Dont listen to "Dire..."
Look, to anyone who is thinking of buying this album...don't bother about what "Dire..." wrote as a review about this album...if you are new to classical music...or just want to explore some new artists...this is a good album to start with.
Not bad at all....
Excellent value and very useful as a primer for those new to the classics.
Good popular classics
I do get what one of the other reviewers was trying to say; this is very mainstream classical music and any serious classical buff will get bored quickly. But there's nothing wrong with the popular pieces - they're popular for a reason, after all. The Canon in D, Adagio for Strings, Zadok the Priest et al are fantastic "taster" pieces of music for listeners who aren't sure if classical is really their thing. Everyone needs a gentle introduction at some point, and this album is it for part-time classical listeners. There are some very talented musicians on this album (the Academy of St Martin in the Fields gets a good look in) and if you want a quick overview of classical music you can't go wrong here.
