Seriously?

I won't deny that there are some true classics on this album, but I worry for the sanity of the MOS creative department. Testone and Ebeneezer Goode on the same album? Really? You'd never have heard that at a club, so why in an album? Probably because the majority of people who will buy this will see two or three tracks they recognise and expect the entire album to match. Pandering to the masses to make masses of money.

Dance music grew, diversified and evolved so quickly through the 80's and early 90's that to put together a compilation that spans almost a decade would only be considered by someone who wasn't actually there for any of it. And calling it "old skool" merely emphasises the lack of thought, knowledge and experience behind this collection.

If MOS really wants to satisfy a need, how about a series of compilations by year? Imagine being able to relive the top 30 tracks being played in clubs in each year, from the earliest days of house in the mid-80's right up to when the other MOS collections start in y2k. Now that would be a collection worth paying for.

Ahh the exquisite pleasure of being able to listen to this album and being able to fondly remember the time in which alot of these tunes were being being blasted out of Shelleys Laserdome in Stoke-on-Trent ( sacred ground for many a rave up in my youth. )
This excellent MOS soundtrack to those nights, is yes, full of familiar tracks that have apppeared on many a 90's compilation album, but then again, so too are most of the 70's, 80's and countless disco albums that come out several times a year!
This ageing former clubber can still go weak in the knees at the opening sound of Nomad's " Devotion " , feel lifted to Hyper Go Go's anthemic " High " and Bizarre Inc.'s " Playing with Knives " and smile broadly to Xpansion's " Move Your Body " .
Some tracks are not particular favourites ( i did tend to enjoy the more happy sounding stuff back in the day ) but many still evoke that feeling of carefreeness and joy that came with being a dance fan and a teenager back in the early to mid 1990's.
Great compilation.
Only complaint is, once again, certain tracks can not be bought as an individual purchase, which is a shame for alot of people who may already having most of the tracks on this compilation, and perhaps needing that elusive one to complete their collection, may have to purchase the whole album, just to get one track.
