Exceptional.

If Carlsberg did albums...

Its crystal clear to me...that this is a quality album.

When I heard Young Guns EP "Mirrors" back last year, I was instantly hooked onto the their heavy, yet catchy style of music and my god they've progressed from there...

Sons of Apathy - 9/10 - Great riff, fantastic lyrics and vocals from Gus and overall a huge rock tune. Classic Young Guns.

Crystal Clear - 10/10 - While still very "rock" based, this is a very accessible poppy song, with a catchy chorus. Great choice as single and if your new to Young Guns, a must buy.

Meter and Verse - 7/10 - A very mature, meaningful sound in this song. Continually building up to the huge chorus. With songs like this, you would not think this a just a debut album.

Weight of the World - 9/10 - I loved this on Mirrors and love the AOKAD version, just as much, if not more. Very accessible, catchy and upbeat. Definitely deserves to be on the album.

Dead of Arrival - 8/10 - Heavier than some of their other work, yet still maintaining the catchy chorus, this is a great tune. The gang vocals are a major plus.

Stitches - 10/10 - My favourite on the album, I'm so impressed by the boys work on this song. A really mature, epic song. Powerful vocals mixed with the quiet, meaningful lines that Gus delivers with perfection. Lyrically amazing, such a great outing. They deserve to make it big in the music industry, purely for this song.

Winter Kiss - 6/10 - I've never really got into this song, although many people I've spoke to love it. Heavy riffs added with piano. Quite interesting, really.

Elements - 8/10 - Heavy riffs mixed with both powerful and delicate vocals, this is another example of the maturity and high song quality displayed on "All Our Kings Are Dead".

After the war - 8/10 - Classic Young Guns, once again. Powerful vocals, great riffs and a nice, uplifting beat. Top stuff.

Endless Grey - 7/10 - Upbeat, great vocals crossed with a steady, fast, catchy music. Very good.

At the Gates - 8/10 - Does what it says on the tin. Provides a great penultimate song, before you walk through the Gates of the end of the album.

Beneath the Waves - 10/10 - Wow. Huge. Great riff, great chorus. These boys are gonna' become massive.

Overall, this album is a must buy. I'm so impressed by Young Guns. They really are the future of rock music.

A debut that lives up to the hype

I first saw these guys supporting The Answer in Brighton just a couple of days after the release of their EP, and decided to buy it. Since then, I've been hooked and seen them two more times, and each time they've always been very friendly and up for a chat despite their ever-increasing fame. And now, being one of the most hotly-tipped UK rock bands, a lot was riding on this album and, luckily, it doesn't disappoint. The riffs are massive, the rhythm section thunderous, and the lyrics consistently inventive and poetic, with a strong delivery by Gus. One fair criticism of the album is that, in places, the vocals sound a bit overproduced, but it's a minor setback at most. Great album, class live act, and a band surely set for bigger things.

English alternative rock outfit Young Guns formed in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire in 2003.
