Album Review

As he was toiling on Kill Uncle, Morrissey released Bona Drag, a compilation of singles and B-sides, including "Everyday Is Like Sunday" and "Suedehead" from Viva Hate. While the record conveniently overlooks some rarities, the selections on Bona Drag are uniformly first-rate and many of the songs — "Picadilly Palare," "Interesting Drug," "November Spawned a Monster," "The Last of the Famous International Playboys," "Lucky Lisp," "Disappointed," "He Knows I'd Love to See Him," and "Ouija Board, Ouija Board" — are Morrissey classics, arguably making Bona Drag a more consistent and entertaining record than Viva Hate.

Reissue, repackage

Well after the re-release of Maladjusted and Southpaw now we have Bona Drag again which is was originally a collection of singles and B sides anyway. To be fair there are some great songs on this but any respectable Morrissey fan will already own them - many times over probably. Of the "new" additions "The Bed Took Fire" is the song "At Amber" just with a different name! (the music is very slightly different)
There is a longer version of "Let The Right One Slip In" but it does not really add too much.
None of the other "new" songs are up to much I am afraid - if they were not deemed good enough to release originally what makes them think they are now?
Sorry Morrissey - a few years ago I would have defended you to the hilt but I think this is one reissue too many.
Personally I hope he records one more album of new material and then I think it's best to call it a day.

Loved it then

Loved back then love it now.

Hated it back then

Still hate it.

As the lead singer of the Smiths, arguably the most important indie band in Britain during the '80s, Morrissey's theatrical crooning and literate, poetic lyrics — filled with romantic angst, social alienation, and cutting wit — connected powerfully with a legion of similarly sensitive, disaffected youth. These fans turned The Smiths into stars in Britain, exerting tremendous pull over much of the country's guitar-based music for many years after their breakup, and even if the group remained...
