iTunes Review

As a band known for its humor and its twists of novelty, it should sound pretty surprising to hear the serious adult-contemporary pop music that comes blazing out of 2010’s All In Good Time. The departure of one of the group’s main songwriters, Steven Page, accounts for part of this shift. The other part of the equation may be that the Barenaked Ladies have always possessed a deeper interest in pop music than a few snarky jokes. “Jerome” aims a few jabs at their departed songwriter. But “Summertime” features a large guitar riff shuttled into the middle of the smooth AM radio harmonies in the chorus. “Another Heartbreak,” “Every Subway Car,” and “The Love We’re In” all feature a silky professionalism where it’s hard to fathom that this group once played into the hi-jinks of “Be My Yoko Ono” (or that it’s the same band kicking into the shoot-out here of “Four Seconds”).

Customer Reviews

Best since Maroon

When Steven left the band I thought that there was no way the ladies could be the same but I absolutely love this album. Ed's vocals are as brilliant s ever and there are some truly outstanding tracks.Highly recommended.

Well worth getting

For diehard BNL fans, the absence of Steve Page's oh-so-distinctive voice will come as a shock, but Ed's melodious tones and the sheer quality of the songwriting will soon win you over. There's a distinct shift of style in this album, less jokey, less youthful, more… well more grown up; think 'BNL are Men' with a dash of 'Everything to Everyone' rather than 'Gordon'

There really are some great songs on it - Ever Subway Car being a real standout- and it delivers a fresher, harder BNL that should appeal to old-timers and first-timers alike.
