjoying an exquisite \\\"bread of the dead\\\". In traditional markets, all imaginable kinds of toys, decorations and candies allusive to the death shine. Today, I am going to go to Coyoacan, an old district in Mexico City that lives out the traditions day to day. Besides the beautiful "plaza", cathedral and specialty market, there is the Museum of Popular Cultures, where the Day of Dead has already been "living" for a week now. See you soon! --------------------------- Learn Spanish with SpanishPod101! Don\'t forget to stop by SpanishPod101.com for more great Spanish Language Learning Resources! Manuel: No no, hombre. ----Formal English---- Manuel: Is the party here? According to the taxi driver, this is the address that we told him. Do we knock? Gustavo: Of course, you won\'t know unless you ask. And if it\'s not, but there\'s a party, we\'ll become somebody else\'s guests. Manuel: No no, dude. It\'s not like we\'re fifteen years old. We\'re too mature to be going around doing that type of thing. Gustavo: What\'s wrong with it? Look, at this age we\'re more skilled at starting a good conversation. For real. Besides, we\'re bringing something to the party, and that\'s always appreciated. Manuel: Obviously. Even so, we\'ll knock, see whether it\'s here, and if not, we\'ll ask if they know where Luis and Jimena live. --------------------------- Learn Spanish with SpanishPod101! No te hagas. ----Formal English---- Luis: How are Jorge and Andrea? Looks like they\'re getting along great. Jimena: I know! I knew this was going to happen. How awesome, really. Also, since they live near each other, it\'s easy for them to see each other often. Luis: Well, you\'re quite the Cupid. That\'s how you hooked me for sure, right, baby? Jimena: I let you win me over, which is different. You were dying to be with me. Knock it off. Luis: Oh yeah. It was you who kept talking to me and kept wanting to be with me all the time. But I don\'t blame you—I\'m irresistible. Jimena: Oh, so now YOU\'re the big catch. Anyway, later on we\'ll have a long and extended discussion about who won over whom. Right now we need to make sure Jorge and Andrea hit it off. Luis: Hey, we\'re their friends, not a dating service. --------------------------- Learn Spanish with SpanishPod101! ----Formal English---- Jorge: What brought you to this city, Alfredo? Alfredo: It was a series of reasons. First of all, the city is pretty and quiet. Second, I have friends that helped me adapt. And third, the talent here is abundant.
