Album Review

Continuing their slow crawl toward middle age, Linkin Park opt for moody over metallic on A Thousand Suns, their fifth album. A clear continuation of 2007’s Minutes to Midnight, A Thousand Suns also trades aggression for contemplation, burying the guitars under washes of chilly synthesizers — a sound suited for a rap-metal band that no longer plays metal but hasn’t shaken off the angst, choosing to channel inward instead of outward. So few rap-metal bands have chosen to embrace their age that it’s easy to admire Linkin Park’s decision not to shy away from it, even if their mega-success gives them the luxury to pursue musical risks. The subdued rhythms, riffs, and raps of A Thousand Suns maintain a brooding mood.

Masterpiece

I try to be as unbias as possible when writing reviews on Linkin Park records, but I have loved every single thing this band have created since they first started out.
This album is VERY different, and a lot of fans of Hybrid Theory and Meteroa just wont understand it. Those are the bad reviews right there, the people who just don't GET it.

A Thousand Suns flows beautifully from start to finish. Just as the band themselves stated, "it's a journey". In the past, Linkin Park albums have consisted of massive anthems that stand alone. A Thousand Suns has a couple of tracks like this, but to understand it perfectly, the whole album must be listened to in order.

I was half expecting to not like it as much as past albums, but I shouldn't have doubted them. Yes, it's very different, but that just shows how amazingly diverse Linkin Park can be.

True fans will love it just as much as they've loved every other move Linkin Park have made.
Ignore the bad reviews - 5 stars all the way!

simply not good enough

from Hybrid Theory and Meteora to this. lost for words.

Waste of money and time

This album really fails, it seems as though the band have tried something different but not in a good way. If this was the first album you listened to by the band then i dont blame you if you dont listen to the others because one bad record can put a person off the whole band altogether.

The music isnt that catchy at all and it all tries to be something its not. The album consists of alot of songs although 6, yes you heard 6 of these songs are under 2 minutes and around 4 others are not even worth air time on the radio they are that short. Overall though i think this is a waste of money so preview all the tracks first before you make purchase even if you are a die hard fan.

Time to retire i think for the guys now, not as good as they used to be.

Biography

Formed: 1996 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Although rooted in alternative metal, Linkin Park became one of the most successful acts of the early 2000s by welcoming elements of hip-hop, modern rock, and atmospheric electronica into their music. The band's rise was indebted to the aggressive rap-rock movement made popular by the likes of Korn and Limp Bizkit, a movement that paired grunge's alienation with a bold, buzzing soundtrack. Linkin Park added a unique spin to that formula, however, focusing as much on the vocal interplay between singer...
