21st Century Breakdown

It has been too long since the incredible 14 million selling American Idiot was released, and it is the longest gap between their studio albums, 5 years in fact. But they are finally back with “the album of their lives” as quoted on the front of last weeks Kerrang! magazine. Their first single, Know Your Enemy is an incredible song and gives a little taster to what is to come on the rest of the album. It is my most anticipated album of the year and like many people are glad they are back. 21st Century Breakdown as a whole sounds like a combination of sounds from Dookie and American idiot. The album follows a young couple called Christian and Gloria, through the mess and promises of the 21st century, in the simialr rock opera style of American Idiot. Act 1 Heroes and Cons Song of the Century – it is just an intro into the album 21st Century Breakdown – 9/10 Know You Enemy - 10/10 !Viva La Gloria! – 10/10 Before the Lobotomy – 9/10 Christians Inferno – 9/10 Last Night On Earth – 6/10 Act 2: Charlatans and Saints East Jesus Nowhere – 10/10 Peacemaker – 9/10 Last of the American Girls – 8/10 Murder City– 10/10 ?Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) – 8/10 Restless Heart Syndrome – 10/10 Act 3: Horseshoes and Handgrenades Horseshoes and Handgrenades – 8/10 The Static Age – 10/10 21 Guns – 8/10 American Eulogy – 8/10 See The Light – 7/10 The two bonus tracks are incredible. A Quick On While He's Away is a cover of The Who classic and Another state of Mind is a cover from Social Distortion. Both tracks are worth a listen if you have bought the standard version of the album. Best songs on the album are East Jesus Nowhere, Know Your enemy, Murder City, 21st Century Breakdown, Peacemaker, The Static Age, Before The Labotomy, Restless Heart Syndrome, ?Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) and Christians Inferno. Overall the album is incredible and I am over the moon they are back. But just don’t leave it 5 years for the next one… 21st Century Breakdown gets 10/10.

Hmm..

I like the album, very very different to anything I have heard lately... but I do miss the old Green Day! I found some of the songs a bit confusing, and I wasn't really keen on the bonus tracks which I paid extra for. There are some good tracks on there though :)

What A Good Day!

Well, it's finally here but more importantly, Green Day are official back! This is a bargain buy, because not only is it a fantastic album, it also has 20 songs, + a digital booklet! A must buy :). 21st Century Breakdown,Know Your Enemy, ¡Viva la Gloria!, 21 Guns, East Jesus Nowhere and Christian's Inferno are worth listening to!!!

Biography

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Out of all the post-Nirvana alternative bands to break into the pop mainstream, Green Day were second only to Pearl Jam in terms of influence. At their core, Green Day were simply punk revivalists who recharged the energy of speedy, catchy three-chord punk-pop songs. Though their music wasn't particularly innovative, they brought the sound of late-'70s punk to a new, younger generation with Dookie, their 1994 major-label debut. Dookie sold over ten million copies, paving the way for a string of multi-platinum...
