No salt, sweat. Plenty of sugar.

OK, so I'm still fairly new to this album - and I'm still absorbing it, but my early opinion is that this is not going to be the JEW classic I hoped it would. Why? Far too many upbeat, sugar-coated pop songs and not enough heartfelt classics. Nothing on here is touching the beauty of 'A Sunday',' Table for Glasses', '23', 'My Sundown', 'Disintegration', 'Here You Me' etc.etc ... Any real JEW fan should know these darker/downtempo songs and treasure them. On top of that critisism, JEW have taken their studio production to an almost embarrassing level. Some songs almost make me cringe with 'HEY!HEY!' type chants and ultra-pop backing vocals. As a testomy to just how radio friendly this album is, just about *everyone* in my office would actually it - it's that accessable. There's little to challenge here. Long gone are the days of 'Goodbye Sky Habour' and instead, 'Hello' to ten or so power-pop songs that you feel you know at the end of the first play - a very dangerous sign of any longevity in the album. When JEW do pop, however, they do it brilliantly and some of tunes on here will make you feel-*really*-good and make you want to dance on tables - but how I wish I could remove 4 or 5 of them from the album... (how did 'Here it Goes' make it on the final cut? It sounds like a Wham! record in places) ... and replace them will some darker/downbeat moments. The post-'Futures' EP 'Stay on my Side Tonight' promised so much more. JEW used to make my want to cry or drive at 100mph shouting 'rock on!' ... huge chunks of this album just make me want to tap my foot under my desk and smile pleasantly. Come on boys... next time, a little less sugar, a little more salt/sweat.

Its not the Same Jew but its good

I first Discovered Futures. This made me feel Jew's music and i could send each song to people and say thats how i felt about them. Its theme was drugs and love. Bleed American was a beautiful album that took us through the highs and lows of life. Clarity was again fantastic as the band began to find thier feet. Static Prevails was good for thier first album and it showed thier potential. Stay on my side tonight was absolutly amazing. it promised alot for the new album. In a way i am slightly disappointed that im not feeling that sad and depressed feeling everytime i listen to this album. But this album makes me feel happy. I do love 'Big Casino' its similar to Salt Sweat Sugar' Carry You is good as well as Chase This light' 'Firefight' and Distraction' I'll be honest with you, at first you think why did jew take this direction. But the vocals are growing on me alot. The poppy kind of sound is really good, and although its not making me feel like '23' or 'work' would make me its still fantastic. Just play the album over and over again and you'll love it. P.S. Anyone who loves Jew Will absolutly love Death Cab for Cutie. I was skeptical to spend money. But if you like to depressing sad type check them out.

We all know Clarity is an awesome album, but...

To people saying this album is too poppy, I have to say the attraction of Jimmy to me has always been their ability to write perfect pop songs, and none more so than on Clarity and Chase This Light. I don't think there's any shame in that! That said, if you want the lush, textured guitars and samples of 'Goodbye Sky Harbor', you won't find that here. In reality, I don't think they could get away with releasing another Clarity if they wanted to survive in this Fall Out Boy infested world... What this album brings (mostly) are straight up, feel good, pop songs. My highlights are 'Electable' and 'Chase This Light'. But as well as this, songs like 'Dizzy' and 'Gotta Be Somebody's Blues' seem like the natural progressions from '23' and 'Disintegration' respectively. 'Be Sensible' also harks back to the Clarity era in some ways. So to people who have dismissed this as 'too pop'...take another listen. (Don't forget to catch these guys on tour....wow.)

Biography

Formed: 1994 in Mesa, AZ

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Once a trailblazing name in the mid-'90s emocore scene, Jimmy Eat World eventually found a larger audience by embracing a blend of alternative rock and power pop that targeted the heart as well as the head. The band's influence widened considerably with 1999's Clarity — an album that has since emerged as a landmark of the emo genre — it was the band's follow-up (specifically the infectious single "The Middle") that crowned them as major figures in commercial rock. The emo label proved...
