Album Review

Change Giver, the debut album from Britain's Shed Seven, mixes energetic, guitar-driven pop tunes with singer Rick Witter's crooning vocal delivery. The band follows in the tradition of other '90s Brit-pop bands, such as the Bluetones and Oasis, but doesn't pull it off as well. Although the songs are catchy and well-executed, there's nothing especially creative or innovative about the album. There isn't much style variety among the songs; they basically all sound similar. However, it's an enjoyable pop album overall. "Speakeasy" is a great track with its dramatic riffs and catchy chorus ("don't break the habit of a lifetime/you broke the habit of a lifetime/I see through everything you do"). "Ocean Pie" is a slight departure from the rest of the album with its semi-bluesy guitar feel. Change Giver may not be the most prolific Brit-pop album, but it has its moments.

A FORGOTTEN GEM?

Sat here listening toCHANGE GIVER, i can't help feeling how big Shed Seven should have become.Released 11 years ago, this album still feels fresh, and should have been received with far more enthusiasm. If you have enjoyed later work by this band, and thought of buying this c.d, i cant recommend it highly enough. Definitely a forgotten gem.

Buy the singles for the B-sides

If you like this album, go out and get the singles Speakeasy, Dolphin and Ocean Pie. The B-Sides on these singles are better than the album tracks. One of the most under rated bands ever.

Bloomin Fantastic !!

Dug out the old CD's after noticing the Sheds touring Nov/Dec. There really isn't one bad song on this first CD and the Sheds Live is certainly not to be missed. Saw them 96/97 at Sheffield Octagon and now going to Leeds Met in Dec - bet they're as good now as then. Try this out - you'll defo not be disappointed if you like they're more recent stuff. Sing out loud in the car songs to cheer you up. Dolphin is fab as is Speakeasy but then I could go on about them all so I wont. Seriously though GREAT album.
