The wait is finally over!
It's been 17 years since Jerry Burns released her self titled debut album and just by chance typed her name into iTunes hoping to see something new and here is 'Angel' a 5 track album.
All 5 tracks are amazing and with Jerry's voice still sounding fresh as it was all those years ago.
Many will be familiar with 'This Love' that was released by Craig Armstrong with Elizabeth Fraser from the Cocteau Twins on vocals a song I love but think Jerry's version is the better of the 2.
I would recommend this to everyone, a perfect album to kick back and relax to. I just hope Sony decided to release her sought after debut album on Itunes.
SO worth the wait!
There is a recurrent theme here - like other reviewers, I typed in Jerry Burns on a whim and couldn't believe my luck to find 5 new tracks from this INCREDIBLE artiste! I was fortunate enough to both see Jerry in concert at the ICA when her debut album came out, and to meet her afterwards. My autographed copy of her debut album is most certainly treasured, especially for the heartbreaking track, "A Simple Heart".
But that's the past! These five tracks are simply beatutiful and showcase Ms. Burns' voice to perfection. Please preview the tracks and enjoy; then please buy the tracks and treasure them. A truly underrated talent.
So much longing
Have found that iTunes has 5 new tunes from the Glaswegian songstress Jerry Burns and bought them without hesitation. We lost our hard disc the other week and all our favourite songs. A fine balance between paying for a disc retrieval at £300 or a lot of work finding the missing tracks which cost even more on iTunes. Must remember to back everything up. Now I have a 1T external should be easier.
For those who don't know the lady [ and do not get confused with the male country singer Jerry Burns ] she writes and produces music of exceptional clarity and beauty with almost French chanteuse qualities. Anyone who has heard her 1994 album 'Pale Red' knows that there is an artist who deserves to be heard far more widely and whose production has a longing and nostalgia that you want to hear more of. Which is a pity because 'Pale Red' and 'Angel' are 15 tracks only. Her fans have been waiting for years for this, barely 20 minutes. She's not to everyones taste, my nearest and dearest do not see the point. There are no histrionics, no complexity, almost nothing there but bare understated piano riffs and strings and that voice that is mellow single malt with a hint of IrnBru but pure lost love, madness and ecstasy that only Marcel Maljhoudi can come close to in ' Une jour Tu Verras' . Quelle domage.
