Truly Born Again
After the somewhat lacklustre 'Soul Classics' in 2005 Mica Paris returns with her best work to date. The album goes from the retro soul track 'Baby Come Back Now' penned by James Morrison, to more calmer thoughtful more poignant moments such as the acousticly tinged 'Born Again' and 'Hold On', with the latter being written by X Factor's Maria Lawson. 'Born Again' as an album flows beautifully and Paris switches up from calmer moments to disco style tracks such as 'Breathless' given to her by none other than Rihanna. Vocally she is on form showing her power alongside more vulnerable moments bringing the listener in and captivating them. Personally, the albums highlight is 'Stay', not to be confused with her 90's hit.
Why her label feel the need to promote this so little is unknown. She is part of UK Soul Royalty, whilst not upto the consistancy of Gabrielle in her career or the versatility of Beverley Knight she is still up there wearing a part of the UK Soul crown. Let's hope she sells enough records to continue making music, so that any of us that prefer exceptional vocals over computerised vocals can continue to listen to fresh material.
