Love It

£4.98 ON THE AMAZON MP3 DOWNLOAD SITE (as on 05/12/08). The sound is slick, often frantic electro-pop, with vocalist Jim Morrison's insightful, scathing, Lydonesque half spoken lyrics and a bewildering array of guitars, keyboards and drum samples primarily played by Les Carter. The sampling and covers used by Carter USM, as is always in the case helps to date the music, but it still sounds as fresh and exciting now as it did when released in 1992. 'Is wrestling fixed?' is hilarious, but also try the poignant 'While you were out'. 'The only living boy...' and 'The impossible dream' are the stand out tracks from the album. I saw them live in a rather remote part of Scotland, where the local police turned out in force because someone had told them that the ‘band’ had ‘beaten up’ the then children’s TV presenter Philip Schofield! (They had pushed him about at an awards ceremony, apparently). They ended with a great version of Pink Floyd's Brick in the Wall Part 1. Carter USM had loads of attitude and is shows with this album.
