Bedroom to dancefloor - genius

Along with British pop geniuses the Pet Shop Boys, New Order make the transition from the charts to the dancefloor look effortless. This 'Best of Remixes' album may cause the odd raised eyebrow amongst those New Order fans (myself included) who bought the 4-disc anthology which included a disc of remixes a few years ago (in fact, those who also bought 1995's remix collection which accompanied New Order's first greatest hits collection may raise their other eyebrow, or the same one even higher!). However, despite the growing ubiquity of New Order greatest hits albums, this collection neatly avoids too much duplication with previous versions, without allowing the quality to slip. Major highlights would be the Out Of Order remix of Spooky, where 90s trance icons Jam & Spoon do their thing, and also the Reunited In A Day mix of Ruined In A Day which somehow makes the melancholy deliciously uplifting at the same time. One or two extraneous mixes aside, this is pop/dance as only the Brits can make it - check out the remix disc of PopArt by the Pet Shop Boys for further listening.

Album of Thirds

Being a New Order fan for years anything that is new from the fab bunch from Manchester draws my attention. Recently there seems to be an increasing amount of releases that scream "record company needs money so you will release something that the fans will buy" and with all due respect there seems to be too many "singles" and "greatest hits" releases from the label. With that in mind I still have this in my library mainly because it gives me the missing links in the bands library. But what I think you are after is an honest opinion...........is it any good? It is an album of thirds. First third captures you, the second third is not bad but final third really becomes an after thought and really does has not been given much thought. They could have done a lot better with the final third! Please remember I am an over critical fan who looks for perfection from this group all the time! If your a fan buy it........only if you do not have the vast majority of the remixes If your not a fan and you want to dance and your over 25...........buy it as you will appreciate the structure. Remember these boys (and girl) have been around a long time so it is an aquired taste, but to say the least Mr Pete Tong likes them so you can't go wrong! But then again if you want a real taste of this group buy Substance, Waiting for the sirens call or Low Life.........in my opinion Listen and Learn fom the old school!

Dance Music

Trust me, you will never buy a better dance record. If this does not get your feet moving, you are dead! Enjoy!!

Biography

Formed: 1980 in Manchester, England

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

Rising from the ashes of the legendary British post-punk unit Joy Division, the enigmatic New Order triumphed over tragedy to emerge as one of the most influential and acclaimed bands of the 1980s; embracing the electronic textures and disco rhythms of the underground club culture many years in advance of its contemporaries, the group's pioneering fusion of new wave aesthetics and dance music successfully bridged the gap between the two worlds, creating a distinctively thoughtful and oblique brand...
