Album Review

Timed to perfection, Daft Punk's second live album landed exactly ten years after the first, and provides a fitting complement to Alive 1997, easily the best live non-DJ electronica record ever released. While the original featured only a handful of tracks (but found them transformed and tweaked ad infinitum), Alive 2007 is packed with productions, most of them short and many of them getting a big crowd response (all recorded at one show in Paris in June of 2007). As on their first two classic full-lengths, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo display excellent crowd control, pacing the record well, spacing the hits, and building the mood like the good crowd-pleasers they are. (The visuals included in the regular and deluxe editions reveal quite the stage show as well.) It has the feel of a greatest-hits-live concert, but energized by Daft Punk's talents at weaving songs in and out of each other. Even songs from the comparatively desultory Human After All sound rejuvenated in context, with "Robot Rock" getting the show off to a rousing start. It may not be better or stronger than the original Alive 1997, but it's definitely harder and faster. ~ John Bush, Rovi

OMG!! WOW!! AMAZING!!

This album is genius. I saw Daft Punk play in London last year and WOW this live album is brilliant!! They were the best DJ's I've ever seen play and this album is a great reminder of the quality they produce..... Unfortunately I give itunes a 1 out of 5 for yet again leaving out one of the best tracks in their set...if you buy the full version you'll get CD2 with extra bonus tracks, which includes a bootleg of Thomas Bangalter's "music sounds better with you". itunes won't! What a let down....

Just brilliant.

Think of all the times you heard Daft Punk and thought 'that's cool'. Now add them all together, add a bit of (very) clever mixing and editing and you have this album - you can't properly appreciate it without having heard the previous albums (just so you can go 'oooh that's from that...) but even if you haven't it's still a great mix. Very highly recommended (if there were a sixth star I'd have clicked on that instead of the fifth one :) )

Outstanding

Last year, I almost bought a ticket for Daft Punk at the Wireless festival, after hearing this theres now a head-shaped indentation in the wall. An incredible live act has transferred flawlessly into an incredible live ablum. Daft Punk assembled one the largest soundsystems ever for their 2007 tour, on the evidence here you can certainly believe it, or rather, feel it. The sheer force of the production gives a whole new dimension too much loved classics, even in some instances arguably improving on the original studio versions. Notably with the ablum opener 'Robot Rock' giving a whole new sense of power to guitar fuelled harnessed agression of 2005 ablum highlight. Combine this with superb mixing, blending seamslessly an eclectic back catalogue in the process bringing something fresh, new and exciting to established Dance hits, and you have a strong case for quite possibly the greatest electronic live ablum of all time. If anything, the only criticism that can be seriously levied at this ablum is that it is not nearly enough. The omission of 'Revolution 909' and startlingly 'Digital Love' will be hard to take for hardened Daft Punk fan. Especially since their exculsion seems to be at the expense of including tracks from the more inconsistent 2005 ablum 'Human After All'. Nevertheless, viewed as a whole 'Alive 2007' is an instant Dance classic, essential for both the Daft Punk newcomer and veteran alike

Biography

Formed: 1992 in Paris, France

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '90s, '00s

In similar company with new-school French progressive dance artists such as Motorbass, Air, Cassius, and Dimitri from Paris, Parisian duo Daft Punk quickly rose to acclaim by adapting a love for first-wave acid house and techno to their younger roots in pop, indie rock, and hip-hop. The combined talents of DJs Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, the pair's first projects together included Darling, a voiceless indie cover band; their current recording name derives from a review in U.K....
