Possibly the best album The Edge has played on
In these days when, despite the quality of their latest album, U2 are too often guilty of the most appalling bombast, it is good to see this gem on iTunes! Released in 1986, just before the Joshua Tree became all too ubiquitous, comes Captive; a haunting soundtrack to an appalling film! Really, the film IS dire, but the moods Evans evokes here are superb. This is also the first airing of the Infinite Guitar sound developed by collaborator Michael Brook, that would raise its head on With or Without You. It's used far more tastefully here. Highlights are the gorgeous opening track, Hiro's Theme and The Dream Theme. If you want music from a time when U2 were intellectually challenging, this is it. It can even be forgiven for having the then unknown Sinead O'Connor on it!
