Album Review

From the demure photos gracing the artwork (the tight shorts of Rainbow are long gone) and the first single/opening track "Through the Rain," a slow ballad designed as "Vision of Love" meets "Hero," it's evident that Mariah is back in the adult contemporary camp. She hasn't completely abandoned hip-hop — Jay-Z and Freeway guest on "You Got Me," there's a the club-ready groove for "You Had Your Chance" (built on the same bassline as "Nuthin' But a G Thang"), and a take-off of Cam'ron's "Oh Boy" on "Boy (I Need You)" (which he endorses with a cameo); there's the crackling vinyl used as ambient noise on "Irresistible," and the use of dripping water as percussion on "I Only Wanted." She also covers Def Leppard's power ballad classic "Bringin' on the Heartbreak." [The CD was also released with a bonus disc.]

Charming the lambs!

Well, with the success of Mimi, placing Mariah back on her throne, perhaps Charmbracelet wont be disregarded as a 'poor whispery attempt' with new label Island Def Jam. Through the Rain may not be an amazingingly strong album opener, but the message is clear, and is self assuring to the feeling down-hearted. The album does have a self certification theme, with Clown aiming heavily at a certain rapper whom tried to taint Careys name, and with the soft music and strong(est voice on the whole album) makes the message clear! Boy, with Cam'ron, is sexy, and shows the lady can collaborate and not just feature like Glitter seemed to show! Best tracks include the one, and you got me, and over all, a sweet attempt after her issues! Well done, and well worth it!!!

amazing

through the rain is an amazing open to an incredible album. An icon of our time, her voice is flawless, and the album is great to listen to. I would recommend it to anyone. There is something for everyones taste in this album.

Not at her best!

I luv mariah but when i listened to 'charmbracelet' though, i was captivated at first with 'through the rain' & 'boy (i need you)', but as the album went on, i found them quite repetitive and not as good as her previous songs in the 90's. this could be 'cause she's no longer wit Columbia records! Nevertheless, give the album a try, as it has a certain 'charm'!

The best-selling female performer of the 1990s, Mariah Carey rose to superstardom on the strength of her stunning five-octave voice. An elastic talent who moved easily from glossy ballads to hip-hop-inspired dance-pop, she earned frequent comparison to rivals Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, but did them both one better by composing all of her own material. Born in Long Island, NY, on March 27, 1970, Carey moved to New York City at the age of 17 — just one day after graduating high school —...
