101 indie classics

for those of you that dont realise these albums are trade offs for record companies
a friend of mine use to put these compilations together for universal.
basicly, for example certain companies would let you use song a, b and c that you requested only if you include (for example) silence is easy by starsailor so thats why you always end up with something odd on these compilations

Random!

errr....is this something to do with cheap licences? I guess we should be naturally suspicious of a compilation album which pitches Jeff Buckley next to Empire of The Sun but you have to love this compilation for it's utterly bonkers scope. From the eighties up to yesterday, common sense is jettisoned as every genre is plundered with a sense of gleeful random abandon.

It's obviously a great collection of tunes from some of the key players of the last twenty years and a great compilation for anyone who doesn't own these tracks elsewhere. It does exactly what is says on the tin....although perhaps the word 'indie' is a little ambitious; I suppose it's not really a statement of fact anymore. Excellent...but lose a point for Chumbawumba though!

Uh...what?

I'm sorry, anyone else find it strange how it's an indie compilation and yet no sign of the smiths? What a load of rubbish.
