Excellent
An album of continued highlights, brilliant musicians and fabulous vocals. Just buy this it is worth it for Paradigm alone.
Beautiful and Magnificent
This is an absolutely immense album. Formed from the wreckage of Sieges Even, Sub Signal's first release captures the very best moments of Sieges Even's brief resurgence, and turns everything up to 11.
Don't be fooled by the instrumental samples on offer here, whilst the band have a tight and intricate approach to their compositions, Arno Menses's vocals are very much front and centre, steering each song through dramatic highs and reflective lows. David Bertok's keyboards have never sounded sharper, and often form the back bone of the albums best tracks.
The music here is fundamentally progressive, but the band have such a good ear for a melody that you can hear every instrument is there to serve the song, and not the player. There's no room for showboating here, and even though each song is so packed with pace and melody changes, the songs always feel completely coherent and flow wonderfully.
Principally I'm a fan of melodic progressive rock/metal/electro and I have to say that this was one of the best albums of 2009, but more than that, it's one of the few albums which bridges the fractured state of the genre these days, offering so many different shades and textures of sound over the course of the album, whilst retaining a sound which is unique to the band.
I cannot recommend this album enough, and I can't stress enough by how much the included samples undersell the album.
