Album Review

Black Roses is solid proof that the Rasmus are here to stay like any classic hard rock band. That may seem a bit strange, because theirs is a more teen-oriented fare, and teenagers are a fleeting audience (until they hit 40 and get nostalgic), but when it comes to longevity, the group can be compared to Linkin Park, who have also managed to outlast their initial success by the simple quality of their music. There is a difference, of course: the Americans stay relevant by constantly reinventing nu metal, and the Rasmus stick to the one thing the Finns generally do best, which is writing hard rock-based, highly melodic songs that reflect the country's moody climate. In fact, the Rasmus have been doing this all along, slowly edging to the top as they shifted from punkier fare to a goth-rooted sound, and their approach is in its full dark bloom on Black Roses, which shows that the band is no one-hit wonder — one-style wonder maybe, but no less than that. The album isn't really different from a couple of its predecessors (much like the case with those unchanging classic rockers), but it also carries not a single filler track, being loaded with über-catchy riffs that combine genuine seriousness with a certain irresistible bouncy quality — there's no way to get "Livin' in a World Without You" out of your head once it's played a couple of times, and the rest is only a notch behind. Lauri Ylönen's voice is still weepy, but that's what the Rasmus are about, anyway. The whole thing is simple and predictable, but the album's blend of energy and unashamed sentimentality is exemplary for the band's own sound and for Finnish rock in general, and this is a sign of quality: after all, being catchy is hard work, and not many can floor it both so well and so steadily.

Black Roses

Awesome, another brilliant album form the finnish rock band. This has been one of my most anticipated album releases this year. I own Dead Letter and Hide From the Sun, which have both been amazing albums. The first singles from the album are Livin' In a World Without You and Justify. Black Roses sounds slightly different from their previous albums, which is what the band had hoped for, calling it "Death Pop". If you bought their previous albums then i recommend that you but this, it is just as good. Top 6 1 - Livin' In a World Without You 2 - You Got It Wrong 3 - The Fight 4 - Ten Black Roses 5 - Live Forever 6 - Ghost Of Love

The Rasmus- Black Roses

The Rasmus are back and better then ever! This is possibly the greatest album they have ever written, with a refreshing mix of the upbeat older Rasmus 'Into' and their slightly darker side with 'Dead Letters and Hide From The Sun', 'Black Roses' still has a gothic edge, but this time it's much more epic in scale and in some ways...more upbeat, even if the lyrics are slightly dark.. I understand the sight difficulty in getting into 'gothic' music..but the UK have totally missed the boat with this band, sometimes even being totally negative towards them for no apparent reason..what you must realise is..the band never intended to be the next 'HIM' etc..Lauri (the lead singer) only had feathers in his head, because his fascination for birds and i personally think alot of the UK public who aren't fans, should just take the time to listen to this band and realise how amazingly catchy, epic and musically talented The Rasmus are! Forget all the haters! (preferrably the ones who just listen to Radio 1 to find bands, tut tut) and take a chance with this! If your a fan of U2, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi (or any other 80's stadium rock bands come to think of it) go for it! I'm still not over the fact 'Living In A World Without You' didn't at least make the Top 20! What is wrong with this country?! I give this album 4 out of 5, cause nothings ever perfect! The Rasmus 'Black Roses' sure is close though! ;-)

Album of the Year!

Being a fan of The Rasmus I'm obviously going to be a little biased in my opinion but...I can not rate this album high enough!! Told you. Seriously, I have their three preceding albums, Into, Dead Letters and Hide From The Sun. I love all these albums but each one has tracks that I dislike in some way. This new album is probably the first album for a long time I can listen to from start to finish and say I love every track. They're all different but have the unmistakable Rasmus sound. There's the wonderfully catchy Livin' In A World Without You (why isn't this in the UK charts), the traditional rock sound of Ten Black Roses, Lost and Lonely sounds like something from a Rocky film with a great guitar solo ending, The Fight sounds like there's one happening on the guitar, and the beautiful ballad Live Forever. It's a shame these guys don't get the coverage they deserve in the UK, they are a breath of fresh air compared to the Brit Music that's around now. Buy this album, you won't be disappointed.

Biography

Years Active: '90s, '00s

The four members of Helsinki's melodically rocking the Rasmus formed the band in 1995 while still in high school because Finland's English music scene — in their own words — "sucked." Their debut, Peep, rapidly went gold in their homeland, making the members rock stars at the age of 16. They quickly recorded and released the follow-up, Playboys, which also went gold and earned the group an Emma, Finland's version of a Grammy. Their third album, Hell of a Tester, included "Liquid," a track...
