iTunes Review

Even the most creatively restless of rock bands can't neglect their original muse, a lesson U2 ably learned and redressed on this 2000 album (and yet again on its even more successful cousin, How To Build An Atomic Bomb). After seeming to lose considerable focus in the '90s with such trendy, if occasionally rambling Bono-led reinventions as Zooropa and Pop, U2 reunited here with Eno and Daniel Lanois, the production team that had helped shape them into epochal legends in the '80s. The results are immediately heralded by the return of Edge's ringing guitar tones on the transcendent international hit "It's a Beautiful Day," yet the album is also expansive enough to incorporate the more recent rave textures of "Elevation" and gospel-tinged "Stuck in a Moment."

Customer Reviews

Typically Brilliant Band is U2

This album takes pride of place in my U2 collection, and cheers me up and chills me out, I can only say that I hope it will do the same for you!

Very Good

This is an interesting album as it is very different from the previous albums, Achtung Baby, Zooropa and Pop, and is quite similar to The Joshua Tree. For any U2 fan, this album is worth buying. Songs such as Beautiful Day and Wild Honey are very catchy and this edition contains the song, The Ground Beneath Her Feet which does not appear on all editions. If you're thinking of downloading this album, go ahead!

Back to roots!

It's great that they came back with this album even though I still liked them when experimenting in the 90's with electronica, this is back to their rock roots. Beautiful day and Elevation are killer tunes. Great ballads Walk on,Kite and The Ground beneath. Trully the masters of such ballads and coming out with such emotional lyrics. Also great are When I look at the world and New York exploding with guitars and comotion on the chorus. Good stuff. You never went away guys! Rock on!

Through a combination of zealous righteousness and post-punk experimentalism, U2 became one of the most popular rock & roll bands of the '80s. They were rock & roll crusaders during an era of synthesized pop and heavy metal, equally known for their sweeping sound as for their grandiose statements about politics and religion. The Edge provided the group with a signature sound by creating sweeping sonic landscapes with his heavily processed, echoed guitars. Though the Edge's style wasn't conventional,...
