Superbly Crafted!
This is such a good album! It's refreshing to hear a DJ mix these days that has clearly had so much time and thought put into the tracks and mixing. Perfect listening for pretty much any situation
Bucking the trend
Many speculate tha the commercial mix CD is entering its twilight years, with the increasing influence of podcasts and illegal download resources blighting the entire music industry. Cafe Mambo Ibiza 2010 (mixed by Alex Wolfended) reasserts the importance of bucking established trends, with an astute release reflecting the Ibiza dance scene's musical depth.
Rather than the smooth traditional 2-disk 'chillout' format, the 2010 compilation combines commercial gloss with a live mixing style, placing the listener by the sea at Cafe Mambo for both 'daytime' and 'pre-party' sets. The atmosphere of the sunset Cafe's summertime events is beautifully captured, with Mat Playford and Tomas Malo's 'Alfredo' setting the downtempo daytime scene, and Tensnake's 'Can You Feel It' pumping and drumming its way to the pre-party bounce Cafe Mambo is now famous for.
It is refreshing to see that creative, exciting mixing is now taking centre stage with commercial releases. Creativity is key to the survival of the mix compilation format and if mixes like Wolfenden's are recognised for their merits, there may be many years of quality releases ahead.
