Beauty & poetry in music
This is a beautiful album - it deserves a huge audience because it is poignant and profound yet carefully communicated in musical simplicity (though it is by no means simplistic). Miriam Jones writes in a vibrant style, with enough variety to keep you hooked right to the very end. But the thing that gets me most about it all is that there is absolutely no pretence whatsoever - she is sharply honest and open, and sings about things that matter with a captivating degree of vulnerability. Having left her native Canada last year and trying to make it in the UK, she deserves all the help she can get now. Buy it and enjoy!
Captivating
I heard Miriam in a pub in Keswick earlier this summer and have to stop myself from listening to this album each time I pick up my iPod. Her voice is individual and beautiful, her songs poignant and honest with a fantastic musicality. I hear echoes of her fellow Canadian Joni Mitchell and also Suzanne Vega
