iTunes Review
All Hope Is Gone took Slipknot four years to make because the masked mephistos were busy with other evil endeavors. Singer Corey Taylor and guitarrorist Jim Root found success with side project Stone Sour and drummer Joey Jordison worked with Ministry, Korn, 3 Inches Of Blood, and percussionist Shawn Crahan's band Dirty Little Rabbits. But don't think that All Hope Is Gone sounds like Slipknot have been spread thin — the outside experience gave their sinister sound more musical strength, making for an album that is darker, deeper, harder, and more possessed than their predecessors. It's the first time all members were involved in the songwriting. The experimental noise collage of ".Execute." crescendos into the opening track "Gematria (The Killing Name)", a brutal onslaught of pummeling rhythms and guitar artillery that catapults the anti war lyrics. "Psychosocial" delivers brutally heavy drums that march alongside monstrous guitar riffs contrasting with a melodic chorus of powerful anti-occupation rhymes. And with a fierce title track and three exclusive iTunes bonus songs, this one's going to be hard to top.

All Hope Is Gone
Slipknot have returned with one of their heaviest albums yet. And with many metal bands releasing a new album this year, i still think this is going to be the best. It's been 4 years since a Slipknot album and this is definitely their most heaviest album. First single Psychosocial is amazing and i knew that the rest of the album would follow suit. I have only been a Slipknot fan for about 2 years, my first single i bought was Duality, which is one of the best songs ever written. And since then i have bought all three previous albums. They are great, heavy, epic and brutal. All Hope Is Gone gets 10/10. Top 6 1 - Psychosocial 2 - Snuff 3 - All Hope Is Gone 4 - Vendetta 5 - Gematria (The Killing Name) 6 - Dead Memories
Oh Please.
I had great expectations for this album with the release of 'psychosocial', and 'all hope is gone', both of these were great songs (especially psychosocial!). However, upon hearing the abum in full, I feel very let down... these songs are not heavy, and do not sound good. They seem like they have been put together in a rush, and don't flow very well. The chorus in many songs seems out of place, and the majority of the lyrics are very weak. Gematria was a good song until I realized just how terrible the lyrics were! It seems like Corey Taylor's stint with Stone Sour has proven to be a nail in the coffin for Slipknot. He has tried to incorporate too many Stone Sour elements into a place where they just dont belong, which has resulted in a complete mess that sounds like a brawl between several conflicting styles of music, none of which fit together. The only good tracks on the album are: Psychosocial, All Hope Is Gone and Gehenna. Some elements of Butcher's Hook show Slipknots true self coming out (notably 2:10-2:25), but the rest of the song is crap. Vendetta sounds good musically, however the vocals and lyrics are atrocious. Dead Memories was good, until i remebered that i was listening to a SLIPKNOT album, not some pile of sissy w**k. Snuff just sounds like a Stone Sour rip-off... It was compared to 'Circle', however Circle was far better than this. Poor effort guys, I loved every song of every album apart from this. I give 2 stars because sometimes your true self shines through in this, but no where near enough. Peace.
A mainstream hit? Doubtful, but, hey, it could happen....
It's not a bad thing when you get a new Slipknot album. Then again, sometimes it's far from good as their "9.0 Live" album proved a couple of years ago. This new album, however, is good. In fact, it's very, very good. And strangely its very mainstream. It's almost akin to Metallica's "Black Album" in terms of sheer latitude of sound. From the opening sounds of distortion and moaning to the final, stomping anthem notes of the title track, this is Slipknot's most balanced and accessible album to date. This doesn't mean Slipknot have narrowed themselves tonally, though. Oh, no. The album contains just as much heavy metal as their previous records. The first proper song is a disturbing and almost truly mind-rotting anti-ballad, while the title track evokes true Slipknot riffs that have been missing from Slipknot's more recent records, and the debut single reeks of Stone Sour, and other hard rock bands. The album also contains the band's heaviest song to date, "This Cold Black", a plethora of outstanding guitar riffs, grinding turntables and insane drum solos that aspiring drummers will injure themselves severely trying to replicate. The album also features the song "Snuff", which is the album's high point. It is very reminiscent of their acoustic turn from their previous album ("Vermillion Part 2"), but it also manages to display their ability to create good music, as well as something unbelievably heavy. If Slipknot were to ever become acceptable in the mainstream, this song would be the one people would crowd around. The lyrics are very similar to a lot of emo tunes that dominate the charts currently, and yet, it evokes much more than My Chemical Romance have EVER managed in entire albums. Overall, this is a great album. It's not Slipknot's best work, but it will probably prove to be their most popular.
