iTunes Review

Kelly Clarkson will always be remembered as the first American Idol winner, but thanks to her powerful voice, bold vision and sparkling charisma, she’s also a bona fide pop star. Her third full-length, My December, featured Clarkson taking control of the reins in new ways — writing or co-writing the majority of the rock-tinged album — and the release of All I Ever Wanted marks another chapter in her evolution. Lead single and album opener, “My Life Would Suck Without You”, thumps with a propulsive dance beat that gets painted by the Texas native’s sincere vocal delivery before kicking into high gear with a monstrous chorus. This upbeat energy is woven throughout the album — including a sassy chorus on guitar-driven, Katy Perry-written, “I Do Not Hook Up”; punk rock “Whyyawannabringmedown”; and club-ready “If I Can’t Have You”, written by Clarkson and OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder. Softer moments resonate just as powerfully, especially on piano ballad “Already Gone” — another beautiful Clarkson and Tedder partnership.

Brilliant return to a more Pop sound

Considering how 'dark' My December was and how much slack she got for releasing such non-radio-friendly music, when I heard she was releasing a new album and got sent the new single I thought maybe she was compromising her sound and her image so that she could reign on top of the charts once again, but that isn't the case, and I'm glad she didn't. Some of the songs are actually still My December-like, which to me is great, but most of the sound is generally more upbeat and radio friendly, a throwback but also an evolution from the Breakaway era, which is just as good. I loved My December and I loved Breakaway so this is definitely another fantastic album in my eyes. I'm glad she still went artistically where she wanted to go, without being told what to do or how to sound, just to fit in and be another mainstream artist. Although I'm not really fond on the cover, the music is great and I can't stop playing almost every song. Definitely worth 5 stars..glad she finally got a UK #1 hit too!! I hope this album gets to #1 in the US and the UK.
