Album Review

Cinderella’s Eyes is the debut solo release from Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts. Written alongside Diplo, Joe Mount from Metronomy, and Dragonette, the album was penned over a period of 12 months and allowed Roberts to refine her sound, illustrated on electro-pop single “Beat of My Drum.” Roberts opens up throughout with personal lyrics influenced by rap music and the trials of being one fifth of the U.K.’s biggest girl band.

She's from Girls Aloud? WOW!

To say this surpasses all previous solo efforts by former Girls Aloud members, is such an understatement, it's insulting!

Forgetting Nicola's former tag-line of 'the moody ginger one on the end', and judging this album as a new artists debut is a lot more realistic, and it's the best debut i've heard in a long time. Deep personal lyrics bounce through this collection of electropop 'classics in the making', turning what would be an interesting record, into one of real potential as a future credible artist.

There are absolutley zero fillers, but personal highlights would be the dramatic 'Porcelain Heart', euphoric 'Take a Bite', and the closing perfection of 'Sticks + Stones.' The lyrics of the last track in particular, demonstrate how desperate Nicola has clearly been to free the constraints of her band members, and hold full creative control over her music. The words are hard hitting, and storm out of your speakers with the power of an Adele track.

This album is getting critical acclaim and it's easy to see why. It would have been 4 stars, but considering this amazing new artsit was created from the same show as Cheryl Cole, that makes it an instant 5/5!
This album is the making of the next Robyn, and possibly better, i am already looking forward to future releases from Nicola.

Nicola's time to shine!

If you're a Girls Aloud fan, and have seen them at any one of their live concerts, then you will know how incredible Nicola's live vocals are, and how she rarely got to show off her beautiful vocal ability on the band's singles, however, now after almost 2 years since "taking a break" from Girls Aloud, Nicola is back.. and this time, she's flying solo!

Nicola has an incredible voice, which has grown stronger and stronger as she has grown in age, and become more mature vocally. The album shows this off fantastic, and instead of doing a "Girls Aloud" and singing lyrics about 'jumping on my too-too' or being a 'gift-wrapped kitty kat', she instead has written 11 out of the 12 tracks, and based all on past experiences since being in the public out at the eye of 16.

The album kicks off with the singles, "Lucky Day" and "Beat of my Drum", both of which have entered inside the top 10 over the last few months, and enjoyed huge critical acclaim from the press.

The album really does something for everyone! Whether you're wanting to have a dance whilst getting changed for a big night out, then you've got the tracks "Beat of my Drum", "Gladiator" or "Take A Bite". Or maybe you're wanting some tracks to relax too, then you've got "Fish Out of Water" or "Lucky Day".

Tracks that need a special mention must go to "Porcelain Heart" and "Sticks + Stones".
"Sticks + Stones" is breathtakingly beautiful, and is stunningly written by Nicola, where she talks about how she felt a victim to the press over the last few years, and how she was bullied by the press, and certain celebrities (Chris Moyles, Matt Willis) for being "ginger" and (apparently) ugly (clearly Nicola isn't ugly, and is beautiful!) "Porcelain Heart" is the track that gets to show off Nicola's vocals in an extraordinary way, with her hitting the high notes that I don't think even band members Nadine Coyle or Cheryl Cole could even hit! Incredible, and a great way for Nicola to stick the middle finger up to all those who said she couldn't sing!

"Cinderella's Eyes" is an amazing album, sung by one of Britain's most under-appreciated singers. The 12 tracks bring new light to the pop industry, and create a new and fresh sound which hasn't been heard of in the commercial charts for quite some years.

This is a must have album for any Nicola/Girls Aloud fan.. but also, it's a must have album for any individual who appreciates and loves fantastic British pop music!

Easily one of the best singers of girls aloud has released a unique and poptastic collection of hits! Love every single track! Congrats Nicola!
