Authentic funk with a modern edge...
Baby Charles succeed in what so many others have tried to do and failed - give a performance that would be as home today as it would have been in the halcyon days of funk 1968 - 1974. Back of My Hand is all that you could expect of a funk track - tight but somehow loose and dirty rhythm section and Ms Charles' vocals are as smooth as silk. Oh and that drum break....WOW! With tracks such as the Arctic Monkeys' I Bet You Look Good on The Dancefloor bringing it all up to date this the complete article. Don't take my word for it - buy it. Buy it all!
Baby Charles
Whilst not relevant to some genres, in terms of soul it is necessary to acknowledge the past in order to find the future and this album manages to do that superbly. Blending old-school methods with modern touches, 'Baby Charles' is as good a funk album as any recorded back in the 1970's and also by todays standards. Recommended.
