Trapped in a Dream
It is extremely challenging to organize Omori's music in a Genre. His creations evolve constantly and his poetry becomes deeper and warmer. For the ones that need the help of "sounds like" imagine Nick Cave flirting with Belle & Sebastian and the Velvet Underground amalgamating with Anthony and the Johnson's. Don't pass by, go in and try.
Excellence
It's easy to be nothing and everything at the same time, to say something and nothing, not to engender any meaning and yet to bring fullness to bear. That might be the flavour of this review, but it also might be the flavour of Omori's music. Timbre, yes; jingoistic, no. "You keep on accusing me of what I'm not" he croons in "Declare Love". In fact, Omori is better defined at what he is not than what he is. He is not bad, not mediocre, not dispassionate, not a superstar. Listen to his music for the undercurrents and not for what it appears to be - then you will discover his excellence.
