The Triumph of the Moon...

A distinct change in style for The Advisory Circle; As The Crow Flies sees them enter a new, folk-influenced phase, moving away from the sinister cut and paste library music and Public Information Film horrors of previous releases. Specifically, this is a kind of vision of an unreal rural Britain, as seen through the lens of a non-existent TV show, c1970. And if you followed any of that, then this album is most certainly one you should be listening to.

It's not all radiophonic Wicker Man mysticism though; surprisingly, this could be the Circle's most commercial release as some of the later tracks remind me of early Daft Punk and Air, especially the digital-love voices on Lonely Signalman. All this, and some beautiful artwork too, as always. The triumph of As The Crow Flies (and indeed, all the Ghost Box releases) is that the sound is always pushing forward and developing, moving on and experimenting. Ghost Box is one of our most important new (ish) labels and The Advisory Circle is absolutely essential for anyone looking to do some experimenting of their own.
